  1. Hello, I search a Super16 Zoom, Canon 8-64mm/7-63mm or Angenieux 7-81mm. Only in Europe. Sent me a PM if you have one to sell. Thank's in advance. Hardev
  2. Hi everyone. I'm shooting a short character doc in Greenland in two weeks. I'll be on a ship/boat most of the time. My camera is C100 with atomos ninja star. Lenses are: Sigma 18-35 1.8 / Canon 24-70 F4 / Canon 70-200 2.8 and I have an old school Olympus 50mm 1.8. Do I need any special filters? And if so, which and what brand. Otherwise any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you :)
  3. Hello everyone, We are conducting a study on ILCs (Interchangeable Lens Cameras) In New York and are looking for people to participate. Currently we need some cinematographers who use DSLR and/or CSC cameras. We especially need CSC users. If you have friends that could also participate please share this information. It will be a 2 hour Focus Group Discussion and if you take part we will compensate your time by $150. A focus group discussion is where we invite a group of people to talk about their experiences with a certain product, in this case ILCs. We would like to speak to you to find out how we can improve upon our products. However, there are a few criteria that you must meet to take part: • Owner and user of an ILC DSLR or CSC; • Aged between 25-50; • Must own at least 2 lenses for main system (excluding bundle/kit lenses); • Must have purchased a lens within the last 2 years. If you meet the above criteria, it is very likely that you will qualify for our study. If interested, please fill out our pre-survey in the link below. If you qualify, we will reach out to you with an invitation to take part in our focus group.https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZP89GMW Many thanks in advance.
  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of a website where you can download or see custom picture profiles for the Canon C100? Regards Gabe
  5. I am selling a brand new Allsteady-7 3 axis gimbal (from TurboAce). It was bought last year, has only been tested 2 times (works flawlessly). I am selling it because for the past year i have devoted my time to photography, thus no longer being in need of some tools that just lye around the house. for details on what it does exactly (it is basically a heavy duty gimbal): http://www.turboace.com/allsteady7.aspx it comes with 2 batteries, charger, monitor arm and balance stand. The item is located in Bucharest, Romania. So i would prefer to sell it in Europe (i guess it would be more convenient for the buyer too). price is 3600$ + transport fees (keep in mind it is new).
  6. Yo guys, could you tell me what you think? These were shot with no budget - The Hymnal - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APQFgRIX3yM Shot with Canon 60d, basic photo lights + diff & neg Only Child - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1IJka9piWk&feature=youtu.be Shot with CAnon60d, tungsten builders lights + small LED + diff + neg Obviously they're not perfect, but I shot them to get something made :) I was going for Eraserhead btw :)
  7. I am selling my mint condition Optitek ProLock Mark II. I used it about a dozen times on a F5 with various Canon EF lenses. This is a great option for using more the affordable Canon DSLR lenses on the F3/F5/F55. The KEY feature of the Mark II is that it is powered by the mount so so power cable is required. New was $1800, asking $1400. Make an offer! Pictures emailed upon request The Prolock EF has electrical contacts to allow powered control over the iris in 1/3 stop increments via keys on the mount. The mount adapter also provides power to IS stabilization and internal focus servos. When used with the Optitek Optitron Lens Controller, precision repeatable remote focus control is also available. The Optitek Prolock EF draws its power directly from the camera mount, so no additional cable is required. The Optitek Prolock EF also features a PL-style clamping lock ring on the Canon EF mount, assuring that the lens will not shift in the lens mount.

  9. Hello, I have the opportunity to get a (super16 converted) Canon 11-165mm (PL) for a very reasonable price. I previously used the 10-100 Angénieux on my Super16 SR2 but was somewhat disappointed with the image quality (in terms of contrast and sharpness). The man at the lab put it simply (but perfectly): "It was ok in the 80s, but it simply doesn't meet today's expectations of focus, contrast and all-over look." I was wondering if anybody had experiences with this lens, or even footage (16mm) that could be shared. I am not sure if testing the lens is of great use to me, since my only reference is the Angénieux and I guess it won't be hard to "beat" it. Will one be able to tell the difference between images from this lens and those aqcuired with primes on Super16mm? Will this lens meet our 'modern' expectations? Thank you and a good day to all.
