  2. I know these are rare- Looking for x2 Arri 416 Magazines, let me know if you have any to sell. Many thanks.
  3. Thought I’d share some stills from a recent music video shoot. Shot on an ultra 16 modified Canon scoopic & only available light. All 500T pushed 1 stop. Not final color grade, just my quick adjustments in resolve. Higher res stills: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10LWsp72Wvi8Eu3_x4U6DvWFkVzoA1Xoe
  4. I've been trying to purchase a decent Arri SR2 w/ Super16, but they're either too expensive, the sets miss a lot of vital accessories, or the cams don't seem to be in the best of shape. This has lead me to consider going for a regular SR1 or SR2 and mount anamorphic lenses. My questions: Does anyone have any experience shooting Arri 16SR or SR2 regular 16mm with an anamorphic lens? What are the biggest challenges? Do I have a lot of options with anamorphic lenses on a arri bayonet mount? Is the noise level on earlier Arri SR1's gonna be a problem for nearby sound recording? Thanks! ?
  5. I can't get enough of them and never know what I will find. Everyday is like Christmas. Recently I acquired some 16mm childbirth films from the 1940's. They were labeled 'baby being born.' They turned out to be a bonanaza. The views of 75 year old surgical rooms and dress is fascinitning in itslef, but there is so much more. The anesthesiologist continually drips ether out of a bottle on a dust mask for knocking the gal out. Another clip has the assistant pushing the baby back in the vagina as it tries to come out. Intertitle says something like: Retarded birth to allow for episiotomy. Maybe they wanted more $$ for the episiotomy? Although in 1940's I don't think healthcare was run as a big biz as it is nowadays. Most likely the baby's head was too big for the mommy's birth canal and it was not greed. I have a bunch more in the childbirth series, all sort of things, different types of Caesareans, twins birth, breech birth, etc. They were part of the 50+ films I scanned over the last couple weeks. Still need to PP'em, but I put 2 from the childbirth series up at the I.A. for your perusal. nsfw https://archive.org/search.php?query=childbirth teoli If the Retroscan blows up or gets stolen, I got my money out of it anyway. 50 films = about $8,000 for scanning fees. Now I just need to get the other 1050 films scanned! But I'm not in a rush. Still holding out hope for a benefactor to buy me a cheap Lasergraphics scanner. So, I'm in no hurry to scan all the films twice. And due to no room to work, I had to stow the Retroscan to make room for the copy stand work that I am doing now. And that Retroscan is tiny, so you know I'm cramped. A Japanese / American guy I met, that took a trip to Tokyo, told me they don't go by square feet in Tokyo... they go by square inches! That sounds like me. I'm always looking to find some more square inches! My dream house would be a house with 40 or 50 chrome wire shelving units lining the walls. Getting back to that retarded birth... I may make a 'Retarded birth to allow for episiotomy' production company with the clip of the baby being pushed back in the vag . That would be crazy huh! I love adding some craziness to the films, certain films that is. The more business like films and films that require more respect get more conservative production companies. But it is fun 'having fun' with the films. And when you are underground you can do as you please. I came up with crazy production company names after seeing so many stupid production company names on films where they were trying their best to not be stupid. I thought to myself, "Jeeesus, couldn't they find a better name than that?" So I figured, let me have some fun with it.
  6. Purchased years ago. Provenance was Bob Monkhouse collection. https://archive.org/search.php?query=Mary+Pickford+Excerpts+Bob+Monkhouse Developed a liking for Pickford after seeing her in M'liss. Plus scanning and working with this film developed more interest in Pickford. She was something. Get a copy of Mary Pickford: Muse of the Movies from your library. Great early days Hollywood coverage. Pickford wanted to burn all her movies when she died. What a nut. She was worried people would make fun of them. OK, maybe not a nut, but just an egomaniac. David Mullen was connected with the film as well.
  7. Here is the old 1942 16mm Kodachrome home movie I just scanned... https://archive.org/search.php?query=Sooner+or+Later+Y'all+End+Up+on+eBay The title came from a discussion they were having on a film collectors forum. One guy didn't like eBay, he wanted to buy film from yard sales. He was complaining he could find projectors, but he could not find any old films. I told him he has to suck it up and go to eBay. The pickers descend on estate sales at the crack of dawn, they gobble up old photos and any films and boom...Sooner or Later Y'all End Up on eBay! The scan is also an example of what the Retroscan can do. It is pretty much a raw scan. No image stabilization. Just slight color grading as Movavi software is not the best for color grading.

