  1. Hey everyone, I've completed my feature (www.clockingpaper.com) and I secured a theater to have a private screening. The projector at the theater is a Christie Digital CP2000. They have a dvd player hooked up to it and I ran a screen test with a DL dvd that I encoded with multipass VBR using CCE. The dvd player was connected to the projector via component cable. The close ups looked pretty good but all of my wide shots looked semi-blurry and kind of pixelated. There are also some subtitles in the film and they look kind of blurry. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I was looking into up-sampling the resolution to fit the projector's native resolution and connecting to the projector via DVI straight out of a computer. Will this give me a massive increase in the video quality and solve my blurry problem with the wider shots? I know that there isn't much that I can do because my image was captured on miniDV using a DVX100a, but is there any way that I can increase the picture quality so I don't get blurry on my wide shots? Any ideas/feedback would be very helpful. Thank you. -Korhan
  2. Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in a while. I'm currently in post production on my independent feature shot with a dvx100a. Check out the site www.clockingpaper.com and download the "new trailer". Let me know what you guys think. -Korhan

  4. If i shuttle around my clips in either the source window or record window, it is at a good brightness level. Yet when i click "play" it get really dark and you can hardly see the footage. I want to be able to see my footage when it is being played. I am cutting on a 23.97 timeline and all my footage was shot in 24pa with the pulldown removed. For that reason i don't think i can output to a ntsc monitor without a mojo (if i understand correctly). Please help me find a solution so i can view my footage while it is being played. thank you
  5. i have only had experience with the premiere pro 1.5, FCP, and dps velocity NLEs. Does avid express pro HD support 24pa?
  6. Hey guys, I shot and cut a trailer for my upcoming film. It was my first time really playing with dvx100a and doing my own lighting setups. Tell me what you guys think. Go easy on me :) http://www.clockingpaper.com
  7. I've been reading on some other forums that the panasonic head cleaner can actually damage the heads and cost you a lot more than if you took it in to a servicer to get them cleaned. Has any one ever had problems with using the head cleaner on this camera?
  8. Has anyone ever used the Softscreen from http://indietoolbox.com to get a shallow DOF. The pics on the site look pretty good. I was considering buying it to use w/ my dvx. Anyone here ever try it? Is it worth it?
  9. Thomas Worth, are there any tutorials on the internet that you could lead me to so I could learn how to achieve a look like that in post?
  10. ZGC.com sells the Chrosziel 4X4 mattebox that can be used with this camera. You can also buy a modified anamorphic adapter to use along with the mattebox. I'm sure you could find it at a lot of different sites. But they have an informative diagram at this site. http://www.zgc.com/zgc.nsf/0/1dcef929111d7...d7?OpenDocument

  12. Doesn't Premiere Pro 1.5 support the pulldown and 24p output?

    Twixtor?

I know this has been discussed here before..... but I wanted a some more specific details about what to do. To achieve smooth slow motion, you can shoot at 60i, and change fields to frames and slow the footage down but you lose vertical resolution that way. My final output will be 24p. 1: Is the vertical resolution loss worth getting that slow motion footage? Will it be extremely noticeable? 2: How do these other programs work? (Twixtor and Motion Perfect) There is a huge price difference between them. Is Twixtor worth the extra money? If I have the option of using Twixtor ? should I do it? Or should I just use that bob deinterlacer and slow it down my self? Will there be a considerable difference in the quality of the slow motion footage?
  15. I made six shorts while I was in high school and my feature the first year of college. I alway used the school's cheap 3ccd Sony camcorder for these films and never used any accessories. Until a couple months ago, i have never researched/worked w/ lenses or filters. I am teaching myself how to use these cinematography tools now and plan on putting them to use on this next feature. It is clear that i had a question about ND filters and it was answered........ your comment served no purpose but to attack me. - If you are a couple years older than me, you sure don't act like it. Sorry Tim
  16. I never claimed to be a genius, if you read my post it said that I WAS LEARNING. But based on your post I'd say you're some no talent, pompus prick. I'm 20 and have already done a feature film as well as 6 shorts. It's amazing to me that you were so bored that you were reading through the posts and had to make some comment about how I don't know what a ND filter is. I am trying to learn as much as i can from this forum and it's ignorant failures like you that motivate the ambitious filmmakers like us to do good work. So actually, I would like to thank you. Keep being a prick :)
  17. I'm a writer/director.... not a dp. I just got into all this cinematography stuff and I'm learning. This feature will probably look better than anything you have ever done. I'll send you a copy when it's finished :)
  18. Hey guys, I got my camera today and I have one main question. Is there a way to tell if my camera is a US model and covered under Panasonic's warranty? I have the greenish card that says send to USA or Puerto Rico, but the Panasonic guy i spoke with said that even though I have that, it doesn't mean I didn't get an imported model / greymarket model. Is there somewhere I can check online or call someone to check the serial number to see if it is in fact a US model. Thank you
  19. Thank you very much for the feedback David. Do you know how to convert each field to a frame in Premiere Pro 1.5? And when I do this, will it be editing 24p footage with 60p footage? Because you said 60p played back as 24p footage, and i don't think i completely understand that.
  20. Hey everyone, I plan on shooting a feature film on a dvx100a with a pretty tight budget. My old high school has a studio and the guy in charge over there is letting me borrow his lighting equipment. And i just met this professional still photographer who also has some of his own equipment. (he is willing to work on this project for a cheap price as long as i make a portfolio video for him :)) My question is.......... would it be wise of me to hire this professional still photographer to be the gaffer on my project? I think that his exp. with still photography will help a lot even though this is his first time working on a film. What do you guys think? Am i doing the right thing?

    Slow Motion

Hey everyone, If i am shooting in the 24p mode with this camera, what is the best route to take in order to achieve a good looking slow motion effect. I know in premiere i can just slow it down but then it gets all choppy. I've heard of programs that add frames or something to make the slow mo a lot cleaner and better looking. Any ideas?
  22. So is the only real advantage of the dvx100a the 24p capability for around 3k?
  23. Okay so who do I listen to? I know that matte boxes are expensive but the only real gain from them that i am gathering from these posts is the ease of changing filters, and the sunshade. Are the 4x4 filters very different from the screw on ones?
