  1. Yes, as Phillip gave me thought , one PL prime lens would cost as much as three standard mounts. I'll stick to the the lens turret. Thanks to all who replied. Cheers!
  2. As long as the knurled pin snaps tight and locks up to where the mag doesn't have any play, it should be light tight. Tape it if you are unsure. Film is expensive. Don't take any risks.
  3. Anyone know where I can get 35mm dummy film in can for practice loading? Ebay has nothing but old movies with no can.
  4. Is it possible to use PL lenses on an Arriflex std mount camera with an adapter? I have heard there are spacing issues. I like the rotating 3 lens config on arriflex 2c and don't want to convert to a hard front. Most good lenses are PL and there are minimal choices for std lens mount configuration.
  5. Folks, I am a still photographer getting into cinema and have a question about my Arriflex sr2 viewfinder. My camera is std 16. When, I am composing a shot, do I use the rounded inside frame or the outside 4 square corner broken frame? My screen says TV but I don't know if that is the outside our inside markings. Can you shed some light? Thanks.
  6. Wonder why the light meter would have been removed. Personally, I dislike built in meters. I would rather use my Sekonic cine meter but it would seem better to have built in so I could adjust without removing my eye from eyepiece. I am pretty sure it is standard 16 but I will send pic of gate anyway. Thanks for your response.
  7. There are a few on Ebay. I just bought an SR2 which was owned by Loyola Marymount Film school. Since there were no batteries available, they couldn't test it. As Tyler stated, it may be in for a rebuild but they are very interesting cameras to own. I like these machines far better than digital just for the nostalgia and experience. I hear Kubrick and Spielberg have both put their eyes up to SR 2's along with the BL35's they directed their DP's with. Can't say that about BlackMagic or Red which was what I almost purchased. I got my SR2 more for sentimental reasons. Never know, these cameras may have shot a Hollywood blockbuster if there were ever any shot in 16!! Good luck my friend!!
  8. Folks, I am new to cinematography and have just acquired an Arriflex 16mm SR2 from Fullerton Camera in Fullerton, Calif. I believe the camera was owned by Loyola Marymount as it has their markings for the film school on it. One thing I noticed is there is no where to set the ASA/DIN so i cannot choose the film speed. I can see a U shaped cover over what looks like where the ASA control is supposed to be located. There are two screws in this cover. I removed the screws thinking I would find the ASA/DIN control there but could not seem to remove the cover. Another thing that is different is the mode selector which resembles a popsicle stick is missing. All I have is a slider switch that says Off and On with a red button. There is also a red test button above that one. The popsicle stick seems to have a slot for it but the stick is not there. My guess is either this camera has been modified or it is so basic, it does not have these settings. I also need to find out of the camera has Arri standard mount or bayonet mount. I dont have pictures of the mount but it is very smooth shiny chrome with two notches on either side. Mount is not as important as the two things that seem to be missing. I have attached a picture of the side of my camera. Please let me know what you think. I am a still large format (4x5) photographer moving over to cinema and need some assistance. Thanks you so kindly!! Dan Cross