  9. Hi! I'd like to repair my zeiss 8mm t2.1 standard speed lens for 16mm camera's. The focus markings are not correct anymore. Looking through the viewfinder gives me an estimate that the 3m mark is actually infinity. It works but my close focus is very long because of this. My local rental house tried to service it but said they could only repair it by changing it to another mount. I was wondering, could it be a back focus problem? Or does the whole focus mechanism needs to be serviced. If so, do you maybe have an address here in Europe? (living in the netherlands myself) Thanks in advance!
  10. For Sale : Fuji 35 & 16mm 400ft. stock new & sealed. Stored in a temperature controlled environment. Purchased new in 2011 & 2012.
  11. Hello All, I just completed a new short film shot on 16MM Kodak film via an Arri SR3 HS. I wrote and directed this fun little horror short, and my producing partner, and friend, Evan Samaras did the cinematography (say hi in the comments, Evan). Not only did Evan and I work behind the camera, but also in front of it. The short features only two characters played by us. Due to COVID-19, we wanted to make something small with a minimal, to non-existent, cast and crew. We have submitted the film to some festivals so, for the time being, it is only up privately with a password on our Vimeo page. The link and password are below, for your viewing pleasure. Please let me know your thoughts and critiques. Anything feedback would be greatly appreciated. Password: SRF2020 Thank you all in advance! Keep shooting!
  12. As I’ve been searching for some new lenses for my Beaulieu R16, I discovered the Contax / Zeiss line of lenses that seems affordable & visually wonderful. I’m wondering if there’s a solution similar to the Speedbooster, (for 16mm film cameras) to reduce focal length on these 35mm lenses? I’ve seen the cheap “wide angle adapters” but they seem like garbage.
  13. London based DP looking to buy some Super 16mm lenses/lens PL mount for SR3. Anyone have any links? Considering primes and zooms.
  14. Hi I’m looking to purchase a bolex h16 reflex camera or any other reflex 16mm cameras like beaulieu r16 canon scooping, arr16, arr2bc, etc my price range is the highest $600
  15. Hello, everyone! I recently bought a K3 on ebay and just finished getting my second roll scanned. Unfortunately, a lot of what would have otherwise been some nice footage came out unusable because of a very strange issue. Here are a couple clips that demonstrate the problem: Basically, at the start of a shot, the film will weave in and out of focus (there are always a few frames at the start of a shot that are in perfect focus) but then the film settles in a position where the center of the frame is blurred, while the sides seem to be in focus. I had only noticed this issue in a couple of shots in the past so I wrote it off as a one-off thing, but it was happening a lot with this last roll I shot. From reading this post from 2008 which describes the exact same issue, (only with an Arri 16S) it seems like the pressure plate just isn't holding the film flat enough, and I need to either replace the current pressure plate spring or tighten it. In some other threads, I've also come across people mentioning that they have tightened the pressure plate spring on their K3's, but I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to do that. Does anyone here happen to know how I could make that adjustment with my K3? Do I maybe need a new pressure plate in general?
  16. I work in TV, so when it comes to 16mm I'm just an enthusiast, and all of my 16mm footage so far has been on my Krasnogorsk-3, which has served me well. Having said that, I would like to eventually shoot some more ambitious projects on film (requiring sound, longer takes, etc), but unfortunately the closest place I could rent a film camera from is about five hours away. Because of this, I occasionally find myself browsing eBay for cameras, and often Regular 16 cameras such as Arri SRs, Aatons, or CP-16s are available. I can't help but wonder how worthwhile buying a Regular 16 camera is though; Super 16 seems to be preferable in every way. I guess Regular 16 is good if you want a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it seems like most people would prefer to shoot Super 16 and crop the sides instead. Likewise, if you wanted a wider aspect ratio, you could crop the top and bottom of your Regular 16 image, but Super 16 would require less cropping and give you a bigger image area. It's also worth noting that many Regular 16 cameras can be converted to Super 16, but for the cost it seems like you might as well have just bought a Super 16 camera in the first place. As I said, I'm not a professional when it comes to film, so I'm not sure if I will ever be able to justify purchasing my own professional-level 16mm camera. However, the (generally) lower cost of Regular 16 cameras does make it a little tempting sometimes. What do you guys think, are Regular 16 cameras worth investing in? Note: Yes, I recognize that both Regular 16 and Super 16 would widely be considered "obsolete" these days, so strictly speaking they probably aren't worth "investing" in. I just mean this in the context of those who enjoy shooting celluloid.
