  1. Tobin Crystal Sync Krasnogorsk 3 16mm camera. Plastic loop guiders removed to prevent 16mm from scratching against it. The camera is in EXCELLENT working condition. Also included are rubber eye piece and handle. I can throw in a few extra Zeiss Jenna lenses msg me for videos and pictures of the camera working and running.
  2. Attached are several photos of my ARRI SR3 16MM Camera Package. These items are for sale as a package OR my be sold separately. See pricing included, OBO. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks, Roland
  3. Shooting a student project on the Bolex H-16 camera, I understand that 25% of light is lost by going into the viewfinder. That means that on a normal light meter it has to be compensated for right? I will be using 250D stock, would setting the ASA on the light meter to 160 compensate for this? and then could I use the light meter as normal? Also is there any common problems or tips and tricks that might be useful for me to know before the shoot? Thanks Will
  4. The focus adjustment ring on my bolex h16 reflex camera is stuck. I have tried focusing the ground glass with the lenses removed and the camera pointed at a bright light source. The ring will move a little bit and I can see the ground glass blurring and sharpening, but I do not have full movement of the ring. I tried losening the screw on the focus ring and re-tightening it, and it still will not budge. It feels as if it is catching on something, I can hear a little clicking noise when I try to turn it. I am thinking that I may need to take apart the diopter to find out what is jamming it up internally. I can't figure out how to do this- apart from tightening and loosening the screw on the focus ring. If it is possible, I would like to try to repair this by myself. Any suggestions?
  5. Hello. Would like to get some feedback on good/affordable gears for 16mm film lenses, mostly for BMPCC. I own a BMPCC , Schneider and Kern Primes. Looking for : => A good CAGE I own this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMPC-Cage-Top-Handle-Grip-15mm-BMPCC-for-Blackmagic-Pocket-Camera-support-system-/261534271701?pt=UK_Photography_Movie_Camera_Accessories&hash=item3ce4a848d5 , which scratches the body a bit when in and out, too heavy and annoying to do Steadicam work. Thinking to get the Varavon (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261398476332&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en) as Tilta is quite pricey although people say it's great, I never tried. THe good on the Varavon seem is that it looks light as per designs, but sill the Clamp is too high so in the Steadicam is hard to balance, so I might use one in my shoulder rigs that might be 2/3 of the height. I'm looking for a good one that is practical and fits well, if any other suggestion please let me know. => Good adaptable RINGS for follow focus. Still couldn't find small than 50-60mm (like this 60mm: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281387086694&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en) as the barrel of the kerns are ridiculously small (25mm wide). And I'm not sure if the 60mm would fit a Schneider barrel of 45mm for example. Any experience/Ideas of rings? Any other tips around BMPCC gear and accessories, just put in here. Thanks guys.
  6. Im finally shooting on film again in a few months on a short film. Our budget will only allow us to shoot 16, but Im considering using ENR -- which I might fund myself -- because the dark storyline could be enhanced by slightly bleak and contrasty cinematography. Ive never heard of anyone using any silver retention processing on 16, so naturally Im curious if there is any precedent. Has anyone heard about or tried this? Im going to test this, obviously, but it would be nice to know as much as I can before testing. Its been so long since Ive shot film that Im not even sure ENR is still offered at FotoKem (LA) or Technicolor (LA) anymore. Last I heard skip bleach and ENR are still an option.
  7. Hi all, I'm thinking of buying an old Hycam 16mm for high speed filming, but I know very little about them. It's here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321100773740 I'm fully prepared for this to be a big project – does anyone have any tips? Do the cameras take C Mount lenses? Many thanks for any information. Davo
  8. Hi, Been a reader for a long time but haven't been active on the site much, thought you all would have some good insights on my most recent reel. What you like, what could be done better. It's a mix of F65, Red, 16mm and one or two DSLR shots. Thanks guys, all the best! Ben http://fischinger.com/showreel-2014/
  9. Hello, I just bought a NAC 16mm High Speed Camera. I got it for a bargain price and the camera is in mint shape and everything functions. I was wondering if anyone has used this camera before? I'm looking to use it for a 16mm demo I'm making for the opening scene. I want to shoot some slow motion of the opening scene to add into the super 16mm footage. I also have searched and even contacted NAC and they have nothing to offer on maintenance on the camera. I noticed there is a oil hole and I'm only looking to go up to 500 fps or maybe 1000 fps the highest. Any other info on this camera would be great to know or if anyone knows anything about the camera besides the small info online and in the owners manual which has nothing to offer. Thanks
  10. Hello , I'm looking to work with a DP or Cinematographer that works on film in Los Angeles for free to learn more in the field. I have been working in the film industry for 11 years. I started in NYC and been living in Los Angeles for the last 3. I'm looking to learn more on film and get more experience. I have worked on digital a lot, RED, ARRI ALEXIA, Blackmagic, Canon 5D and 7D, Sony and worked on super 16mm in the past. I was lucky enough to work on 35mm twice in NYC 8 years ago. I want to learn more and get more back into film and looking to meet new people with that experience. Thanks and I really love reading the blogs on here and love making films. Experienced in loading, building, and AC work, also operating.
