  1. Simon, thank you for the insight on the positioning the claws with the shutter in detail, very helpful and will keep it in mind when And Dom, thanks you as well. I will do the squiggle test and double check by hand-cranking for even the slightest of movement, fingers crossed! I did not remove the front of the camera at all, as I've realised it would probably be messy putting everything back together, especially the light seal. I did however shift the claw gear around, so I will have to re-time the auto-threading. If you have any insight on that and are willing to share, that would be greatly appreciated. The repair manual also has some good insight into this, so will study it carefully. I'm assuming if the auto-threading was way off, it would be noticeable by observing the film loop? Thank you both for the valuable insight!
  2. Hello all! A few weeks ago, I put my first test roll through my new Bolex EBM camera. Unfortunately, it turned out the shutter and claw system were completely out of sync. I took it upon myself to do the repair as I couldn't not afford to send it for a general overhaul and fix abroad. I've spent many weeks going through the repair manual and reading plenty of helpful posts on this forum, to understand how the system operates before I even try to disassemble it. I got the right tools and after some time, I think I've managed to perfect it. Here are links to some slow mo footage of film passing through the system: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1zNsxUi_lp0 (the first second when the film is passing through the gate, you can see the film move as the shutter is open, but that's only as the film is not yet engaged with the sprockets and claws, once it engages, it seems to properly stabilise). https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jiuQj3iaar8 I was wondering does this now seem to be properly in sync? Obviously I'll have to have another test roll shot and developed before any conclusions but I was wondering what's your opinion just by looking at the footage above. Many Thanks!
  3. I haven't tested that one, however from the looks of it, with the right cable, it should be fine! It even has a 12V output, you probably don't even need a plate. I got the plate so I can use various other batteries as well, just makes it easier. I've tested my setup with a FXLION Nano Two and a Core SWX NANO Micro 98Wh battery, both worked without issues.
  4. Actually, the main screw that holds the plate is slightly to the left! I've made the hole a bit bigger and bolted it from the inside to out. The screw you're referring to is actually just holding it in place for extra support. I've removed the small bulbs that were there and found a screw that fits just barely so it holds the plate a bit firmer. It's not actually fully bolted in (if that makes sense). So far it does the job!
  5. Hi all, I wanted to share what I've done with my Bolex EBM regarding the battery and maybe help any other people out there. I've done a lot of searching online, but I realised I would love to power it from a V lock type battery, for ease of use. I purchased a SmallRig battery plate (SmallRig Battery Adapter Plate 3204). I went for this one as it wasn't too expensive and after sending them an email, confirmed that the outputs on the plate are regulated (as the Bolex EBM requires 12V). Another benefit of this plate is that it has a power button, meaning the you don't need to get a cable with a switch to power on/off the camera. The button makes it much cleaner too. The plate was screwed on the back of the camera. This required a bit of modding and making the existing holes on the back of the camera a bit bigger (took me 3 minutes to do this). I made a custom cable, using a simple 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC barrel plug, and a Amphenol Tuchel connector (T 3475 005). Pin 3 is +12V and pin 4 is ground. This connector is really well made and fits perfectly with the camera, worth it in my opinion. Once the cable was made, I simply plugged it into the 12V output on the plate, and the camera works perfectly. Currently I'm planning on adding a small monitor and a small video assist as well, which will both be powered from the 12V outputs on the battery itself with a Dtap cable. The only drawback with this method is that you in reality need to use a video tap, as the viewfinder is blocked by the battery/plate. With a smaller plate and battery, it could have probably been avoided. So far I'm quite happy with this setup!
  6. Hi Dom! Thanks a lot for the quick and detailed reply, it is very helpful. Unfortunately, it seems it's the latter problem that you mentioned. The lower loop is fine whilst the loop former is engaged, but as soon as the loop former is released, the top loop pulls up and the bottom one is automatically shorter. When I adjust the film by hand, as soon as I run the camera, the bottom loop becomes shorter. I'm assuming it's best if a Bolex technician has a look? Any other advice or info is highly appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Hi all, I've recently acquired a new Bolex EBM in really good condition and decided to take the challenge of modifying it myself (battery, video assist etc). I'm glad the camera works and the motor is still running however, I've ran a few rolls of dummy film through it, and on all of them, the bottom loop is really short. Is this normal, or is it something I could potentially fix? I've attached an image but this is not from my camera, but is the exact same problem. The camera would in general probably need an overhaul, but trying to get at least one proper roll of film through it to see the results. hence why I want to address this issue as well. Any help is highly appreciated!
  8. Hi all, it was helpful to me so I thought I would share, here is a repair manual for the Bolex EBM. Might come in handy to someone someday! https://pdfhost.io/v/IJuNtjAap_BolexH16EBMService Marko
  9. Dom, your knowledge never fails to impress me! I really do appreciate all the info. As much as I would like to test it out, it seems I don't have the means to do so at the moment. I wish I have seen some prices this type of lens went for, however as I said, I couldn't find absolutely anything about it, including ebay auctions. The lens it self is not in the best of condition I'm afraid, so even if I do end up selling it, I doubt it will go for much. But I will let you know if I do so. Once again, I really appreciate the help!
  10. Hi everyone. I managed to acquire an old Arriflex 16 camera with a full 3 lens set for the turret. However the package also included this lens and I cannot seem to find any information about it online. It looks like there are many different versions of the lens with the same name but none of them look remotely similar to the one I got. On the inside, the markings are as following: Fulgior Kinoptik Paris f:1.3 Focale 50mm No. 21871. If you know anything about this lens, please do let me know. Regards, Marko
  11. Hi everyone! In a few weeks, I'll be shooting Kodak Double-X 7222 16mm film using the Arriflex 16SB and Cooke Kinetal 12.5, 17.5 and the 25mm lenses. The film will be developed at Cinelab London and scanned with a Spirit 4K (the Scanity is supposedly under maintenance). It will be the first time using this film stock and camera so tests will be done before the shoot however I was wondering could you tell me what to expect in terms of image quality, graininess etc. The shoot will happen in a metro meaning relatively low light conditions. Also, any tips on properly (over)exposing the film would be greatly appreciated. Tips, recommendations or potential alternatives are all welcome. Thank you!
