  1. I didn't really mean who knows more about film, like theory and aesthetics, etc, just that Quentin seems to be able to remember all kinds of dialog and shots and facts and who did what, kinda like an film encyclopedia. Martin Scorcese probably does know more about American films but Quentin Tarintino has an extensive knowledge in especially foriegn and obscure Asian Cinema, with a very large personal collect of prints. Then again, I may be wrong, I'm not privy to Scorcese's print collection. To learn more about Scorcese's influences, check out "A Personal Journey with Martin Scorcese Through American Cinema" Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia

  3. Anyone have any cool idea's? I know this kid put moth wings on the frames, and when it was passed through the projector (get over it, it worked), it looked real cool. Was that kid named Stan Brakhage? Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  4. If it's any comfort, I believe Steven Spielberg has cut every one of his films, from Munich on back, on a flat bed. I'd be curious to know if any other high profile filmmakers still cut this way. David Lynch, for one. Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  5. I don't know what's worse. The massively immoral actions of the government, or the fact that nobody seems to know or care. I can't fight the feeling that in 40 years I'll be trying to explain to my grandchildren why none of us did a damn thing to stop it. Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  6. For some of the most dynamic and entertaining camera work in comedies, check out almost anything shot or directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, especially Raising Arizona. Can't resist this chance to shout out one of my all time favorites: 3 O'Clock High Anyone care to second? Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  7. This may or may not be related, but...For people who are interested in a self-reliant paradigm of filmmaking, check out Paul Harrill's blog: http://www.selfreliantfilm.com/ Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  8. It's like when sound films were first popularized and people would go to the movies just to watch someone answer the phone. That's what passed for entertainment, and at the time, theorists claimed that sound was the death of film as an artform. It turns out there were still great movies to be made once the novelty wore off and filmmakers got back into the story telling business. Of course, there will always be crappy movies for us to talk about as well. Jon Barr Film Student Philadelphia, PA
  9. "Heck, if Hollywood's full of scumbags what's the point in aiming to work there some day?" this question hurts my brain. it's like when you tell a robot "this statement is a lie" and he blows up. by the way, Landon Parks' posts are what got me hooked on this site. mmmm. train wrecks!