  11. I check Ebay constantly for bargains for my Arri but I also check out all other 16mm and 35mm equipment. Recently I have seen a surge in sales of old B&H 70DR's with and without lenses and for very high prices in comparison to Bolex as a compatible wind and go camera. They are selling at $250 body only and higher with any kind of c-mount lens. I never would consider Bolex as being of lower quality then BH in fact I think it is far better yet Bolex H16's are going un-sold at $90 and $120. Did some movie star use one in a movie or something? I remember when Clint Eastwood came out with Dirty Harry sales of .44 Magnums went through the roof to folks that would never use one and probably were not capable of using one. Is this the same kind of thing? Anyone know something about this phenomena?
  12. Last summer I made a 16mm film and was given a great amount of technical and tactical help from these forums. This film became "American Watercolors". In it, I drive an old Datsun B210 from New Mexico to the ocean. The camera I used was my grandfathers Bell & Howell 240 and I learned after the fact that there was a registration issue with the camera which is what caused all of the melding and mushing of image. The film has shown this year at the Johns Hopkins Film Festival, Indie Grits Film Festival & Athens of Ohio Film & VIdeo Festival. I leave in 3 days for a 5 week road journey of Europe and I will be creating another film similar to American Watercolors. This time I plan on using voicemails from people we encounter on the road as a sonic layer to better help specify site and narrative... Any thoughts on this or other work I have uploaded to Vimeo is more than welcome and appreciated! Best
  13. Here's my latest reel.. Moving to NY from LA next week. https://vimeo.com/96209450 35mm, 16mm, Alexa, Red, HD Thanks for checkin it out--
  14. Hello People! Please help me if you are an expert in Arri's and 16mm's. I am confused. Reading a lot about Arri 16 BL and their specific bayonet mounts, lenses...adapters and manuals. My question is can any other lenses-which are not in the manual- be used at any way on the Arri 16 BL or because of the specific bayonet mount I am only able the use the manufacture required lenses with the Arri bayonet mount? Had a look on some vintage Zeiss Sonar Pentaflex 16mm lenses and some vintage Kodak looks like it might fit..? or am I wrong. What I don't want is to destroy a delicate working Arri 16 BL. The picture is taken of the actual Arri and the attachment ring. Can this be replaced with any other adapter ring maybe? If anyone out there is an expert...please advise. Thank you Levi
  15. Preferably in PL mount, and from sellers in the UK/EU (as I'm based in the UK), though open to offers from further afield. Kind Regards, Josh

  17. Hey, I've got a Bolex EBM 16mm cam in pretty good condition that doesn't seem to run. I've tested it with multiple power sources and the red light turns on but the motor does not run when you press the button. I've tried to find people with Bolex knowledge in the Vancouver area but have had no luck! Any ideas as to what could be the problem? Or any suggestions as to my next course of action? Thanks in advance!
