  1. Hi everyone, I was looking for some tips on getting a graded video perfect for broadcast. We were using Vimeo to upload and check the file, because we don't have a broadcast monitor. Then we realized the vimeo upload was darker than our original video. Grading in Davinci and exporting out of premiere, it seems as though vimeo shifts the gamma to 1.98. This got me to question what the broadcast gamma would be, and how can we check our video accurately before sending it off. My questions now are : -how do we check exposure without a broadcast monitor -What gamma will it be on broadcast? We don't want the video going dark as the scene already is a bit dark. -Does Davinci tag the exported gamma and premiere doesn't ? (Something I read) Any tips or links are greatly appreciated
  2. Hello, I'm using Resolve 18 to key some Canon Raw green screen footage. Everything goes relatively smoothly until I adjust the Matte threshold. The Alpha channel looks pure white, but the footage gets black splotchy / grainy. I can't find any work arounds to get rid of this. I believe my footage is exposed well. I tried a quick Colorspace transforms (guessing settings) in my node tree to see if more saturated footage would help, but it did not. I tried as many different workflow attempts as I could find. I used a clean plate as the keyer color, and the footage still gets the black dots. When changing view mode to intermediate result it did seem to get rid of the black dots but the green background came back at half transparency, so I assumed it wasn't working? I also tried the 3d Keyer and got a nice result with no grain, but the mask had a green outline. Is this a better keyer than the delta?
  3. Hi all, Just wondering what is the proper way of going about this, I shot some video of talent on green screen in 4k Raw. Now that it is time to pass off the footage to a third party for compositing, should I give it a color grade and export it out at a high ProRes codec, or would I pass along the raw footage? Is it easier to key Raw footage instead of footage that is graded? Just looking for some professional tips, I am asking the third party their preferred method as well! Thanks!
  4. Hi All, I'm was attempting to leave behind H.264 for H.265, but it's not as easy as I originally thought. When rendering out of Premiere 22.5.0 this newer codec seems a bit buggy. I can export a video as long as I don't mess with bit rate settings. and I keep it in VBR Good Quality. CBR is not working for me. I am attempting to render on a MacBook 2017 with Intel Core I7 processor. ( also tried on a newer 2021 M1 MacBook and I got the same results) What I would like to do is change my Bitrate Encoding to CBR and crank the Mbps to max, Change Quality to Highest, to get the best quality H.265 Video possible. However the software will either render to 100% and then freeze. or I will get an error message. Anyone have experience on this, is it time to ditch Premiere for Davinci? I've looked at a bunch of threads and nothing seems to be consistent. Thanks!
  5. Hi all, Photographer turned Videographer here. and I had a few questions about pulling focus that i was hoping some of you could give your input on. I have been using a Tilta Nucleus on Canon c200 setup for about 3 years now. We have done a few jobs with this setup but I haven't been around a big film crew where I would have seen a real pro pull focus. So everything is DIY and pretty self explanatory. However, we did hire someone to pull focus and they did a few things that after some research has still left me a bit puzzled. We were using Cinema Zeiss Lenses and they firstly matched the Tilta focus ring on the remote to match the lens foot by foot. But what really puzzled me was throughout the day he would measure his focus from camera to subject depending on the shot, the camera stayed relatively still in Z space for our shots. After researching why this was, I am finding it isn't good to "rely on your monitor for focus" because you can "lose your focus in the space of the 2D image. Can any focus pullers out there explain to me why you don't rely on the monitor when in todays age it seems like you see everything for what it is? -Any other tips are appreciated Thanks!
