  1. There is this old one ... https://variety.com/2009/digital/features/is-it-really-cheaper-to-shoot-in-digital-1118008522/ And a 2015 indie experience https://www.moviemaker.com/archives/moviemaking/cinematography/film-v-s-digital-is-the-expense-of-shooting-on-film-a-misconception What's your thoughts generally (not only on the articles...)
  2. I’m intending to do some double exposures on 16mm film with an Arri 416 camera. The most rudimentary method I could think of is just expose the entire roll (one stop underexposed, or however I feel is appropriate for the subject), make notes of the contents, and then reload the same film to shoot the second layer. But sometimes it would be really convenient to be able to just «rewind» the film right away to do the second layer. As far as I can see from the manual, there is no such function in the camera. I guess you could open the mag and do it manually, but it sounds cumbersome. Anyone done this and know a good method that I haven’t though of?

  12. Hey there! I just created a small piece regarding film (photography) I'm looking for critique on this piece. I realized that when I scaled my C4K from the pocket 4k to a UHD timeline, some of my clips towards the end) apparently weren't scaled correctly so a white line pops up on the right side of frame. (Lame because it doesn't show up in premiere's editing windows) Also banding is insane with YT compression so a couple of shots you notice it quite a bit. (Tried to minimize it with grain added) Anyways, thanks for stopping by and drop any tech questions you have below as well!

  16. Im about to shoot a short film on 16mm, and were gonna use back projection (the projection itself would be digital, and its material shot on digital camera). I would appreciate any advice since i never did this. my concerns are mostly two: 1. whats the best way to expose/ measure the projection? 2. should I take any special precautions to avoid flickering? or will it be fine just as long as the camera and the projector are set to the same frame rate? if i plan to use hand cranck, I imagine there is no way to avoid variable flickering, right? Thanks Daniel
  17. 15 Minute Pit Stops In 2025, it will only take 15 minutes to recharge your car. In these circumstances, what would you do with those 15 minutes to recharge yourself while you recharge your car? Send in your pitches for a 3 to 5 minute original short film that tells the story about a future where you have 15 minutes to yourself to do whatever you want while you wait for your car to recharge. A total of 3 pitches will be chosen to make into short films. If your pitch is one of the winners, you will receive a production budget of $15,000 to produce and deliver your short film in three weeks. Your pitch should be in English and include an original title, a written script, a concept explanation, a budget breakdown of your proposed 3 to 5 minute film, your biography, and links to your previous work. Bids may also include visuals such as story boards, mood boards, or sample images. The finished films will be promoted through a paid social media campaign and live on BASF’s website.
  18. Hi guys Long time reader, first-time poster on the forum. Recently shot a short film, you can see here: https://vimeo.com/322197103 Would love some feedback. For context, I shot it as a one-man band, on Alexa Mini with Zeiss Superspeeds and glimmer glass. A lot of neg fill, 2 x astra litepanels and 1 x litepanels gemini.
  19. Hello , Is anyone selling an arricam lt? Please send me a pm if it's the case. Thanks! Kimon
  20. I'm going to shoot a short silent horror film this fall and I'd love to capture the feel of an old print that's been dragged through Hell and back. My two questions are: what would be the best frame rate to use and how can I get a blown out look like you'd see in a film from the very early 1900's? Should I overexpose the film or ask the lab to mess with the print?
  21. I am getting yellow lines on my film, I checked the wheels they seem fine they spin, is it the gate ? is it because i shot in expired film ? i hate it i shoot a 400ft roll and the yellow line is present in the whole film. i wanna know whats wrong with my CP-16r, has anyone experienced with this problem before? video:
  22. Hey Everyone, I'm looking for a 16mm film synchronizer, if anyone has one they would be willing to part with cheaply. I don't need anything fancy, and a 2 bank is fine. Just need something that works. Let me know if anyone has one they would be willing to get rid of. Best, Derick
  23. For sale is a gorgeous Ekran Anamorphic Zoom lens, 40-120mm F2.5 T3.1 35mm format with PL-mount (model number 35OPF19-1A, serial number 850003). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ekran-Anamorphic-Zoom-40-120mm-F2-5-T3-1-PL-mount-35OPF19-1A-Russian-35mm-Lens-/182554997311
  24. Hi! I've been hunting around to find some interesting expired film stocks to shoot on. I found a lot of 16mm 500T Vision 2 - "ESTAR" base for sale. I did some research and found some Kodak write-ups about this ESTAR base stock - polyester stock, interesting... The only film I've ever shot entire projects on is 35mm and 16mm Vision 3 (as well as experimenting with some expired Vision 2 stocks). I've never heard of this ESTAR base film before. Any one have any knowledge on this? Also, any idea how it might hold up? - seller says it was stored cold and is factory sealed. Of course, I'd test it ahead of any real shooting, but I'm curious if any one has any idea if it's worth it before I buy the lot? Could be fun to do it regardless as it is selling for fairly cheap! Attached is a photo of the label - curious that it doesn't even have a film code starting in "7." Could this be an experimental stock?
  25. Hello everyone, I've managed to lose my 1014 XL-S battery cover, meaning I can't use the camera. First question, is does anyone have a junk 1014 XL-S I can buy to use for parts? Second question is does anyone know whether the battery covers for any other models are interchangeable? Eg the 814 or 514 XL S? I know the 1014 standard isn't a fit (I think). Thanks for any help! D
