  1. When I read "exposing for the shadows" in some cine article, I'm not completely sure what that means in practical terms. Can someone explain it and give an example of how they did it and why? Thanks!
  2. Can someone give some advice on the best way to gel, say an Arri 1K, with a 12x12" piece of color gel? I had used some straw on one that worked ok by placing it on the barn doors with the usual clothes hangers. This kept it away from the lens a few inches at least, depending on the door position. I placed a 3/4 CTB in the same way and it started melting/warping within 30 sec. These are Lee gels made for lights. What's the best way to do this? Do I need a heat sheild (clear gel placed behind the color)? Or am I using the wrong type of gel or what?
  3. Whoa guys, I'm talking about the "INDIE Dolly" system seen here: http://www.indiedolly.com/ It is rideable and has metal tracks. Sorry if the name also seemed to mean I was talking about some home-built junk. This is certainly a step up from a wheelchair and skateboard. This unit seems to be a nice alternative in some situations. I've come into the feature film world having to be highly mobile and lightweight. This is exactly the kind of thing I could have used before, especially for $1500 plus some extra track. I haven't seen the need, for the lower budget project anyway, to stay with the old Hollywood system of $40k+ dollys with a truck needing to carry it, with it's 100's of lbs./ of track. I realize the advantages there, sometimes. More commercial-grade versions of systems like this (Maybe their soon-to-come cousins?) look like the future to me.
  4. I posted this above but got to takers... Was wondering if anyone (Mr. Pytlak?) has experience working with film that has been stored for one or two years, etc.? We have a few rolls that have been stored and I'm really curious. I know testing is always a good idea, but is it worth it? Assume it was being stored frozen or at least refrigerated.
  5. Anyone used an INDIE dolly yet? Their newest model, that works on curved track, actually looks like a nice low budget and highly mobile system for $1500.
  6. Was wondering if anyone (Mr. Kodak?) has experience working with film that has been stored for one or two years, etc.? We have a few rolls that have been stored and I'm really curious. I know testing is always a good idea, but is it worth it? Assume it was being stored frozen or at least refrigerated.
  7. 31yo director hoping to establish a working relationship with younger yet somewhat experienced film-trained cinematographer for first feature project in development, and hopefully more on the road to old age, of course! Just for now, I'm not into video though I've shot my share, I hate to say, so please don't bother contact if that's all of your reel. I have a real respect and love of the works like that of Kubrick, Malick, Scorsese and of DP's like Robert Richardson, John Toll, Néstor Almendros and John Alcott. See where I'm coming from? I'm outside of the school/alumni scene so it's tough to network sometimes. Polish FS, AFI, USC cine grads that aren't looking to start a million dollar career right off and aren't looking to shoot everything in LA, please shoot me an email here to the east coast! This may not be the usual route to do this sort of thing but giving it a try can't hurt. trailerparkva@lycos.com
