  1. OPEN REGARDS TO ALL ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: and many thanks for your help and support ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I'm preparing to do a bit of filming this weekend and i'm anticipating a few seperate scenarios in which lighting changes may warrant me purchasing 2 seperate film stocks. I've just purchased a clean MINOLTA XL601 that has a fairly large aperture of 1:4, which should allow for some Existing Light . Low Light Level filming. My First question is which film stock would be best for Low Light Situations? I had bought some Ektachrome VNF 7240 ASA 125 but i had intended to use that for bright daylight situations. ALSO Would it be best to shoot the Night/Low Light scenes with a manual aperture setting, rather than on automatic? ................. LASTLY Has anyone had experience with shooting SUPER 8 alongside a spotlight, or camera mounted light? What sort of effect would this have on the film and exposure if the only available light was from a strong directional light on the camera? What Stock and Speed would you recommend for this use? ( i'm thinking of going to home depot and rigging up a portable spotlight for this ) again, many thanks in advance for any help and advice ......... aerosyn-lex mestrovic . brooklyn
  2. REGARDS ALL ..................... Many Thanks In Advance for your help and advice ..................... I've just received my first SUPER 8 Camera, namely the Minolta XL601. I was hoping to find someone on these boards that might have had some experience working with this camera and could provide me with some insights as to how to best implement it's features. Exposure Light Meter Back Light Intervalometer Diopeter I've been searching for a MANUAL, since unfortunately this camera did not come with one, but i have only noticed places selling similar model photocopies at a price of Half my Cameras Cost... Any reference or advice is welcomed and appreciated ..................... Even Jesus Hollers Back LEX
  3. REGARDS ALL... ........................ Many thanks in advance for your continued help, i must say i've learned volumes about the art of film and cinematography simply by reading through this forum. I Would However-- like to ask for some opinions as to which type of 8mm camera a Novice such as myself should purchase? ? ? I am looking for a no nonsense camera that would allow for a decent margin of error when dealing with exposure and metering, I was told to look at the late model CANON's 814-1014XLS but i have been awe-struck by the solid look of the NIZO BRAUN S800 ... i'm looking to spend around 200 USD$ on a camera that would be reliable and easily operated, both indoor and outdoor. I was hoping for LAPDISSOLVE and also a functioning on camera light meter... ????????????? ANY RECCOMENDATIONS OR ANY EXPERIENCE THAT YOU COULD SHARE would be greatly appreciate BEST REGARDS aerosyn-lex mestrovic

  5. MANY MANY THANKS for all of your replies i would like to ask though: is there any particular camera which might be best suited for a novice, something that is without sound, but still with Multiple FPS and a solid lens. thank you for the suggestions in matching vintage stock, i think for my purposes a good Super 8 set up will work quite well.. should i be looking at NIZO BEAULIEU let me know thanks again all aerosyn-lex
  6. REGARDS ALL Much respect to all those esteemed and knowledgable individuals here who take the time to address the at time obvious questons of new enthusiasts such as myself. I am a student in Design and have no formal knowledge of Film; I would like to press to you this question of how i might be able to purchase a 8mm set up that would allow me to record images remeniscent of VIETNAM era frontline footage; something with a 60's 70's journalistic quality. EBAY has an infinite amount of makes and models, i've scoured the net, read a good FAQ on 8mmshooting.com and have asked some flim students what they reccomend. I simply want a solid camera, Mulitple FPS, Single Frame, possibly SOUND that would allow me to easily jump in and FILM... what might you reccomend . in the area of 100 - 200 dollars ? ? ? Braun Nizo Cannon Nikon Beaulieu Belle Howell ....... again if anyone knows of a resource that describes the AESTHETIC QUALITY of CERTAIN ERA's film quality please let me know. I'm extremely interested in recording images in a way that looks distinctly VINTAGE IS OLD GEAR THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT???? many thanks in advance aerosyn-lex mestrovic HOLLA
  7. REGARDS AND RESPECT TO ALL ..... ..... i know that i am in the company of many a knowledgable and esteemed individual, i myself am anything but and press to you this question on the aesthetics of beta video. I am a student interested in filming a piece with heavy emphasis on the quality of the image recording. HOW MIGHT I ATTAIN A VINTAGE COLOR VIDEO LOOK AND SET UP??? i've noticed that the recorded quality of vintage broadcast video seems to be almost surreal; a saturation of color and strange depth of field. Can someone address these questions and comment on what makes 70's 80's video look distinctly vintage? what type of equipment could a student on a budget purchase (via ebay) in hopes of replicating that look ? ? ? ..... ..... many many thanks for your attention i sincerely hope my question is not too broad and indirect thank you for your patience Aerosyn-Lex REGARDS
  8. REGARDS AND RESPECT ALL Thank you for taking the time to address this question; Firstly, i'd like to say that i understand that i may be addressing a great deal of qualified and knowledgable individuals with regards to the world of film and cinematography. i myslef am anything but, but i hope to ask these questions in a proper and relatable manner. I am a design student, interested in doing some filming, with a major emphasis being put on the quality of the recorded image. I have scoured the net to try and define what era's equate to which brand of equipment and technology. I would like to replicate something remeniscent of late 70's early 80's color video broadcast recordings. WHAT DEFINES THE AESTHETICS OF BETA? Could someone please address how a severe Newbie such as myself might find a vintage betarecorder system and possibly VTR, and make recordings with a markedly vintage 80's aesthetic. ANY DIRECTION AND ADVICE IS MUCH MUCH APPRECIATED thank you all in advance Aerosyn-Lex