  10. Hey, I recently bought a Canon C100 and I'm looking for a new shoulder rig for it, looking to mount a V lock battery on it, obviously the camera and follow focus etc, just the normal things really. Does anyone have any advice on what i brand or type of rig to buy and maybe any experience with buying rigs, this is the first one i have bought. Cheers Gabe

  12. I've became really passionate with Cinema in the past 3 years, and before that I was already passionate about photography, for about 6/7 years now. And so I've decided that I'd like to experiment on this journey of filmmaking since it's something I quite enjoy doing and am currently studying. There's a lot of independet DSLR filmmakers now which is amazing. And so I've decided to buy a new camera! From my previous experience with photography, I'm more of a Canon fan since I first started with the classic Canon AE-1. I don't really have a big budget, but I'd like to invest in something that has quality and is worth the price, and that will be able to last me a couple of years until something greater comes along or I am able to afford a better one. Since I am between photography and filmmaking, I was looking for a camera with both. Or would it be better to just invest in a filmmaking camera? (I own a Canon 1000D for photography, but it doesn't capture video.) And if I do go for a DSLR with both photography and video, I thought about Canon 70D, since I can't afford a Canon 5D and I think it might be a little out of my league yet. So please, I'd appreciate some opinions if possible! :)

  14. Hi Guys, I'm strongly considering moving from a set of CP.2 primes to a pair of compact zooms to speed things up on set (I'm generally shooting single-camera narrative, with a bit of commercial work here and there), and I was wondering if people could share their thoughts on the options out there at the moment. We seem a little spoilt for choice with 'affordable' compact zooms at the moment, there's: - Angenieux DPs 16-42mm and 30-80mm - Zeiss Compact Zooms 15-30mm, 28-80mm and 70-200mm - Arri Alluras 15-45mm and 30-80mm - Canon CN-Es 15.5-47mm and 30-105mm Each seems to have their pros and cons: - The Angies are lovely, but top out at 80mm. - The Zeisses cover vistavision, but 15-30mm is a bit limited and would require more frequent lens changes than other options, and as nice as having 28-200mm covered in just two lenses would be, I think I'd feel limited on the (28mm) wide end at times with that combo. - The Alluras seem nice, but a little clean/uninspiring optically for my tastes - The Canons cover the most appealing focal range of the lot, but their combination of warmth and high contrast seems like it would be hard to match with a set of conventional cine primes.
  15. Hello! I have just finished a final cut of my new movie and would to color grade it. I heard something about buying a specialised video card for precise video playback (in terms of color reproduction). I found Blackmagic Shuttle as a relatively cheap (200$) option but I am not sure if it will do the trick? Also, one of my colleagues who knows about grading more than myself told me that I should be connecting Blackmagic shuttle to the minitor via S-Video out, not DVI or HDMI as they are not able to reproduce the colours precisely. Do you guys have any suggestions in whether which connection type should I choose for the best color precision? My movie was shot on a Mark III, H.264 in Full HD. I will rent a JVC Broadcast monitor for my Color grading work.
  16. Selling off my 16mm kit. Includes the following: - Canon Scoopic 16M with 12.5-75mm 1.8 lens - Two (2) Canon S-12 Batteries (1 has fresh, working cells and the other needs service) - Canon S-12 Battery Charger - Canon Scoopic Carrying Case - Cable Release - Filter Set: - Canon 72mm UV 1x Filter - Canon 72mm Skylight Filter - Tiffen 72mm FL-B Filter The camera is in excellent working order. The motor runs smoothly at all speeds and the interior and exterior are also very clean. The glass is free of scratches, haze, fungus, etc. As with any lens, there may be some microscopic dust on the inside of the lens, but nothing that affects image quality in any noticeable way. The one battery was re-celled within the past month and works as new. The battery charger is also in normal working condition. A charged battery will supposedly last for 100 reels of 100' stock. Regarding the filters: I have never used this set of filters. They were included when I purchased the camera and they are not in great shape. I am only including them in case someone can make better use of them than I did. Asking $500 plus exact shipping costs. Please don't hesitate to message me with any questions you may have. Thanks!
  17. Pretty much as the topic states. I've never used the FF5 with the CN-Es but I need to know if it can clear them. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!
