  1. Here is my advice, use a LLD filter and don't bother about the exposure too much. Just remember that blue areas in the frame, like sky will be little bit noisy later. In this cases I would add a half of stop. However it's never the same picture as 85 filtered, I did it quite a lot with great results.
  2. Unfortunately, all these guys sells the equipment and they didn't even want to tell me where to rent it. I'd really like to use this camera, but Thomson doesn't seem to be interested in renting it. Strange politics.
  3. Thanks! Are these all rental companies or Thomson distributors?
  4. Does anybody know if it's possible to rent Viper in Germany or any place in Europe except UK? I'm going to shoot a feature film in Poland, in June. I'd love to use Viper instead of CineAlta, but it's not available here.
  5. Hi, The cross processing will certainly increase contrast and saturation, but be careful with the color of the flowers. From my experience it comes out quite green, especially on the print. Grading cross processed reversal is quite hard, but I think it's still worth of doing it. Obviously, it's always wise to do test. Don't be affraid to waste few meters of that stock, before you waste everything ;)
  6. Hi, I share your feelings about scope. All movies should be screened in this format, in my opinion :) I was using Konvas and Lomo anamorphics a lot. It's a nice tool, however I must warn you that they can turn your shoot into nightmare, as well. There are two important things: Lomo lenses are rated 1,4 (!) but never go below 5,6! Otherwise forget sharpness. Loading a mag is very tricky and tiny mistake will result having a "stock salad" in your camera. If you are aware of these problems shooting with Konvas will be certainly an adventure and you may expect outstanding results. The best place to buy Konvas is still Ukraine and St. Petersburg for Lomos. Curently, I don't have any contacts, but I remember you could buy new Konvas in Kiev for 1500$, including set of prime spherical lenses. Lomo anamorphics use to be available in St. Petersburg, but they were much more expensive than the camera.
  7. Is there any way to avoid it? I'm going to do some tests again tommorow and speak to Panavision. It's hard to believe there's no solution for that problem, as they say. Platinum is at least 15 years old camera. Didn't anobody shoot a B&W movie with it?!
  8. Does anyone have an experience with shooting black&white on Panaflex Platinum? I was just using it and Kodak 5222 stock. Unfortunately, we got brighter stripes on certain shots. They are especially visible on the sky or plain surfaces. First, I thought there was something wrong with the processing, but these stripes look too regular and stable. I was looking for a solution for a long time and I discovered that in back of the camera gate you have a part that tightens film to the gate. It's made of five steel stripes... I thought they could've bounced the light coming through thin b&w neg and exposed on the film. Does it make sense?
  9. I've just used a lot of 64D, both 16 and 35mm for a commercial and documentary. Comparing to 50D, Fuji seems to be a better stock for telecine. Carries more details in highlights and blacks. Colors are certainly more natural. Unfortunately I haven't printed 64 yet.
