  1. Damn, was it that easy? i saw it for the first time yesterday, after probably seeing the shot a thousand times! needless to say, it was left in the frame with a reason, of course! ...to distract industry insiders from the iris pull :) Thanks a lot for kind words, everybody loves those, and i am no exception. And, ahem... that was an anti-fur commercial. .. of course.
  2. Hi everyone. The second and newest version of my showreel is to be found here: www.alex.haspel.at formats used range from dv to 35mm.. budgets from non-existant to hardly existant. Any comments would be highly welcomed, especially as i am not trusting my editing abilities too much... and to keep everybody looking, a little challenge: who can spot the (i think it is a desisti) HMI ballast? :) the winner gets my collection of bounced cheques... All the best from Austria, Alex
  3. servas, as i already told you in person, lots of great stuff in there! i hope this will finally be my big acting-breaktrough!
  4. what about grads? i did'nt notice anything, the music got me so hooked!!!
  5. servas markus! what's going to be underneath the lamp? public gehsteig or a hinterhof that can be locked down?
  6. i just tried and they worked.. maybe there was a temporary problem with the server. did you see the second post? i gave the wrong link for the .wmv file in the first one but could not edit anymore when i noticed.... still looking forward to feedback, all the best, alex
  7. stupid expired edit thing... can't change my post anymore. so, the url for the wmv version was wrong, it is http://www.alex.haspel.at/PELZFinalwmv.wmv
  8. ..because it was a Fur commercial. But hey, if i hadn't done it someone elso would have. I came on board 4 days prior before shooting and it had minimum budget. The crew was very tiny too, it consisted of the director, one AC, one gaffer, one grip trainee, and myself also operating (which i really enjoyed as i haven't done it for a long time, since i had mainly gaffing jobs the past months) We could not even afford a proper studio and we ended up shooting in somekind of huge recording room. it surely was properly soundproof and had good acoustics, but offered no posibilty for any rigging, was in the first floor with no elevator. plus we shot MOS, therefor killing the only advantage of the location. :) this also was my first time dealing with clients on set, and i endend up throwing paprika at walls in anger. but that was justified, i assure you. anyways, here's the clip in wmv: http://www.alex.haspel.at/PELZFinal.wmv in mpg: http://www.alex.haspel.at/PELZFinal.mpg some of the shots are terribly shortened here, i'll try to get some raw material up asap ..! and here are some setphotos (NOT shot by me): http://picasaweb.google.com/a.nostitz/Werb...Rschnermeister# thanks in advance for your feedback!
  9. around here they consist of 6x 800w tungsten bulbs, similar to those in redheads. but to be honest, i wouldn't bother to build one as they really not very expensive to rent, and not really an everyshootingday item...
  10. they always seem die before unpaid idealist art project stuff, where nothing is being paid :) no, everything fine here. altough mine does have the problem of not looking as funky as yours..
  11. this is the only lightmeter i ever had, and i can only highly recomend it. what i like about it is it's simplicity, in contrary to those flashy ones with way too many things to be set wrong unnoticed. it also seems to be very rugged, i think mine dates back to the early 90s and still is in perfect working condition. the only downside is the batteries, they are rather expensive.
  12. Hi Daniel, yes most of the stuff was shot on my little rollei, the tatra stuff tuff shot on a mamyia 645s and the concerts on my beat up 80's minolta XG-m congratulations on your rollei, great little things, aren't they? and so small, sadly i can't find mine anymore..
  13. i think i havent got any setphotos up there, BUT it is analog. :) many many hours of scanning negatives, as someone else stated before.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/haspel/ and then there is my other acount, which i use for quick crappy cellphone shots. some setphotos there... http://www.flickr.com/photos/haspels_handyspass any commets are of course welcome
  14. hey, dont diss the 89 volvo station wagon, i drive one too and it is one of the very bestest cars on earth! why would you want one of these tupperwarecars anyways?
  15. if the cinema has digital projection you might get a second beamer (something mid-ranged should be enough for hdv) and use the same feed for it. then use it to light your subjects with it, trough some diffusion. an emergy exit light might justify a stable, not flickering kicker if it gets to funky for your tastes... those are just some ideas, do whatever you find fitting....
  16. oh yes, if i had access to a gun while driving i would already be in prison for a long time. by not having access to firearms, thanks to living in europe, i just swear like a trooper and might only die of a premature heart attack. which i think is better.
  17. if i am right, that thing has got over a million kilometers on the clock, now thats great. any serious problems of technical nature?

he certainly does not seem to lack confidence.
  19. arrrr, cant edit the above post anymore, kinda annoying. i might add that luckily, austrian law makes it possible to drive up to 3 cars with one license plate, one at a time of course, while only paying taxes and insurance for the strongest/most expensive one. oh, and i forgot those two: another volvo 740 for spare parts and a 1983 golf series one, maybe for future restauration, time will tell....
  20. ha, finally! that is my kind of topic! 1958 LLOYD Alexander 600TS 600cm, 24 roaring horsepower, and suicide doors! 1978 VW LT 30years, 30.000km! ..was on duty until 2005 also quite the racecar, 2liter petrol engine with massive 75hp for up to 3,5tons. is about to become a mobile home, while leaving the outside as original as possible. (crappy photos from the seller) 1989 Volvo 740 Estate 2,3liter Petrol engine, 116hp, 301.000km! my regular one, unkillable, still needs no oil whatsover, still going strong! built like a tank, a truly great car. needles to say i really hate hate hate modern cars with a passion. i want to drive a car that makes it possible to unterstand how it works, and makes it possible repair stuff yourself. tupperware cars with computers built in are really not for me. besides, i sadly have to say that there is not one modern car whos appearance i enjoy.
  21. one of my first topics posted here was about a little student short i shot 2 years ago (damn, 2 years!) on 16mm using practical lightning only. heres the link the board doesnt seem to be showing the last few stills, but it works if you copy and paste the url minus the - tags... feel free to ask questions...
  22. hi Matt, as David already said, i was gaffing the second video. people here are spot on with their estimations, yes, we used 2 dinos, which (at least around here) consist of 30 par64 globes each. and if i remember correctly, it was cp62 ones. fast strobing was not required, we had them on dimmerpacks. but the way we had to do it has been seen a million times, you better hold onto kevins video ;) best of luck, alex
