  1. Hi, I just want to share link to Paul-Anthony Mille´s posthouse: http://kafardfilms.fr/film-stocks-processing/ He is doing so far, the cheapest work in Europe. 16mm - 400ft = 200 € 35mm - 400ft = 150 € (Prices are for developming, cleaning and 2K/4K scanning) Development is done by Hiventy lab, Paris and Paul is doing scans at his posthouse. I have not met Paul in person yet, I just want to share this cheap and great quality alternative on market ? Many people already know Paul, but for those who not, this is the solution to keep you shooting film

  3. If you had the use of a 35mm film camera with a PV mount on it (such as some old Arris, which are advertised as PL mount but actually have a PV mount if you look closely), what lenses could you use with it? Would you be constrained to just rent from Panavision, or are there lens mount adapters so that you could use non-Panavision lenses?
  4. Hello, I'm new here. I am looking for an Oxberry 35mm controller for an Oxberry 35mm camera used with a film recorder system. The one I have has just died and is pretty old. Picture attached. Perhaps you know of one gathering dust in some post house, looking for a good home? Would love to find a replacement. Thanks, Scott
  5. Hello, all of a sudden today arricam st 4 perf started making this noise - vimeo link attached. Noise comes and goes regardless of magazine being attached to the camera. Noise can appear in a middle of a take and then go away in 30-40 seconds, then come back again. Film transport and shutter seems fine visually and the camera doesn't give any warnings. Nothing was done to the camera yesterday to give us a clue of the cause, except for regular daily cleaning with air. All tests prior to the shoot are totally fine. Negative was examined throughout the day and has no scratches. Noise intensifies significantly when fps changed to 60. When fps slowed down - sound disappears. Tried adjusting pitch but to no result. Anyone came across the same issue? https://vimeo.com/361685396 PASSWORD: noise Best

  10. Hello, Hopefully an interesting question and not pure amateur hour ! More art less matter than the title: Can I achieve the feel and look of native 35mm when shooting on super16 (to blow up) ? Ideally a three part answer: A) Yes or no B) The inherent limits of s16 to 35 vs native 35 C) Bringing out the cook book with the old recipes of how different cameras, lenses, stock etc will produce such an effect and from there to infinity and beyond! As always thank you for your time! You are a treasure trove!

  14. Hello everyone, My friend Fred and I wanted to go out and do a camera test on my ARRICAM. My other friend and her dog were in town visiting at the time, and we thought they had a cool story to tell. One thing led to another, we ended up making this tiny little documentary call Zema. Check it out if you are interested: Shot in one day with only available light. Tested 6fps, 24fps and 48fps on Kodak 5207 and 5219 stock with Zeiss Superspeeds MKIII. Film processed at the Kodak lab Pinewood Studios. Would love to hear your thoughts. Share it if you like it! Cheers, and have a nice day! Tsering
  15. "The number of ads shot on film and processed at Cinelab doubled in 2018 to around 350, and there was an increase in pop promos to 50-plus, many shot on Super 8 and Super 16 as well as 35mm." https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/tech/film-stages-digital-fightback/5135915.article#.XEHdhn_xPh0.twitter So film is far from dead.
  16. Thought a few of you might be interested in my new toy at work; A 35mm Colormaster Prismatic Analyser. Just spent the last 3 hectic days assisting Media Migration Technology (formerly RTI) install our new system. It replaces one of our HFC 300D Hazeltine analyzers that was inoperative and allows me to return to electronic grading of negatives instead of grading them by eye over a light table.
  17. I've been trying to set up my gmt-s to drive a smart slate. the Origin C+ is definitely feeding data to it (show ID, start TC etc), however I've noticed that the FPS is definitely controlled by the tiny dial inside the GMT-S (see attached photo). Does anyone have a diagram or know what dial settings = what base timecode FPS?
  18. Far From The Madding Crowd, directed by Thomas Vinterberg and photographed by Charlotte Bruus Christensen. IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2935476/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt Trailer Synopsis In Victorian England, the independent and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak, a sheep farmer; Frank Troy, a reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood, a prosperous and mature bachelor. I am going to let this post open because I need to be able to articulate a critic in a reasonable language rather than a critic full of WOWs and AMAZING. What I am going to say though is, if you like cinematography and photography, go and see it. Phil probably won't like it because of the "British hand - held indie camera work style" :P but it is very well done in this one and with a bit of analysis on the sequences. For me it has been one of those movies that open your mind and bring it to another level. More soon! Have a good day!
  19. Hi All, I'm still really new to the forum so I hope this is the right place to post this. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on buying 35mm in bulk. I'm still a student and I love having the student discount with Kodak, but is the student deal the best I'm going to find? I'm assuming for fresh stock it probably is. I know a lot of people on here shoot with expired stock, does anyone have any suggestions on where to find expired stock in bulk? Thanks so much, Thomas
  20. Dear Cinematographers, It can be seen in the films of Takeshi Kitano and Kiyoshi Kurosawa, among many others. Hausu, Ran, violent Cop, Hana-Bi, Cure - even Charisma, Ju-On, Ringu, and Pulse (Kairo) - and many others all have the same, distinctly Japanese '80s, '90s aesthetic - and not simply on account of the costumes and set decoration. It is a late night TV special kind of look, with faded tones. Other than that meager description, I cannot further elaborate - the aesthetic is too subtle. Therefore I must ask you who are greatly more experienced than I - was it by means of the cameras, lenses, and filters, or was it primarily the film? I would sincerely like to know for a feature on which I am presently working. Sincerely Grateful, Kurt Cassidy-Gabhart
