  1. I had a lens recoated by Ultra-Flat they charge roughly 150 per inch in diameter and 150 to remove and reseat the lens. Good Luck, Jason.
  2. I had a long witty post that I accidenttaly deleted so here is the truncated version. Lens fungus can be removed with salt and alcohol swirl lightly until desired clarity is acheived. Take Care, Jason.
  3. The lens hits the ir filter before it achieves the depth to focus properly.
  4. Oh yeah, reply to jasonvarner@sbcglobal.net Thanks Again
  5. I was watching some home movie footage a couple of months ago, on a video projector, that I thought was super 8. Turns out it was shot with a 4-5mp camera 320X240 @15fps. An individual frame of super 8 by itself looks crisp and sharp but at 18 fps between the plate on the camera and the gate on the projector the image can look quite soft because of varying registration. To acheive an aproximation of the same exposure you probably want to slow your shutter down as much as you can get away with, 1/30 or 1/60. If you're in bright sunlight or even outside during the day you should probably consider using an nd filter, so you can shoot at the same stop you shot in super 8 and maintain the depth of field. Take Care, Jason.
  6. Hey Hey, if possible when you transfer to digibeta use a DVCAM deck with an SDI out that way you can transfer to digibeta and preserve the most data. If you use analog connections you're essentially converting the signal twice and you're going to lose information. As far as ghosting, was it only your movie or all of them? Ghosting is usually a byproduct of lo-res cabling or amplification of long runs of signal cable to the projector. Good Luck, Jason.
  7. I have a couple lenses that I purchased for use with my xl2 via pl adapter and neither works with it. The Angenieux 5.9 t2 was recoated by Ultra Flat a couple months ago, and machined to clear the mirror shutter on an Arri SR in standard mount, there is some flaking on the barrel but otherwise this lens is in excellent condition. The Zeiss 10-100 t3, bayonet mount, is in pristine condition there are no scrapes, flakes, cleaning marks, or anything it looks fresh out of the box. I'm looking to trade for Arri fresnels, an Eclair 1.5 or 2, camera support, dv decks, lenses, mics, maybe a beaulieu 6-9008. I estimate the lenses to be worth about 1000 bucks each and I am open to any comparable trade. Take Care, Jason.
  8. I bought the XL2 because of native 16:9 chips and for the fact that I already own the 3x and 14x lenses. As a DP I'm always looking for creative solutions to acheive different looks. There are lenses out there that work but there are few if any resources that list any kind of compatibility. A 10-100 lens on a 1/3" chip would actually translate into about a 2.6x reduction in field of view when compared to the 16mm frame which is what the lenses were originally meant for.I know what the limitations of using cine lenses on 1/3" ccd's and thats an acceptible trade. I can shoot on hour mags, change reels in 30 seconds, and see instant dailies. Professionals know that compromise is part of the game.
  9. Yeah I've looked at all these before. The P+S is ridiculously expensive. The Redrock device is cheaper but I dont see how image quality can be preserved using twice as many elements, and in most cases inferior glass. The PL is a straight mechanical adapter which preserves the characteristics of the cine lens without adding gg, wax, relay lenses, etc., The only problem is that it doesn't fit, so my question remains, has anyone ever used one of these with success? If so what combo of camera and lenses did it work with? P.S. Thanks for the bonk tip.
  10. Has anyone used a PL mount adapter on an XL2. I have 2 lenses, an angeniex 5.9, and a zeiss 10-100 t3 both in arri mount. I cant seem to get the rear element close enough to the ccd's without bonking the rear element against the ir filter. Is the filter deeper in the XL1? Anyone had any success with these?
