Spoke to Les Bosher the other day about converting a Bolex to S16. He said he could do it for £900 if that's of any interest?

Been working on this for a while and had to come up with a different solution to the worm gear problems I encountered. The new design is based on a direct drive motor. The couplings have been designed and a new motor manufactured. This is the test from this morning for anyone that is interested: The new case will be designed and manufactured in a few weeks and the first batch of varispeed motors will be ready soon. Quick note about the 12-27v up converter, it's rated at 20A so plenty enough to power the motor. It runs 30fps without a mag but only 16fps with a full load or 35mm (400'). The trouble with old motors is that sometimes the windings disintegrate over time and this motor is over 50 years old. I have a friend who has a fully working one that has the same up converter as the one in this photo (sticking up behind the motor and about the same size):

Hello everyone, Selling a really nice Cameflex 16/35 Standard that comes with one of my new motors. 24Vdc. 24fps. Really bright viewfinder and mechanically ready to shoot. It's not a CM3 as it doesn't have the CM3 logo above the plate that says Cameflex Standard. If you can send a photo of the gate plate I'll be able to tell you if it's switchable 2perf/4perf. Cheers

Does your magazine look like this or does it have two holes at the top?

That Looks like a guide that slots in on the left hand side. I have one that doesn't have the piece you have in your hand.

What happens when you try running the magazine without any film? Does the take up bobbin move? What happens when you inch it through manually.? If it was the bottom sprockets that you point out then the top sprockets would do the same thing and tear the other side? Are the claws springing in and out? Cheers Marek

This is a message for Boris. I don't think I have a copy of your Cameflex manual. Would it be possible to get a PDF? I'm always interested in Cameflex parts. Original screw particularly. I also have a bunch of parts if you ever need anything specific. I started reformatting the BBC Cameflex Technical document in order to add new photos etc. I'll give that a go over the next few months and send links to the finished document. I have one question. Your manual says use a special depth gauge after reassembly. How would you suggest adjusting the distance other than rotating the brass lens adapters. Is this even possible with Nikon adapter conversion? Sorry about all the questions. Cheers Marek

Dear Joao, Send me a personal message (PM) and I can send you a zoom link and I can show you what I think with one of my cameras on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. I was thinking of doing a breakdown video where I take one to bits in real time and post it on Youtube. I can also send you a copy of the breakdown PDF I made a while back. Camelex cameras are super simple and I use sewing machine oil. It works very well. I'll email Les Bosher and see what he uses. I'll email you the pdf as well. Cheers Marek

I think it may be something to do with the claw not springing back on its upward trajectory. If the claw doesn't spring back then it will try to move the film stock in the wrong direction Try pressing the claw in with your finger and see if it's stiff. If it is stiff, keep pushing it in and pulling it out until it becomes less stiff. I have to find one of my 16mm gates and see what's going on and see if I can replicate your problem. Can't do it until the weekend. I'll be in touch then. Cheers

Here's a rubbish video I just made. Shows it working etc. Didn't have a tripod so hand held with a hand held Cameflex.

I have a body minus a few bits that I was going to sell to someone in the US for £300. The main mechanism works perfectly so all you would need to do is take the back plate off the body, add the parts that are missing from your one and you'll be good to go. I'll make a video and upload it to Youtube later on today and you'll be able to see what I mean. If it takes your fancy I can get it to you in a couple of days. Cheers Marek
