  3. Hello! I'm new to the forum, but I have made several student films before... I have a question, I want to try and experiment with a Super 8 camera. I don't have any idea what are the best Super 8's out there, but I would like something with an alright zoom, cheap (under $70), and that records good audio... Does anybody know of any cameras in that description? Thanks, Brian
  4. I am looking for a cinematographer. I am filming a pilot episode for my short drama next week Monday and Tuesday in Watford (UK) and next week Friday in Middlesex Hendon (UK). Then the following week beginning the 21st we plan on filming episode 2. We have a few independent production companies interested in this drama. Would you be available? Do you have your own equipment? For more information email me at jevan_buckley@hotmail.co.uk Thank you Jevan
  5. Hi guys, I'm not a cinematographer but I came a cress this beautiful camera, a Debrie 16mm. It has been used by the Swedish Televison company as it says on the case. Comes with 4 film holders (!!??). I want to sell it and you are welcome to come with proposals. I got more photos to email
  6. Hi, I'm a student working on my first short film for a class. I checked out all the equipment I needed to start shooting including a Bolex H16 Reflex movie camera. I put a wind in the camera, went to load the film into it, and realized that it won't run! So now, the camera has sat overnight with a wind in it that I have no way of getting out. And seemingly no one else has had this issue because I couldn't find it in any forums. Can ANYONE please help?!?!?! I'm totally freaking out!
  7. I have the opportunity to purchase a used Arri D-21 from a local rental shop for $6000. I have heard that the D-21 footage has a unique film like quality that surpasses most cameras, even the Alexa. Although it's dynamic range is limited to 11 stops and low lightcapabilities seem to be quite poor. Can those of you who have used the D-21 please share your experiences.
  8. Looking to buy RED Scarlet-X (in new or pristine condition) would prefer package deals but also will accept just brain as well.
  9. I'd love to know your opinions on which is your best 35mm camera. If you want to mention what lenses you prefer working with these particular cameras that's cool too. Cheers Matt

  11. Hello! I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I'm graduating in 3 months and I am looking for a direction to build my career in. I know I want to pursue a career in feature film cinematography. I've shot quite a few things while in film school and have built up a reel with photography portfolio as well. But I know I still have much to learn. Website: Montgomeryimages.com My questions is this: If you want to build a career in cinematography and do this for a living which is better to do? 1. Go to the nearest budding film city and work from the bottom in the Grip/Electrical department. (I am hesitant to do this because I am afraid that all the camera skills I learned will disappear.) 2. Go to the nearest budding film city and work from the bottom in the camera department. (I am hesitant to do this because I am afraid that all the Lighting/gripping skills I learned will disappear.) 3. Go to a smaller city (I.e. a city with not as big a film incentive) invest in your own lighting/camera gear and start taking low budget gigs with the intent on making a name for yourself in that city. "Bigger fish/Smaller pond" (I am hesitant to do this because I am still learning and I feel like I should be learning from others. Don't I need to "pay my dues" as they say?) I am really passionate about cinematography and this industry. When I am on set as , I get in this "flow" where time will just pass and I can be there for hours without breaks. Thank you for any advice that you can offer. Justin Montgomery Montgomeryimages.com
  12. I thought I'd put this here since I didn't seem to get a response in the other section. I'm currently the DoP on a short film called "Circadium" being shot in Rochester. We're shooting on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. I figured since I learn something new every day on this forum, maybe you would all like to see how this film progresses. We shot the first scene of the film on our first day of shooting, which was this morning and afternoon. I'll try to get more framegrabs of future scenes from my director, I just have 2 for now, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Shot on BMPCC, ISO400, ProRes Film, Nikon Speedbooster and Nikon AF-S 17-35/Vintage Macro
  13. Hi! Met Film School in London has got these two weekend-courses that I would love to recommend (filmmaking). The school is located ten minutes walking distance from the station: Ealing Broadway. The famous studio "Ealing studios" is right next to the school. Maybe you can meet up with Daniel Radcliffe after school? Never done anything with filmmaking before? Then you should apply for the course: DSLR for professional filmmaking. It is a weekend course that is designed for those with a working understanding of the principals of cinematography or stills photography that want to apply this knowledge specifically to shooting with digital SLR cameras. You will learn how to get the best from a DSLR camera and how to make use of a selection of accessories specifically designed for video shootings on stills cameras. Through a range of creative exercises you will discover the pros and cons of working with these systems and how to avoid some of the most common pitfalls. Done some filmmaking before? Do you want something more advanced? You should apply for our course: Advanced DSLR for professional filmmaking. This course is designed for students who have previously completed the DSLR for professional filmmaking course, or those with an extensive DSLR and/or cinematography background. This programme covers areas from focus and operating, to sound sync and postproduction workflows. The aim of this programme is to provide you with the fundamental knowledge to shoot and finish DSLR video footage to its highest standard. Apply now on their website: http://www.metfilmschool.co.uk/
  14. Hi everybody. Urgent question. I'm in the process to get Sponsorship for our documentary, we'll shoot with a BlackMagic Pocket Cam. We have 2 options for the Zoom Lenses we'll going to use: 1. Arri-Zeiss Zoom 11-110 S16mm PL Mount 2. Zeiss Compact Zoom CZ.2 28-80 T2.9 We're aware that both are great lenses. The S35 Compact Zoom would demand a Metabones Adapter, but that's no problem at all. I wonder which would you guys pick and WHY? Of course the S35 one is new, and that might be a benefit. Thoughts? Thanks, F

  22. Hi everybody. Am not a sound guy, and my knowledge is very limited. But I'm putting together a nice gear set for my Black Magic Pocket Camera. And now I'm on SOUND. I've bought the Rode NTG2. And now I need advice on a cost-effective PREAMP. I've found the PULSE DUAL CHANNEL AMPLIFIER: http://www.astounded.com/pulse-mpre-dual-dual-channel-microphone-preamplifier.html And might 'sound' crazy, but I've got the idea to use this pedal as it might be a good solution: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Behringer-PB100-Preamp-Booster-Pedal/6BK?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+Behringer&utm_content=Yb7xhCqt|dc_pcrid_39000656599_plid__kword__match__#full-des I wonder which you would advise me. Or any others, since they could be poewered by a 9V battery, making my kit really portable. I'll shoot a documentary, so sound quality is primordial. I know from various posts the sound input in the pocket camera is very low. So need gain/amplifier. Also, I need to buy the CABLES, and I wonder if I buy them BALANCED or not balanced? Thanks everybody. Appreciate if someone could help on this as I have to buy this soon before travelling next week. F

  25. Hi folks I'm shooting a short film in a few weeks and I'm figuring about a car scene with two actor having a dialog while driving, and how I should go about that. First of all, we don't have much of a budget, so a even though a car trailer would be the optimal choice, we can't afford it unfortunately. Any recommendations of how to shoot this? My initial idea was to shoot this infront of a green screen with tracking marks on set, to take advantage of the existing light. By doing so we could use a hand-held camera to add a sense of realism with the background moving (very slightly) in conjunction with the actors and the car. AFTER we've shot infront of the green screen, we go out and shoot the background plates, at the same camera position we used shooting the green screen shots. I believe this could work. Second idea is to shoot the whole scene in front of a rear projection screen. The problem with this I believe is to get a powerful enough projector and not destroying the black when lighting the actors. Also, lighting the car to blend in realistically would also be somewhat of a problem since we can't use any existing light. Third idea is to let the actors drive the car. By far the easiest way to go, but not the safest. Also, they have to be focused on driving the car, so their acting might suffer from that. Any ideas? I would appreciate it a lot! Regards Patrik
