  1. Hi, So I'm definatley not buying a HD camera, for what I want to shoot DV is good enough. So now I'm just trying to decide between a DVX 100A and the XL2 (I've had a great experience in the past with the XL1 so I have a bit of a soft spot for the cannon) but I hear the DVX100A produces gorgeous images. Anyone got any gripes or greats about either of these from a hands on perspective? Thanks Jacqueline
  2. I love that you guys reccomended a film camera, as it happens, I have also been looking at second hand 16mm packages. I would love to own my 16mm film camera kit, a bit pricey,I have an old 8mm. Then again it's much harder to just go out on the weekend and shoot something. I'm gonna think about buying a cheaper Mini DV for some fun and experimentation and look at some film cams too. Anyone got any suggestions on cheaper Mini DV cams? Jacqueline
  3. Hi I'm thinking about investing in my own HD camera later this year, it's a bit confusing out there with so many cameras comming out. Does anyone have any suggestions about what cams I should look into that are good value for money. Also with all the HD stuff coming out recently, the prices of the Cannon XL2 here has plummeted and I can easliy afford to buy one later this year. Some people have told me not to invest in an HD cam as it would be more ecconomical to rent one when I need it. I want to shoot my own low budget projects & take time to experiment as well as use the cam to get some professional work. would like to hear your opinion on this. thanks Jac
  4. HI guys, I wanted to know if there are standard tests I should do with the film before I shoot?(over exposing / underexposing, I guess are the norm to get familiar with the films latitude, but what else should I be planning to do?) How much film I should allow for this and is the processing is usually included in the agreed Lab price? Thanks Jac...
  5. Thanks, budget is not too much of a problem right now as I'm teaching in Hong Kong and make good money, I'm just worried about investing in an more expensive or a new meter and after a week I decide I actually don't like the handling, or the way it works etc..( I hope this make sense) and it's a bit of a nightmare trying to find meters out here to get a feel for something, so I'd be pretty much investing blindly. I think the three main contenders Ive been looking at online have been the Spectra 4 A and the Sekonic 558 cine, and the 608? ( I think?) , I've heard the Spectra can give you a reading in really low light (f1), where as the Sekonic can't, is that because of the combined spot meter? My thinking is that I'll start with a cheaper second hand one and then as my needs progress I can keep that as my back up and invest in something newer. Also how often should I get it calibrated, and where do I get this done? Also I anyone knows where in Hong Kong I can go and look at lightmeters I would be grateful, I've searched the internet, but found nothing. thanks for all your help!
  6. Thanks, I have been eying the Spectra's seriously. Whats the difference between a Spectra 4 A and the SPECTRA PRO IV DIGITAL LIGHT METER , I recently seen the latter for sale and don't know if its the same etc...? Any idea about this?? Cheers
  7. Hi there guys, Not a first time film-maker, but first time Cinematographer looking for a well priced second hand light meter that will take me through my first few years of experimentation and learning. Can anyone give me any advice on what I should go for, I know many DP's have their preferences. Also, is it worth investing in a spot meter at this stage or even a comined meter? Thanks, great to be here!
