  2. My first AC or me usually changing the ground glass with the appropriate glow mask for it.It is different for different ground glasses. Dimitrios Koukas
  3. Greg, I am posting one page here for you that maybe help me get away from ''the lions mouth''. ''Even the sun?'' I f u move one meter away form the sun u are one f/stop down? Dimitrios koukas
  4. Also the red light sometimes indicates a false pin in the current wich means that maybe u are giving power that has + to minus and opposite. Dimitrios
  5. The problem is when u have the knee full right, wich compresses the signal too much u have a problem with mid tones wich are the fleshtones. Most of the faces come up like u have throw mud on their faces and get a ''clay'' look. The Cameras were the Sony DXC 35D But don't worry anymore I have resign from it, all the people they gave me for a crew were too amature for me. As for the monitors there were brand new! (this is what they told me) problem was though that if you were trying to adjust the contrast from preset to manual u couldn't see any difference! Hehe- brand new with a curved screen like a chinese lantern? I am carying on now with my beloved Tv commercials mostly 35mm or HD and I have a feature film in sight for the next year. It is called ''House of Gods'' and it's a fiction -documentary Dimitrios Koukas
  6. ;) yep, and ofcourse I am jokin here ok? Dimitrios
  7. Unfortunately it doesn't. It would have been to easy... Dimitrios
  8. Mario it depends of what kind of lenses u are using, there are some high-speed primes that they don't have any problem using them wide open, or at least any visible to the human eye problems that aren't acceptable. Going with 2.8 or above it's not a bad decision, usually most lenses having the best resolution when at 4.0 to 8.0 Tstop. But that's a general rule and nothing that can dictate your shooting. Is it a 16mm film? 50mm is more tele for 16mm. Consider 25mm as your normal lens for 16mm and 50 mm normal for 35.(A general rule, I know that sometimes 45mm is considered normal for 35mm it depens of what is the screen's aspect ratio). 9. To be really honest of how went into this: my first feature film was an indie, so it didn't have big, huge stage lighting demands,I mean we could do it, but there was no budget. But when I did some adverts and feature later on, I was always reffering to my handbooks in times and especially Blain Browns one ''the filmakers pocket reference'' that has inside the output in FC of almost any lighting fixture till the day it published. So I didn't have to guess if I need a 6K cinepar or a 12k one. Usually I ask for a floor plan and put my lights on at my home office, (I guess most of us do the same). It just needs best schedule in everything. Have a gaffer that u trust with you is a great relief. Bigger set-up just need a lot of time, so ask for it. One thing you will need to be take care off is know what are the aesthetic demands and approaches, and do tests.Hairs, make-up or anything.Stay in close collaboration with the set designer and the director. I hope that I have been helpfull, Dimitrios Koukas
  10. Do u mean it was black when u loaded and white when u unloaded? Then we are talking for a newspaper printing machine here! Does it makes tea too?Or at least boils water? :P Dimitrios
  11. Nick, if you manage to rent the lighting strikes, u will not need so much light inside, while the light from the lighting strike fixtures will cover a lot of your set. I will suggest if you don't finally manage to do this, just gel 5k or 10k tungsten fixtures with double C.T.B. and use a lighting desk to flash them. U can add some lights, if u want to simulate the strikes that flash inside the house too, But use smaller fixtures, like 1k fresnels. Just be sure that u group them so they will flash all together. I hope that I have been helpfull. It's just that I do not know how big your set is. Dimitrios Koukas
  12. Laurent Vey nice cases but, there is no reason for this, u only need that whe u are diving. And u have to open your equipment in big depths, or you are climbing the Everest mountain and u want to open your equipment up there. It says that their pattent will help you openning them. U can do the same job with any case while climbing a mountain as long as u open the case every 4000ft.So u let same pressure air get into the case. ;) I believe there are made for military purposes but there are very tough indeed. You can't be safer with them in an airplane. But I guess they will do for Dust-off cans carrying. But remember, if the regulations say no, then it's definately a NO. So we are staying back to the first that I suggested , to just go and buy your Dust-off cans when u land. Dimitrios Koukas
  13. This weird pressure usually happens when u have a cold, one bubble of air is traped in the ear tubes that are blocked from snot, so the bubble the pressure of air when trapped, (usually about 0-1000 ft) while the airplanes cabin keeps the pressure equal to 6800 ft when you are flying above 6800-36000ft. Don't even worry if you see blood running of your nose the next day, it's this bubble that finally found it's way out! There are two cases of loss of cabin pressure, the immediate one and the slower one, In the slower, u usually have eyphoria then hypoxia and after u loose consiousness, while in the accelarated one there aren't so much that u can do,just put your oxygen mask on. And yes we are completely out of subject! I hope the posters forgive us for this. Dimitrios Koukas
  14. There is always the glidecam 2000pro for small cameras stabilization , why not ask for how much u will find it from a rental house? You will need an operator for this though. check www.glidecam.com Dimitrios
  15.  Earth is a small planet after all. Dimitrios
  16. Between the three I would suggest the Bolex, and some bolex with no crystal at all.You know the one with the wind up thing... It's good for animation and still photography. Dimitrios Koukas
  17. Andrew, The movie ''Speed'' was the first movie of a D.o.P. And I believed he got both the movie and Sandra Bullock in the box-office for years. Also K.Reeve I believe? Dimitrios Koukas
  18. Landon, In 3 perf, you have to do an intermediate positive 4 perf by optical printing and then a contact print intermediate negative, before u actually do a contact print for theatrical release.(I've found this at ARRI's site,3-perfs technical specs brochure.) With 4 perfs in a low budget story, u can go directly for theatrical print after the negative editing.(and after the colour timing) Dimitrios Koukas
  19. As for the second part,no this rarely happens,I mean really rarely, cause it's unfortunately most of the times fatal. Depending on the altitude this happens u can have only three seconds to wear your oxygen mask. For me beeing a heavy smoker, even that could reach at my mask I would be probably unconsious before that. U see it's excactly the same with what happens to scuba divers, at long depths. All has to do with the quantity of oxygen in your blood, that decreases at high Altitudes if you aren't in a pressurised cabin. Dimitrios Koukas
  20. Laurent, I am not at all familiar with this, I am sorry, but if you like to give me some more info to check what it is and reply to u. Dimitrios Koukas
  21. It doesn't matter what the light source is! Greg Gross <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Greg, I have to dissagree with you, Fall off and the inverse square law is excactly applied when your lights are difused or bounced. Not for openface lights or Fresnels nor cinepars. Do a test , u will see that the output has no connection at all with this law. Dimitrios Koukas
  22. Watch if there is any steadyshot on, and try higher shutter speeds, this will not solve your problem but if u experiment with shutter speeds, maybe u will make it less. Also check if you are shooting interlaced or non- interlaced. Dimitrios Koukas
