  1. Hi everyone – long time reader, first time poster! I'm considering purchasing an Angenieux 18.5mm Type R2, and was previously under the assumption that the mount was Mitchell BNCR. The lens' owner, however, has just informed me it's not a BNCR mount but BNC. Apparently, these mounts are slightly different. As I don't know my way around a Mitchell (or anything Mitchell, for that matter), and as I've not got the budget to rehouse the lens, I'm wondering whether a BNC lens (in particular this Angenieux) would fit an EF to BNCR mount adapter. I've been unable to source an EF to BNC adapter, so if I'm out of luck with the BNCR adapter I'm wondering if there might be other solutions to the problem. Happy New Year, Christian
  2. The mags are old obviously, but are in proper working condition. One is a model S10, and the other is model S10B. Here's the ebay listing for more photos and details. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184708280797
  3. For Sale: MItchell Light Weight Geared Head - Black. I purchased this 3 speed geared head directly from Panavision L.A. - it was in brand new condition and has seen little use since then. The action on the gears is extremely smooth - no slop at all. Panavision did their usual dilligence and have slightly modified the head for smooth operation. This Mitchell Model #135R500 with built in tilt plate comes with: Head # 276, 150mm flat base tie down, 2 wheels, Riser, Panavision shipping case and original owners manual. I am the only owner. This head has been well cared for as you can see from the photo. Price: $5200. + shipping Randall Love - Director of Photography
  4. Comes with: Innerspace Cases CUSTOM flight case in grey w/black stripe ($1000 custom case) 1 right panhandle sliding dovetail with large quick-release plate pedestal + 150mm ball base adapters The head is native mitchell mount, and comes with attachable 150mm and pedestal bases. Attach securely with 6 allen screws. You can see the 150mm base attached, and the head mounted on a 150mm sachtler tripod. Here's some product info: The MK2 can counterbalance a wide variety of cameras--from the smallest HDV camera to a fully loaded RED, ALEXA, F65, or C300 system. Its counterbalance system is an evolved version of Cartoni's "wing" system, providing superior performance throughout the +/- 90 tilt range, with perfect stops at any angle. The frictionless variable fluid modules provide a wide range of fluid drag for perfectly smooth and precise movement, while the ergonomic, user-friendly knobs are conveniently located and easy to reach. The MK2 also features a flat Mitchell standard base and an available 150mm bowl converter to make the MK2 suitable for all leg options and dollies. The head is supplied with two telescopic pan bars, standard quick-release sliding camera plate, (Eurostyle plate optional) illuminated bubble level and digital readouts for drag and counterbalance settings. $4500 Located in LA
  5. Hey everyone! First time poster and relatively new member to the boards. Was trying to rack my brain around on this and figured it'd be worth a shot asking here. I'm preparing to direct/shoot a music video next weekend, and I need some advice on choosing a diffusion/beauty filter set. Plan is to shoot on the Alexa with a K-35 25-120mm Macro Zoom (as well as a 14mm Canon Optex if we really need the width). Utilizing HMIs and some Astras for the lighting package. I wanted to give the video an older film feel to the image, which I'm aiming to do via the lenses and using harder lighting via the larger HMIs. I also wanted to use some beauty/diffusion filters for the last touch, since I'm a big fan of in camera filtration as opposed to post. I'm currently torn between two choices, either the Soft FX series or the Mitchell Diffusion series. Now there are a TON of videos online which help show the effects of Soft FX, and to be frank it seems like a great choice for flattering the talent, while still mainting some sharpness (not to mention they don't seem to go super crazy with the halation around sources in frame). But since I wanted to give an older feel to this video, I thought about maybe going with some older vintage filters. This led me to learning about the Mitchell Diffusion series (Strengths A-E). I like the idea of using older diffusion filters, but I'm worried because for the life of me I cannot find any relevant info online about them, save for a really unsatisfactory test on Vimeo. I emailed Stan at the Filter Gallery here in NYC about it, and he mentioned that Soft FX has oval shaped lenslets, while the Mitchell series have a ripple effect. Has anyone ever used the Mitchell diffusion before? I'd love to hear some first had experiences with them, or if possible see something shot with them. Even some screen grabs will do. I'm going on Wednesday to check them out in person but I wanted to see if anyone here had any relevant info to share. Thanks!
  6. Hi you all :) I'm trying to figure out the exact timing of the mirror vs. the registration pins in camera using Mitchell type of movement and 170° shutter angle. My camera is a Russian made Soyuz US3N so it is not a exact copy but close enough to some mitchells. Generally, when are the reg pins supposed to engage in Mitchell movement and when they should retract compared to the mirror edge? I have to be able to time this myself every now and then because of lubricating etc. so can't ship it to a camera tech. The movement should be in factory specs so no need to adjust it, so... Are the pins supposed to engage just a tiny bit before the shutter opens so that the pins retract a moment before the shutter closes for film transport and the claws start to transport film a tiny bit before the shutter is fully closed, or... ...are they supposed to engage at the exact moment the shutter opens so that the shutter can fully close before film transport begins but the tiny moment the shutter opens may have some instability when the pins are centering the film, or... ...is the timing in the video about right? to me it looks like it is just a tiny bit off and the pins should engage just a tiny bit quicker after the shutter has passed to ensure the stability of the start of the exposure. but am I then risking instability at the end of the exposure? This is pretty difficult trial and error to time because of the wormgear like gears used in the camera but I can live with a little off timing  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BITn7xuDses I also asked this at Motion Picture Technology group on Facebook, let's see what they think...
  7. I have a few random mags for cameras I don't own. They're untested but look to be pretty clean inside. Mechanically everything looks to be in good shape but they haven't been tested. Make offers! Shipping would be extra (or if you want to give me your UPS or FedEX account for shipping, we can do that). They're located in Boston so if you're local you can pick up in person or come check them out.
