  1. Go fu** Yourself..... Powerfull words used by alot of people under various circumstances. Now this Documentary will explore the use of this phrase currently and the place of the words in correct standing. What exactly does it mean to 'Go fu** Yourself" If you ask your self what it means. I would say self masterbation however you feel like doing it. Now that is not really that bad. Dr Ruth would might say masterbation is the Valium of the everyperson. A chance to use your imagination and visual skills in order to create the life process mechanism. Now we all know what it means to activate the life process mechanism. It means a few minutes of pure heart pounding extaSee. What I am looking for is a producer to help me out. Your best story about when you felt like saying Go fu** Yourself. Humour would be classic cinematic lines changed to: Like in "Gone with the Wind" Frankly my Dear You can go....... Looking for any stories or situations to perhaps use in this Documentary. I also think that today when you seriously look at the word...The same saying if said in the right tonality is just about the most wierdly funny retort to something that insults your objectives and motivations. Send your comments Please or................ This Film is meant to be taken seriously but at the same time find goodfun in revealing the words might just mean go masterbate yourself which in terms of things done, is not that bad. The Phrase GFYS must also be the original version of the oh so Popular...fu** U. Like in all languages things always shorten to their most usefull rendition.
  2. I just want to add that in FCP color correction you push the blacks to blue and the mids to red and then overexpose the highlights for that 50ties look.
  3. Look I am pale with directors telling us cinematographers what their uneducated eye dictates. Couldn"t we make our own film ? A film by us for them who regard for us as real talent. I want to do it. It will be like a chain letter. It could be many different things..... Anyone interested ?
  4. I would like to point out that Steven S. has become his own SS, in his own time. In essence he's the SS of film making. Hee Hee he ha hee he he ha ha HAHA he ha ! Abosulutely no disrespect ICI.
  5. I shot alot of super8 in the 60ties. In the 80ties I shot a couple of rolls to add to my videofootage. The super8's color ,depth of field, and luminous nature made the video footage look pridictable.
  6. I want to say what a great friendly and helpfull place this has been. I am emotionally overwhelmed.I will celebrate these helpfull responces tomorrow on my Birthday. Then I will be officially be an ole 49er.
  7. Hi Phil, the movie is called "Mimetoliths" And because I am a novice film editor it has taken me on an interesting voyage of knowledge.
  8. Hi Phil thanks for responding .Sorry I am currently slightly fragmented myself. What is that ? How does one do it ? Thanx ak
  9. Thanks for sharing this with us it looks great.
  10. Sorry about that. The original format is NTSC miniDV. Shot with a Panasonic 3CCD,Leica lensed camera. I have editted it with Final Cut Pro. I cannot cut a DVD internally so I output the film back to the camera. With the new master I then feed it to a DVD recorder. I then make DVD that are verified copies. From what I understand from the above teachings I could theoretically just transfer from my Master mini DV to digibeta ? The other thought that comes to mind is that my 58 minute movie has utilized all 99 visual tracks and the equivalent for the sounds of the sound track. The layering of the film happened over time . I think I am getting some ghosting occasionally and few other wavers.Could this or these just be problems with the program? Could I have maxed out my FCP program ? Are the remaining 35 gigs ample enough to drive this entire movie smoothly with out fall out ? The movie is about 350 gigs.
  11. This is great fun. Thanks for sharing the production info and that link David. Congrats too !!!
  12. Hi Mike, You know mini DV with 3CCD's and a Leica lens is about as good as it gets for smaller sized cameras. I believe the smaller the camera the more you can do with it. That means creative compositions because it is easier to move about. Now along come HD with more lines than one could shake a stick at. I just saw a prosumer one with Zeiss lens. It was formidable. I think it takes alot more memory to cut HD than MD. The HD cameras are bigger but not so much so... I think I would go the way of MiniDV and wait for another few years for the real stuff to settle in.
  13. Thanks David and Tim, I believe us Cinematographers are having to deal with all these other areas of post production. Does anybody know about a site that shows movies driven by the cinematographer. Or Cinematographers that went on to make there own film with their own cuts ? Thanks for creativecow.com
  14. THANK YOU ! You have just made my day advanced ! My other producer was breathing down my neck saying I had to now spend a month making a shot list. That would ahve been the most unforgiving job. On a further note Just a straight transfer is what I am looking for.I don't need to mess wwith slowing it down to 24 frames per second or anything like that ?
  15. Veronica Voss by Fastbinder? Is truely a delight of Black and White. I find it somehow very refreshing seeing old movies in a latitude of Greys that give you something color doesn't understand.
  16. Hello from Montreal C, Sorry, the kicker sounds good. Is that a bigger splash of light wrapping around the subject from the dark side of the force ?
  17. Hello There DM, Yes I agree this too is very nice .Thanks for reminding me.
  18. Is rim lighting the subject the only method of separting the subject from the back ground? I guess that or move the camera away from the subject, zoom in and fill the frame with head and shoulders; and then perhaps background fall off occurs.
  19. One of the greatest reasons to use Black and white as far as I am concerned is that you can forget all about most color balance. You simply work with light and composition and this is truely relaxing. Color gets involved with so many other things. It can be as much of a distraction as it could be an attraction. Basically when shooting Black and white things can mocve right along from location to location with only an adjustment to the fstop.
  20. Just for the record. The way black and white film responds to the reality is that it is made to offer as much mid tones as possible. It reads light differently that color film does. Where color film is 3 layers of emulsion all deidicated to a certain area of the color spectrum, Color film will just not be gathering the same information as a true silver based B$W film would. With Black and white you can have everything in silky latitudes of the mysterious colors of grey ,black and white. The amazing thing about Black and White is that you have to be good Cinematically.Poor cinematography and the film will be almost unwatchable, Great cinematography and the film will sing with nostalgia and mood and temprement that modern color has little place for. Truely the mood of the piece will remain more vibrant in well composed images. Black and white offers little excuses for poorly composed images. Today internal coversion to Black and white is getting better. With sophistocated color correction tools in house with today editiing programs one can modulate the Faux black and white quite nicely.Still the image must be striking or well composed to have maximum effect.
  21. I have reentered the cinematic world only this time with DV.I think I would prefer working as open as possible because the DoF is too great. The only problem with the revolutionary Digital medium is that it's depth of field is just too great most of the time. It's great because you can just shoot and compose and never have to worry basically about the subject matter being in focus. You really have to work at making things look out of focus in the background. I think in the future we have a proxiemity pin that set focus to that spot regardless. Thus the actor can slowly change his distance to the camera with the shallow DoF being maintained gracefully with this set up. I hope it comes out soon or must I invent this too?
  22. Yes but films still shot in B&W look best regardless.
  23. I have cut my MiniDV final cut pro movie and now must go to digibeta format for festivals. Now my producer says I must recut the entire film in another system to get true good digibeta quality. I thought I could just output a full strength copy from the computer back out through the camera onto a tape and then just have that converted to digibeta. My producer says I will loose a couple of generations so she's asking me make a shot and tape list from 44 hours of footage in precise order to put into another system to get this wonderfull quality digibeta. Now my outputs done the same way and then copied onto DVD looks absolutely fabulous on the big screen TV'S. So whats the story ?
