  1. Hi everyone, I wanted to get some opinions on what some of your favourite monitors to use on camera are? I am in the middle of researching which monitor would be best for future proofing and using on commercial sets and run and gun documentary type style projects while filming exteriors and interiors. There are a few features I am looking for: Above 1,000 Nits (for using on bright exterior days) HDMI & SDI input & output Colour accurate Offers Waveforms, false colour, histograms, selection of aspect ratios, etc Preferably between 5inch and 7 inch monitors A side question would be does anyone know of monitors like this where you can set the false colour values? This is surprisingly quite rare. Are there any thoughts I should keep in mind before purchasing? Also what are you opinions on monitor recorders such as the new Blackmagic video assist 12g? Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
  2. Hello Community. I am on a project with the Arri 416, and the director wants playback. We have the Atomos Sumo 19 with internal recording. The image is sent with Teradek bolt 500. The analog signal is converted to digital with "Elokuvakonepaja Arri 416 Power Adapter w/ Video converter" Is there a way to automatic trigger recording on the playback monitor when then camera runs? Through the teradek system or some kind of timecode? Thanks!
  3. I purchased an Atomos Shogun Inferno just before the holidays, and didn't take a look at it until after the holidays as I built a new mirrorless camera package. Turns out that the monitor is just too large for the camera ergonomically speaking, at least for me. So I'm selling it and preparing to buy a smaller one. I used to own the original Shogun so I bought the newer Inferno model by default really (I also wanted the 1500nit HDR 10bit screen with ProRes RAW capability). It was only opened and never used, never taken out of my office. All original packaging and items included. The full 2 year USA manufacturers warranty started on November 30, 2018 and is transferrable to the new owner. It's an incredible monitor in perfect new condition, it was only opened up and looked at. The Shogun Inferno sells new at $1295. Obviously I can't sell it for what I paid, but this is not a low ball item, it's the latest Shogun Inferno in unused mint condition. 4K 60P SDI HDMI ProRes RAW Recorder. Please find the eBay link below with more details. Can ship within Canada as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/173765009092?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  4. Hello everybody, I am wondering if anyone has successfully sent a start/stop Lanc command from the Tilta lens control system Nucleus-M to an Atomos recorder. In my case that would specifically be the Ninja Assassin. I reached out to both companies by email and Twitter and neither seems to have run a test, which seems short sighted if you consider the Venn diagram of both markets. Atomos writes: "[…]They are LANC, but it needs a dedicated trigger like this one from Gentles gentles.ltd.uk/lancstudio/lan… Maybe you can ask them about your specific application" Tilta writes: "Thank you for contacting Tilta. We have a lanc cable but we have not tested it with the Atomos. If I hear of more updates I will let you know." So I am curious, do any of you have experience with this specific combo? Thanks!
  5. I was planning on purchasing a Shogun Flame for the my A7RII before I heard of the new release of the Ninja Inferno, they both supply the XLR Phantom power I was looking to add my my recorder (why ninja flame wasnt an option) From what I can see the biggest difference is that the Shogun has a SDI input and output and the Ninja can record up to 60FPS at 4K, neither of which seem apply to the A7RII but I guess would depend on which of the two is more useful for future projects with different cameras. Is there anything I'm not taking into account for A7 series users? I also read today by a B&H staff member that this device shoots 4K 60fps on the sony A7SII however this seems unlikely, but if anyone has any information would be great to hear it.
  6. I currently own a Sony FS5 and in 2 years I plan to upgrade to something more cinema like I suppose. Either that or a higher end Sony camera. Im in a in monitor dilemma. Between the two in the title, I want something that will last me through this camera to the next. The FS5 produces XAVC which I'm ok with quality wise. I usually transcode to prores to edit. But sometimes I find transcoding annoying. If I were to deal with that at least I'd have a nice monitor that allows me to use luts etc. With the Inferno I have the option for raw, prores, and dnxhd. Now... Do higher end cameras these days have options like this? Is it typical most of the time? If I were to upgrade to a camera that has these options the Inferno would be a waste of money. Or do money with reds, arris etc still use recorders?