  17. I am working on the film looping installation but I found loading on the looper is pretty hard to get 'balanced'. As I understood, ideally looping system has to reel and unreel film more or less same amount film so it won't stuck or become large film donut? I load the film with spacer on inner circle and remove it later, so whole film roll could rotate smoothly on the looper plate and it could release. It runs well for a while without any problem but after certain moment you can see the whole film circle is getting smaller or bigger which lead the looper stuck with film or make the film out of track(plate). It doesn't happen always same point or duration of time so I feel it almost randomly happen. Barely it runs on 'balanced' mode, but I have no idea why. and what did I do. Is there basic general rules or warnings that I have to mind? I guess the amount of film and the type of the looper would be another factor, I'd like to run 100 to 150m length film if possible.(but I'd like to find stable way first even if shorter length) Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  19. Hey everyone, I have decided to part with my Bolex h16 Rex 5. It has the 10x viewfinder. The camera is in flawless cosmetic and working condition. I just had it serviced 4 months ago, and it runs like clockwork. It is very clean inside and out. Unfortunately the camera does not come with any lenses. I am also throwing in a couple of extras, please what’s included see below: -Bolex H16 rex 5 camera body -Extra rubber eye cup -Extra pressure plate (just in case you ever lose the one in the camera!) -Bolex surefire hand grip with trigger cable -filters, extra written gel filters -rewind key -a little reflective light meter that fits in cold shoe. I am asking for $2,100 + shipping and insurance. I am also willing to do local pickup if you are in New Jersey. If interested, DM me for any photos and more details.
  20. Anyone have any suggestions regarding a reasonable 2nd hand light meter to use with the Arri SB 16mm camera? Anything I should be aware of? Not experienced with 16mm yet. Intend to shoot a short film soon and need a decent light meter. Thanks.
  21. Hello, The eyepiece on my SR2 used to open and close when I applied pressure, preventing unwanted light passing through when not filming. It has stopped doing that and is just constantly open. Anyone have any advice on how to fix it? I have tried to wiggle it ect Cheers, Ed
  22. This is probably a dumb question but can you load black leader film into your camera (in my case bolex). Just wanted to practice loading my camera in the dark but need a dummy reel. Is it better to just buy a dummy reel thats been shot on already or is black leader film fine?
  23. Bought eight 400ft rolls of 16mm double-x about nine months ago directly from Kodak for a shoot that was cancelled due to covid. It's been in a refrigerator since then, so should be just about as good as new. Prefer to sell it all, but happy to sell in parts as well. Located in LA, so local pickup/drop-off preferred but can ship if paid for. Looking for 130/roll, but open to offers.
  24. Hi im wondering if anyone can answer a question I’ve been pondering, that being...is it possible to change the shutter degree angle on a bolex rex 3?
  25. Question : Shooting anamorphic in super16 mm film, Is there a way to exploit the black space between two frames the same way it is done with the in 35 mm with 2 perf for 2:39 and gain time on you 400ft roll I am shooting with hawk vlite16 1.3 anamorphic , probably sr1 but i am wondering if there is a camera model that can allow to expoit more surface on the negative (and so, having more time per roll than the usual 10 min/400ft) by having the frames close to each other. I'm thinking why wouldn't that be possible, 16 mm anamorphic withmore than 10 min per 400 ft mag ? (the small size of the 16mm film ? the small size of the mechanic that pull the movie down ? so 1 perf is all there is for super 16 ? does anyone have a movie in mind that was shot anamoprhic 16mm film ?) I know high frame rate cameras exists, with precise mechanics that allows to have that maybe ... i am looking for a professional regular model though ... Cheers, J