  18. Alrighty, looking to purchase a Super 8 camera to get the experience of producing something narrative through the film medium. Ive been shooting alot of HDSLR narratives...but i'm excited to have an opportunity to shoot and edit on film, and really feel the value of each and every frame. Saying that, I realize how niche Super 8 is. It will be expensive, so i've determined that I will try shooting and developing the film myself, editing linearly, and projecting to view. If I do decide to digitize my media, where is the cheapest to get 1 or 2 carts developed and have decent 1080p scan. I live in Ohio, so centers in New England would be better. On to cameras... I want to get the cleanest image I can from Super 8, and generally want to treat the process as much like shooting 16mm as possible. That means that I will try to manually expose every scene I shoot...how consistent is that to do compared to HDSLR shooting? Also, whats the deal with stocks? How does the 100D differ from the 200D? Where does asa rating come into play? Generally what are some tips for dealing with tri x? Finally, which camera would be best to invest in? I've been seeing the Nizo S800 and S560 models and Canon's 518sv models. Are these "good" cameras? Which has better glass? Are there any that are gonna be better/more bangy for bucky for what I want to be shooting (Alot of tripod)? Also, I am kinda mystified by the price differences between cameras. Does it all come down to features, because it certainly appears like the huge price differences have to be coming from somewhere else. Perhaps manufacturing standards? Thanks for any responses...I know I have a lot of questions, and I really appreciate any help that you can give me:) Looking forward to jumping in, Jackson Clark
  19. Hello everyone. Six months ago, I arrived in Los Angeles from Moscow, where for 6 years he worked in television. Now actively learn the language and do event videography. Much before moving sold, so not removed on an expensive camera. I would like to get acquainted with working in California. My work can be viewed:
  20. So I'm on a project that is based around multirotor helicopters. Needless to say I have a lot of gopro footage coming my way. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or leads to good resources on matching gopro footage and cinema log footage in the grade I would be much appreciated! Here is what I've been capable of so far. Ignore the last 18 minutes it's black video there was an encoding error. http://youtu.be/Isge70aoLtE
  21. Selling the Canon 1D Mark IV w/ PL Mount. I am using the Epic now more so I will no longer be needing this. Wanted to see what offers I got on here before I went to Ebay. No set price, so shoot me an offer. Thanks
  22. I have been having an issue when color grading lately with the C300. After the grade, most blacks that are below 40 IRE seem to be artifacting like crazy on youtube. Whereas I don't see this from other people's work. Ive tried these encode settings in adobe media encoder, Quicktime MOV, h264 55'000 kbps 1920 x 818 Quicktime MOV, h264 35'000 kbps 1920 x 818 Quicktime MOV, h264 25'000 kbps 1920 x 818 Quicktime MOV, Prores 444 1920 x 818 But all of them just aren't cutting it and I dont know what I'm missing. My blacks are generally not brought down to 0 because the director wants a low contrasty look and some scenes were shot very dimly with only one LED to light the scene. On the other hand, we've lit darker scenes with several 1k's and Litepanel LEDs and while the highlights and midtones held up the blacks still artifacted hard. Here is an unlisted link to a test video I made. Please don't share outside of the community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d3WQT4hcN4 Any and all info would be much appreciated!

  24. Hello, I've recently purchased a Canon auto zoom 814 (not the electric version) with two rolls of Ektachrome 160 from Ebay with a guarantee that it was completely functioning. I loaded in the correct voltage Wein Cell batteries for the exposure meter and AA batteries and decided to load in one of the rolls of film to shoot a test roll. I made sure I put the cartridge in the correct way and securely, and when I pressed the shutter lever it seemed as though it was filming. However, when I checked the footage counter the little needle didn't move at all, making me worry that none of my film is actually being exposed. I tried opening the compartment and taking out the cartridge and putting it back in, which I thought worked because I swore the needle moved a little when I pressed the lever, but I went out today to shoot and the needle didn't move at all the entire time I shot. Could the dial just be broken and the camera actually be exposing the film or is there some other issue with my camera/ none of the footage actually getting exposed?? Thanks!
  25. Would it be a good Idea to pull out my student loans to buy the new red scarlet dragon? Currently I'm in my 4th of year of college( it's going to take me 5 years to graduate). I go to a small school in Missouri with 12,000 students and the film department at the school has been weak and disappointing thus far. So almost everything I know about film making and cinematography has been stuff I've had to learn on my own I started cinematography last year and I'm still learning lots of new things about filming/ color grading weekly. 8 months ago I was shooting all my videos on a gopro, then I decided that I need to upgrade my gear if I want to seriously pursue cinematography so I bought a Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Now I want to upgrade my gear again but this time I am going for the best. So I decided to save up and get the Red Dragon Scarlet. I have the great fortune of having College completely paid for. I am really good at track and field so my athletic scholarship pays all my fees and covers my costs of living. So my plan is to just pull out all my student loans for 2 years so I can get a Red Dragon. Personally I don't like having anything hold me back in life. My mindset from playing sports so long has made me become obsessed with the things I do. For the past 3 years I've been able to jump higher and further than everyone in the state of Missouri and I get mad if anybody beats me or get close. I want to aim to be the best at cinematography also. I get angry and frustrated when things are not perfect or close to perfection on video. Ultimately I want to know if this would be a good way to turbo start and give me a great beginning to a life and journey of being a cinematographer? The last video I shot:
