  1. Hi I am shooting a film this upcoming week on the Alexa 35, and I want to achieve a long shutter effect for certain shots. Something like this video I've attached below. The max shutter angle I can do is 356, so it can't quite get me the same effect that people are able to achieve when they use shutter speed since they can get much longer shutter options. I know that I need to play with my frame rate, but I wanted to see if anyone has any advice for specific camera settings that they have used to achieve this kind of effect and what they were. Thanks!!
  2. Hi I am looking for a heavy duty tripod and head that can hold 40+ lbs. I would like something that doesn’t break the bank (under 10k or less) and would love to buy used if I can find it. Anyone have any good suggestions for what brands and makes I should look for?
  3. Hi all! I was curious as to the process of renting your own camera through a rental house. I am purchasing an Alexa 35 and was trying to figure out the best method to rent it out while also still having access for personal work. Some of my DP friends have told me that I am able to make agreements with rental houses to allow them to house my camera and rent it out and I keep some percent of the money they get from renting it. If anyone has any information/experience doing this, I have some questions: - what is typically in the agreements - what are typical/fair percents to take from each party - would I have to pay the rental houses to rent my own camera from them (is that typical) - is it better than renting it personally and through sharegrid/similar sites - how does it work if I want to rent my camera to a friend for a lower rate Any experience of information anyone has would be super helpful!!
  4. Hi! I am a director of photography and just finished film school. I am planning to make a major investment in buying the Alexa 35. I am looking for lenses to purchase alongside the camera that are not like crazy expensive (like the arri signatures) but still are like really nice and will be worth to use alongside such an expensive camera as the Alexa 35. I am very intrigued by the Angenieux EZ set because it would allow me to have a huge range of focal lengths and I can only buy 2 lenses instead of 5-8 primes. Does anyone have any experience with that set and know if it holds up to a high enough standard of a super speed prime lens set/equivalent lenses? Also are there other prime sets that are under 40k (for a set) that are worth an investment over the angenueux ez set or any other cinema zoom lenses that are similar in price that you like better? I just want something that would allow me not to get amazing footage out of the Alexa 35 without having to rent any outside lenses. Any advice would be helpful!!
  5. I just bought a Source 4 750W on Ebay and I didn't realize that it has a bates stage pin plug rather than an edison. Does anyone know of any converters that are safe and can hand the 750W with no issue so I can go from bates to edison so I can plug it in to a household outlet?
  6. I was trying to figure out what the output equivalence of the Aperture 600D or 1200D is to a comparable HMI. Like is the Aperture 1200D at full blast more output or less than a 5K Frensel? Online I can see that the 1200D max power output is 1200W but how does that compare to traditional non-LED HMI's? I'm very lost, so if you have any thoughts please add them
