  1. This looks like it was shot on film (maybe Bolex?) just by pumping the shutter button. As film cameras slow down, the shutter slows too, and the longer frame exposures cause a brightness ramp. That's why you see exposure ramp up at the end of film takes. It's just the motor coming to a stop. You can probably make your own version digitally, just by key-framing the exposure leading up to the cut.
  2. We used a digital to 16mm process for our film Operation Avalanche. It was done by Pablo Perez at Niagara Custom Lab, though he's not there anymore.