  7. Hello, I am selling the following items. Payment by Paypal, pictures available on request. Here's my e-mail: olivier@theblacksheep.be Blackmagic Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 + Tilta 15mm support and V-Lock plate + Dtap cable It's HD 10bit Prores 422HQ (or uncompressed 4:2:2) recorder placed inside a dedicated Titla 15mm rods support with a V-Lock plate on the back. Great system, I used it with a FS100/700, C100, D800,... The connector of the SDI output of the Hyperdeck is broken. Everything else works perfectly. On the Tilta plate, only the Dtap is active, the other outputs never worked well (I taped them off to avoid using them). Included is a Dtap to DC cable to power the Hyperdeck from the V-Lock plate (it's the same cable for the BMCC). Price: 200 EUR + shipping (33 EUR to most countries) Blackmagic HDLink Little magic box that converts SDI to DVI/HDMI. Accepts 1DLut. 8. I purchased the sony fs700. it is a great super slow motion camera. I've been waiting for the 6.4 update from Atomos. They said it will support sony raw. however i'm not sure if it is going to support the super slow motion or not. Sony FS700 shoot up to 240fs @2k. please share your thought and opinions.
  9. Hey guys. So I was working with the Atomos Ninja 2 prores recorder for the first time yesterday, alongside the Canon C100. I have some questions that might sound stupid, but I didn't have time to figure out a solution yesterday. So I'm recording with the flat cinema picture style internally on the C100. The Atomos monitor was showing a really contrasty/nasty looking image, and I wasn't sure if that was actually what was being externally recorded onto the SSD. I had no way of finding out if the Atomos was recording into c-log, as my mac (and other people macbooks on set) wasn't reading the Atomos card. We kept getting a message after 30 seconds saying 'card cannot be read', and it then would eject itself from the laptop. If anyone can offer any advice it would be highly appreciated.
  10. Hey all, On the verge of buying an A7s and coupling with an Atomos Blade or Shogun. I had a little play with the camera, but only recorded internally. I noticed, in gradations in shadows, flares, etc... some noticeable banding. The crunchy stuff. I understand it's 8-bit overall... but can someone help me understand how recording via 'uncompressed' HDMI out will improve the image? Isn't it basically H.264, wrapping in Sony's codec nonsense, which gets recorded internally? So going uncompressed -> 422 (at 1080 or 4K) is going to improve... what? Anything noticable? Thanks! Alex
  11. I'm going to at last get a monitor, not just for the bigger display, but for the focus peaking and zebras (to name just a couple of reasons why). Now the first question I need to resolve, is do I get just a monitor by itself (such as one of the SmallHD monitors) or get a combined monitor/recorder (such as from Atomos). Currently my situation is I'm using a Nikon D5200 plus a BMPCC that has just arrived with future upgrading plans of maybe perhaps getting a Panasonic GH4 in a few months from now. (slim possibility it might be instead a Sony A7S, or even a Samsung NX1. Could even be something that hasn't be released yet! I'm in no rush, I'll wait and see) So whatever I'm picking should be suited for what I've got now (& in the near future). Am thinking I've narrowed down my decision to Ninja Blade vs Ninja 2. I'm leaning towards getting the Atomos Ninja Blade (it is worth it over the cheaper Ninja 2???), for a few reasons (let me know if they're good reasons or not! I'm just presuming here): 1) I'm thinking using SSDs could be better than SD cards in the BMPCC (though not being able to record CinemaDNG raw to SSD is a pity) 2) having the ability to tag good/bad takes on set with AtomosOS seems like it could be a big time saver when doing rush edits. 3) no time recording limit with the Nikon D5200 (if I got just a monitor, I expect I'd then get a Blackmagic Design: HyperDeck Shuttle as well. Well, or maybe maybe wait a few months to see if NikonHacker removes the recording time limit on the D5200) But on the flip side the Ninja 2 is significantly cheaper.... so I wonder, is the older Ninja 2's screen satisfactory for pulling focus or is the Blade's high resolution screen going to be a huge bonus here? Probably the biggest point of confusion I have between the two is how the Ninja Blade and Ninja 2 run different version of Atomos OS (with the Blade having the newer version of course), as I can't seem to clearly find any info on what specifically is the benefits of that. (such as around workflow around tagging clips on set and then in post) Thoughts/criticism/suggestions? I'm all ears!
