  1. so i'm gearing up to shoot a new HD docu-soap for CBS and a majority of the show will take place inside cars. i'm trying to decide on the best design will be for aesthetic-functionality and be able to be used 360 degrees and possibly seen at times. my first through was to use 6-8 lumapanels around the interior of the car attached to the roof of the car that would hopefully bring up the ambient light enough during the day that when used in conjunction with a non-reflective ND .6 tint / ND.9, would keep the image from falling into a nuclear nightmare scenario. because it's a docu-series, i wouldn't have the luxury of moving things to fit into a 'best case scenario', so i need something easy and durable that does not need to be maintained constantly throughout the day. i figure the lumapanels could also be color corrected to work as tungsten at night. the only other option i can think of is using kino-car kits or mini flos and creating a 'ring of fire' around the edge of the roof interior, front to back and along the sides attached with monofilament, but i don't think the fc would be enough to dramatically effect the slope of the HD stock. also the bulbs would have to rate 56k and not be used at night, unless we added another strip of bulbs. that plan seems like a two-fold disaster as it requires too much work and doesn't put us where we need to be with the the amount of fc we would need. i love LED lighting for nighttime car interiors but could i use a bunch of 120w 52" LED strips all over the interior where we need it for daytime use? thoughts? comments? really could use some practical advice if anyone has any.
  2. i have an indie feature coming up and after watching "hard candy" i became very interested in shooting in the 2.35. i read a david mullen article from 05' where he talked about cropping hd to 2.35 and not compromising the image, although he had done the tests on the F900. we're shooting on the panasonic hvx900 for it's low light ability with canon digiprimes and i don't have enough money/time/producer support to run tests at this point. i was wondering if anyone has shot with the ACV-235 with a panasonic hd camera (vericam or hdx900) and how it went. with enough positive experiences i may be able to convince the producers to let me shoot some tests and get it out on 35. the canon website does not have any tech info about exposure factors so if anyone has any info on that i would love to hear about it. thank you!
  3. I'm currently gearing up for an indie feature shot on HD and have some questions about HD prime lenses. I've shot with the Zeiss digi primes but not with the Canon or Fuji 2/3in digital primes. I would love to get some feedback from anyone has shot with either Canon or Fuji in contrast to the Zeiss lenses. I'm getting ready to do some tests but budget constraints will not allow me to test all three side by side. I'm primarily looking at the 14mm, and 24mm lenses, trying to achieve a similar angle of view as a 28mm and 50mm lens in 35mm.
  4. My name is Adrian and I am a reality based DP working out of LA and Vegas. I am currently on pre-production on a $250,000 feature film, my third feature film to date. I'm looking for a little advice as to what VHS does when you attempt to blow it up to the big screen. Sections of the film I'm working on require flashback sequences and I want to really create a unique look that will play against the HD format we are shooting on. If anyone has any experience with VHS blow-up or any ideas how to create a unique look on a similar format, I would love to hear them. Thank you for your time!
  5. does anyone have a link to the asc article on this film?
  6. I recently began working strictly with the Sony F900 as an operator and slightly less-than-knowledgeable DIT. I'm very well versed with the menus but haven't quite got the hang of saving a scene file (or multiple scene files) to the memory stick, transferring them to another F900, and then loading and re-saving them again. I've walked through the process using Wheeler's book but still couldn't nail it down. If anyone has an online resource or could give me an idiot proof step-by-step walkthrough I'd really appreciate it.
