  1. Good day film folks. Recently B&H had a special where they advertised a sale on the new Litepanels Gemini 2x1 bicolor LED soft panel. This is Litepanels answer to the popular but expensive Arri Skypanel. You can check out the comparisons online and I decided it would be a good choice for a more affordable price. I went for the US plug option which has a manufacturer product code 940-1301. B&H currently sells this item for $4,512.50. On their special which appears to have had ended, they sold the product for $3,194.85. Thats a huge savings. So I jumped on the chance and bought 2. I have my receipt and invoice from B&H and they both state that the product is 940-1301. I went to register the product and discovered that my lights were labeled by Litepanels as 940-1001. Has anyone else bought these lights from B&H under this special? Whats your product code? Has anyone else bought this product at the full price? And if you have, whats your product code on the back of you light? I ask because I have found that product code on other websites, namely eBay and at Texas Media Systems and on both sites they refer to the code 940-1001 as B-stock - refurbished. I have written Litepanels and expect an answer shortly about what that code means. I will update when I get that answer. Of course I also have to have words with B&H but I am doing my research first. In the meantime I am very curious if anyone else has had this experience. bless JAH
  2. RocketJump Film School, an online filmmaking community started by YouTube sensation Freddie Wong, has partnered with Vitec Videocom, the Broadcast Division of The Vitec Group, to educate a new generation of filmmakers and content creators with top-of-the-line production equipment, including Videocom’s NAB 2016 product offerings. As a sponsor of the school, Videocom has supplied RocketJump with professional production gear from industry-leading brands, including Sachtler, OConnor, Litepanels, Anton/Bauer, Paralinx, SmallHD, and Autocue. Headed by Dean Lauren Haroutunian with creative producer Cherish Chen and director/editor Joey Scoma, RocketJump Film School provides unique, engaging, high-quality online video tutorials on all facets of filmmaking from directing, editing and sound, to cinematography, screenwriting, and more. Launched in May 2015, the film school delivers free, readily accessible content to help ambitious students improve their familiarity with every element of filmmaking, including the equipment. The online format has been overwhelmingly popular and boasts over 200,000 subscribers with close to 10 million views since it began. “A core tenet of the film school is offering easy-to-follow demonstrations that ultimately encourage and promote hands-on experience. Having Vitec Videocom as a sponsor makes this a reality for us and has opened up more possibilities in shaping the school, both on and offline,” said Haroutunian. “Their support makes our mission of creating an empowering community for contemporary filmmakers all the more attainable.” Best-in-class brands from Videocom are contributing first-rate equipment for this sponsorship, including bestselling industry staples like the OConnor 1030 system, as well as new product offerings that will be featured at NAB 2016 such as the new Astra Soft Bi-Color LED and the new Anton/Bauer CINE series batteries. Sachtler and OConnor are delivering various tripods and fluid heads, including the 1030 system which delivers seamless transitions from heavier to lighter payload camera set-ups. For lighting, RocketJump will also be using Litepanels Astra 1x1 LED panels in addition to the Astra Soft Bi-Color LED, powered by Anton/Bauer’s new CINE series batteries. Paralinx is providing a Triton and Arrow-X, which offer uncompressed wireless video transmission up to 300ft and 700ft, respectively. And for ultimate convenience, Autocue is contributing portable iPad prompters, while SmallHD is contributing 501 on-camera monitor production kits. “We are thrilled to be a part of RocketJump Film School,” said Tobias Keuthen, Director, Global Products, Vitec Videocom. “We’ve been big fans of RocketJump for a long time so when we were given a chance to support their education endeavors we jumped at the opportunity. This allows us to be at the forefront of partnering and educating a whole new generation of filmmakers and aspiring cinematographers. I cannot think of a better place to learn new techniques using some of the industry’s best equipment.” Watch Freddie Wong talk about RocketJump Film School:

  4. Hilio D12 and T12 Redefine the Power of LED Illumination Litepanels NAB Booth #C6025 (CHATSWORTH, Calif.) Litepanels®, a Vitec Group brand and premier provider of LED lighting for the broadcast and production industries, will premiere its new Hilio D12 (daylight balanced) and Hilio T12 (tungsten balanced) high light output panels at NAB 2014. The innovative panels provide the light quality, versatility and intensity of an open source fixture, while offering all of the benefits of Litepanels' proprietary LED fixture design. The Hilio D12/T12 fixtures were designed by Litepanels to augment the lighting requirements of broadcast studios, as well as motion picture, episodic television, and commercial location shoots. The versatile panels emit a raw, narrow beam that provides high intensity for long throws. This intensity can also be harnessed and shaped with an array of available accessories to light an exterior, wash a set with soft light, or illuminate a cyc wall or green screen. Eliminating the need for external dimmers, the fixtures feature Litepanels' smooth dimming, from 100 percent to zero with no noticeable color shift, and are flicker-free at any frame rate or shutter angle. The panels also offer an integrated DMX module, with readily available and affordable RJ45 Ethernet connections for remote dimming control via any standard DMX512 protocol device. With no need for a heavy ballast or cabling, the incredibly energy efficient Hilio D12/T12 fixtures draw only 350 watts of electricity, comparable to a 2K Tungsten Par in terms of output. The consistently color accurate, long life LEDs provide years of service without the need for traditional lamp replacement, and they emit no UV or infrared wavelengths. Each panel contains a microprocessor operated, active cooling system, which increases manageability and lowers temperature control costs. The Hilio D12/T12 fixtures feature a removable, external power supply with convenient mounting bracket and optional accessories that include a stand mounted plate and an extension power cable. The Hilio D12/T12 panels come complete with integrated slots to hold color and diffusion gel filters and Litepanels' new NanopticTM lenses. The Nanoptic lenses spread and shape the light in circular, horizontal or vertical patterns and essentially convert the powerful open source into a soft light or broad directional fill. The rear of the unit features an LCD display and a multi-functional control with a menu-based button interface. An SD card slot is also built-in to easily facilitate future software upgrades. The user-friendly fixtures include a Standard Yoke with Junior Pin to enable easy mounting and positioning. "Our new Hilio 12 series is a great compliment to our Sola and Inca LED Fresnel lines," commented Chris Marchitelli, Vice President of global marketing for Litepanels. "The Hilio D12 and T12 provide a big, broad wash of light, and they are an ideal lighting source for interiors and protected exteriors. In combination with our new Nanoptic lenses, these fixtures are a real breakthrough in lumen output and flexibility. This pair of panels sets a new standard and continues to move our LED solution forward for our customers." The complete optional accessories set for the Hilio D12/T12 includes the 5-piece CTB or CTO Gel Set with Gel Bag, the 4-piece Nanoptic lens set, an eight foot power supply extension cable, and a power supply stand/mounting bracket.
