  1. Hello Everyone, My name is Alex Mitchell and I am an aspiring camera-assistant hoping to hit the ground running after I graduate from my film school (FSU Film) in December. I've spent over 3,000 hours on set working both ATL and BTL jobs on professional and film school sets. I chose to specialize in camera-assisting because it combines my best qualities into one job: a deep passion and knowledge of cameras and lenses, appreciation for capturing beautiful moments (in focus!), and endurance. I read the blogs on this site and I love all the knowledge you all share, and I was hoping if you could share with me some of your knowledge. I plan on moving out to L.A around January 2014 after I graduate and start working as a freelance camera assistant. I already have some connections through my film school but I would like to work someplace where I can connect with other professionals too. I would like to land an internship/job working at Panavision or any other camera rental house. I know they don't just hand out those jobs, but I'm determined to get one. If you have any type of advice for someone like me please let me know. I have a couple of months before I move out there, so I am just gathering information that will help me down the road. My resume is on my website if you'd like to check it out and I'll attach it onto this thread too for your convenience. Thank you for you time and I look forward to your responses. alexmitchellfilm.wix.com/apictureisworth Film Resume.pdf
  2. Hi everyone, My name is Vatsala and I am graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (F.T.I.I.) early in 2014 where I'm currently studying Cinematography (a three year post graduate program). I'll be moving to the SF Bay area immediately after I finish school. Once here, i shall be looking for jobs as a cinematographer and have several questions in this regard. I'm uncertain about where to start, so listing immediate questions here and seek your guidance: 1) a) How do I surface on the difficulty & opportunity scale in terms of opportunities to cinematography jobs as a foreign national? b ) Where do fresh cinematography graduates like myself typically start in the US - assisting/ camera operating/ 2nd units? Or does it depend from person to person? 2) What are the typical visa categories that would apply to me if I were looking for a job in this sector? Currently I'm visiting SFO on a dependent visa, which continues until i start working - how does that place me in the visa context while looking for a job? 3) a) What's the norm for foreigners people starting out here - do people freelance or get on to payrolls? b ) Does freelancing make it difficult to get sponsored by the employer especially since I'm not a citizen & competing with US citizens + fresh grads from the USA? 4) Are there any forums & people (online and on ground) that I can immediately connect with while I am visiting the Bay Area? 5) While I am here I would like to go and observe a camera crew at work. What's the best way to proceed on that front? I would really appreciate any help and information. Thanks so much for reading. Warm Regards, Vatsala
  3. All, I'll be brief, i'm essentially looking for a film making graduate that might be interested in making a short film documentary about a motorcycle build. I belong to a partnership of 5 motorcycle enthusiasts in Camden Town that share a workshop and reinvent vintage motorcycles. The aim of this next project is to take a Triumph Bonneville from 2008, strip it down and reinvent it... this time as a classic motorcycle. That is to say, a motorcycle with character. The workshop is located underground underneath an old artist's studio. The two people building the bike will consist of myself (Raoul) and the client (JT). Were both in our mid twenties and work full time. The idea behind the documentary is to capture drama and energy of building a custom motorcycle in the spirit of Matt Machine (). Requirement: First of all I should make it clear that the project will not be paid. As film maker you will be given total control over the film making and given full credit. It is quite simply an opportunity for you to make a unique short film. Dates available (between end of May and beginning of June 2013). If you are interested, then please drop me an email at r.mooyaart@gmail.com and we'll meet for a coffee. Looking forward to hearing from you. WE
