  1. Budget is restrictive but exists. Numbers won' be useful, as this will be shot in Israel. I think I can get a decent post crew for this.
  2. I'm about to shoot a short (10min.) which takes place, almost exclusively, on a bus in motion through an urban area. I'm considering bringing the bus into a studio and having all the exteriors added later via green screen. We will not have the means to block streets, tow a bus, or rig light from outside - and so this seems a good idea. Any ideas on how to make this look good or otherwise good arguments for going outside are welcome. P.S. bus sequence in 'The Interpreter' is good reference for doing it this way. Obviously o lesser budget and skill :) Thanks a lot, Daniel
  3. Oron, Just an idea, but I keep thinking about the background. Will changing the apreture be enough to make the effect? will it be smooth enough? what about the way the light hits the hills in the background? What if you do this in time lapse? really utilizing the sunset and sunrise. I don't know what lens and aspect ratio you're planning on shooting at , but the Judean desert is such an amazing place, with incredible sunsets/sunrises, why not let it show for what it is? As I said, just an idea... not necesserily very realistic. Anyway, good luck and let us know how it came out. P.S. assuming you don't have the money to do tests, I would consider at least testing with stills (be it 35mm or digital) and smaller units, to see if this is what you're looking for.
  4. Thank you all for your help. Obviously - opening the manual (to p.31), is all we had to do. It is possible to calibrate incident and spot seperately, which is what solves the problem. In the 608 it involves turning on the meter while holding down both ISO buttons (this is for calibration, not adj.). this option does not seem to exist in the 508, btw. Thanks again.
  5. Has anyone had problems with the 608? A friend recently purchased a Sekonic 608. When testing it with a grey card he was concerned by the readings he was getting and so, this afternoon, we compared it to my 508. In incident light measurements they read exactly the same, but when measuring with the spot meter there is a 0.4 difference consistently, regardless of the object. We tested using a grey card (18%) and various other objects lit differently. We always got the same reading incident and always 0.4 more light on the spot reading from the 608. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? Has anyone encountered this before? Thanks, Daniel &Uri
  6. Thanks, Unfortunately the euipment is coming from a school that does not posses such a ground glass - thus requiring some other creative solution. D
  7. I'm using an SRII, shooting normal 16mm, but want to finish with 16:9. There are no widescreen markings on the ground glass of the camera I'll be using. Any useful suggestions for framing w/o chopping heads in the final crop? Thanks, Daniel
  8. Looking for some ideas regarding lighting this setup - Night time. Beach. No lights but what I bring. Dance party (from hell - as the dir. calls it). About 75-100 people on a 30ft strip between cliff and water. Surrounded by torches. 2 main characters walk through the party. Then some fighting in the middle. Bar at one end, DJ at another. Shooting 7218. Have been thinking about 3 bars with 6 par cans on each at three corners. Bar lit with flourescents. Some light spill from bar and DJ. Pars on cliff as well, combined with elements of fire. Mercury spot light to hit water through breakwave and small setup of 6*6 griff with red head for static fill and tungsten sun gun in movement. Would love to hear some suggestions and ideas. Thanks, Daniel Kedem