  18. Alright, where to start... I'm a young aspiring filmmaker whose had a passion for making films ever since I was 6. Self-taught, I've made films all on the digital format, and recently, I've been shooting short films on the Canon Rebel T2i. I'm all for manual control, and I'm a pretty big hater of auto focus. Being that most of the filmmakers that inspire me shoot on film, and that it's (sadly enough) slowly dying, I've decided I want to move from digital to film. Now I understand that a great place to begin is with film photography. I've signed up for a photography class (showing you how to shoot and develop film) for my Junior year, and I've also been reading through the web and these forums to understand the film process. My first set of questions are: What still film camera should I begin with? What type of film should I use? Anyway to make a cheap DIY dark room setup? After some practice with that, I wish to begin filming short films (after some more tests of course) on a motion picture film camera. I have in mind using a Super 16mm camera, however that may not be the right choice depending on your responses. So here is my big set of questions for you guys: Which Super 16mm (if I should even use a Super 16mm) should I shoot with? Which film stock should I shoot on? What are the differences between types of film stock? I understand that there's the 'Ultra' modification to convert 4:3 to 16:9, is there any other way to do this (2x anamorphic lenses)? Or could the gate be easily modified on my own? Should I use light meters? If so, which ones do you recommend? What's the best and affordable way of a HD DIY telecine? I understand you can send in your film to get it processed and telecined, but which one is the most reliable and affordable? How to properly light an indoor scene? How to shoot at night (EXT and INT)? Recommended books or websites? __________________________________________________________________________________ As for my tastes and interests (as it could help you answer my questions more specifically): I love Hitchcock, Welles, Nolan, and Kubrick. Film noir has always intrigued me, and I love the look of it. I guess you can say I love low-light photography and cinematography. A modern DP that I dearly love is Wally Pfister, and I understand he shoots on film. If I asked him these questions, what would he say? I also understand Chris Nolan shot Following with an Arriflex BL 16mm (don't know which model). I love the community here, and I hope you guys can understand my switch to film as I think its the true magic of cinema. Thanks ahead of time for checking this post out and taking the time to respond to newbies like myself. I hope to deliver my style and form of storytelling with film. Thanks so much guys! *do note that I own a Bell and Howell MS 30 Super 8mm (no stock)*
  19. Hello, I'm in the market for a super-16 camera with video assist/tap, 400ft mags, crystal sync at 24/25. Got my eye out for an Arri SR2, SR3, or an Aaton, although a reliable Eclair NPR could do the trick. A camera in Europe is preferable as import duty costs a fortune. Looking to spend £1000 - £2000 ($1650 - $3300) depending on the model and condition. Thanks, Greg
  20. Hi guys, I'm not a cinematographer but I came a cress this beautiful camera, a Debrie 16mm. It has been used by the Swedish Televison company as it says on the case. Comes with 4 film holders (!!??). I want to sell it and you are welcome to come with proposals. I got more photos to email
  21. Ok, here's the deal. Consider this a listing for a great Tobin Crystal TXM-22 motor. It comes with a camera, but just think of that as a bonus since the camera may not be worth a whole bunch. I've never shot with it, or with the included mags. I bought it off Craigslist from a DP/Operator on the other side of the country about a year or two ago and one technician who looked at it told me some of the design choices in converting this camera to S16 looked risky and shooting with it may not be worth the risk. I've heard this is one of two or three 16S cameras converted to S16/PL mount by Van Diemen in the UK. It seemed to run fine and the previous owner promised he shot lots of footage on it with no problems so maybe I'm just being paranoid. But! It came with this awesome motor. I actually like it better than the final refinement, the TXM-22A, since the "A" model can't run in reverse. Also included are two of the rare 200' mags for the 16S, although as I mentioned, I never tested them, so this is all "AS IS". There are also two 400' 16S mags. Each mag has it's own torque motor, and I was told by the person I bought these from that they've all been upgraded to be 12V compatible. The camera has been upgraded with a 4-pin Cannon (aka XLR) power connector instead of the old Arri 2-pin "banana plug". It's also been fitted with a 80fps max tachometer (I believe taken from an Arri 2C H.S.) There is no case for the four mags. The camera body case is a bit old looking but still latches closed firmly. The foam is a bit of a mess. No power cables or batteries or lenses are included. Selling for only $800!!! Available to see in West Hollywood through this Saturday. After that, get in touch and I can coordinate a time when you can check it out. For convenience, preference will be given if there is a buyer in the LA area who will pick up in person and pay cash. Pictures! http://www.flickr.com/photos/95212445@N02/sets/72157633331237723/ Please send me a private message if interested. Thanks for looking! Rich

  23. Ok, this is my first film shot with motion picture film. I read as much as I could about it a jumped right in. This weekend we filmed a very fun and cheesy, short for a Zombie Film Challenge. I'll be sending the footage to the lab on Tuesday. I had a relatively simple one-location story (my garage) with the lighting you see in the photo. In the back, the large white square on the ceiling to the far right behind the practical is a 250 watt Lowel Pro Light. In front there is a 500 Watt Lowel Omni Light and to the far right a 1000 watt Strand Bambino Fresnel on full. I didn't use my light meter. :( I felt a bit unprepared and rushed. I shot with the 16mm Switar wide open the whole time. I may have shot a few seconds with the Switar preset 10mm but that lens for some reason seems confusing to me even though I've read how to use it. I shot most of the garage scenes on Vison 500T and some on Vision 200T and one on Vision3 200T. My question is do you think I should order 1 - 2 stop Push processing for the garage footage given the film stock used, the lighting conditions and me shooting wide open? Thanks.
  24. I wanted to see if I could get any advice about shooting Kodak 7219 500T film in my Canon Scoopic. The ASA speed maxes out at 380. Will this overexpose everything? Should I only shoot with interior lighting? Could it be used in daylight with an ND filter? I'm new to this, so I'm still learning a lot. Thanks for any advice! - Joe
