  1. Hello Everyone, I just released my latest short film, POKERS, that I wrote, directed, and co-starred in, along with my producing partner and DP (who is also a member of this forum). It's a 9 minute short about four men sharing their perspectives on their shared occupation during a game of poker. It was shot on 16MM Fujifilm Eterna 250 via Arri HR3 HS in Super 16. I would love it hear any feedback and criticism. I am still very new to filmmaking and look forward to learning and growing. I hope you enjoy it:
  2. I came across this teaser for a documentary by Alexandre Favre called Bolex: The Last Employee and thought the readers of this forum might appreciate it. https://vimeo.com/150185992 The contemporary footage was shot using a Bolex modified for super 16, and the audio was recorded on a Nagra. The historical footage and commentary is interesting. Particularly the bit about small camera assembly lines being staffed by women, who were presumed to be more agile than men. The level of precision and craftsmanship that went into these machines is pretty inspiring. I'm looking forward to seeing the full length documentary when it's released.

    Next step?

I currently have a Krasnogorsk K3 (converted to S16) and a Canon Scoopic 16M. I've used both several times over the last couple of years and have learned a lot with them. I've managed to get some good results, however, although there are things about both that I like, they each have things about them that I dislike. K3 + Rugged, cheap, large choice of M42 lenses available, Super 16, stable speed control, compact, reflex - Wind up, tricky to load, light leaks, Standard Meteor lens 'soft' (i.e slightly out of focus) at widest settings, unstable registration, reliability issues 16M + Easy to load and use, electric, affordable (but not cheap), reliable, good registration, reflex (but dim in low light), good macro, not too bulky, - Fixed lens - soft at widest setting, speed noticeably unstable (probably fault with my camera), dim reflex at higher f stop The common problem with getting sharp images with wide angle views is the biggest problem I have with these. So, I'm still looking for my 'perfect' camera. I'd like a hand held, reflex, electric camera with changeable lenses. Hopefully easy/quick to load. Super 16 preferred, but not essential. I'm also on a limited budget, maximum £1500 I guess. Two possibilities I can think of are: Beaulieu R16 and Bolex EBM (£££?) I nearly got a R16 with an (Angineux?) motorised lens, but I was put off the motorised lens due to reliability and dislike of controlling lenses with motors rather than manually. I don't know much about either of those, would they be better choices or do they have their own issues that cause user's problems? Have I missed other possible options that may be suitable? Thanks for any help you can give.

    Video Tap

Hey, Long time reader.. Needing a little help to wrap my head around a possible video tap option for my ikonoskop SP-16 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/JURGENS-COLOR-VIDEO-TAP-35mm-Arri-35-3-C-Mount-Arriflex-SONY-CCD-Camera-WORKS/182862271583?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 Could anyone let me know a little more about this product? I'm wondering about power options, also just a general understanding of how it works in relation to a C-mount camera (how does the CCD work in relation to the film stock, where is my light going??? Also, Anyone see any reasons this won't work for a video assist for my NON-reflex Camera.) Really looking to get this camera reflex without paying $6000USD for the Duall Conversion. Thanks! Bob!
  9. SALE ITEM and LOCATION CANON 7 - 63 w/ PL mount located in Bangkok, Thailand DESCRIPTION serial No:: 911006D This lens was part of a kit for S16 I have been collecting over the years, and it was no small task to source it in these conditions (I had to go through many duds before getting to this jewel). The Canon 7 - 63 really needs no presentation, it's the successor the much acclaimed "The Hurt Locker" zoom lens Canon 8 - 64. Most likely it's one of the best zoom lenses ever made for Super 16. Shall you want to dig it further, have a look here http://cinematechnic.com/resources/optics_for_super-16 Focus, zoom and aperture run smoothly all the way, no sticky bits. Both the front and the back glass have no fungus, no scratches, no marks. I can spot some dust here and there in the elements but nothing I would consider worthy of consideration. Cosmetically please see pics. I would personally rate this lens to be in excellent cosmetic conditions, especially considering its age. Lens has been always kept in an A/C, non-smoking room. Hard to let this baby go, it really is a RARE item - but I need to make different business investments. TERMS PAYPAL OR BANK WIRE ONLY. Buyer pays shipping, fees & import duties (if any). I have tons of positive feedback on Ebay shall you want to look me up. Item ships Worldwide. PRICE 4500$ for the lens CONTACT PM me please IMAGES https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yn...3hMknbMAKnW89h
  10. Hello, Newly graduated cinematography student is looking to buy Bolex camera (SB, SBM, EL) at a reasonable price. I'm interested in S16, but because of budget send me message if you have regular 16 Bolex  Or veeeeery cheap Arriflex SR2. Location: Belgrade, Serbia (but I have friend of mine in Berlin, Germany) PM.
  11. I'd like to find a 2-perf, 3-perf or Super 16 camera. My budget is $3,000-5,000. My first choice would be for a 2-perf with a lens, second choice is a 3-perf with lens and third choice is a Super 16 with a lens. My range on price is with the expectation that a 2-per or 3-perf with a lens is going to be on the high end of my budget while a Super 16 with no lens should be at the low end. Of course if someone has an Arricam ST 2-perf with some Cooke lenses they like to sell me for $3,000, I'd be happy to be proven wrong on my price estimates. :D Seriously, if I'm way off on my price expectations, please let me know. If you have a film camera that's been sitting unused or under utilized, please consider dusting it off and sending it to a good home. I have a short I'd like to shoot in December with kids from the local theater club and crew from the local University. If we can pull that off, we've got plans for a feature to shoot in June.
  12. Hey guys! Looking to buy a standard 16mm or Super 16 kit. With or without lens. Budget of around $5k Shoot me a PM if you have anything available.
  13. Here's a Bayonet Bolex... with carrying handle and motor option... https://www.ebay.com/itm/292595881532?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2648
  14. Hello all you Bolex gurus out there... OK, I have a Bolex H16 REX 5 that threads nicely and seems to be running well. The camera maintains the loop while running with out a take-up reel... But as soon as the take-up reel used the loop begins to be lost. But note not all take-up reels cause this... I switched out take-up reel and some reels work fine and some do not. and it seems to be consistent. any ideas on what causes this to happen? Arthur!

  16. Anyone have an Arri/Zeiss Ultra16 18mm they'd be interested in selling?
  17. I've recently purchased my first S16 camera (Aaton XTR Prod) and I'm looking to make an investment in a zoom lens I can use for allround purposes and no-budget projects that I can still use on productions where we have the budget to rent e.g. Ultra16s, Super Speeds, S4s/SK4s - Hoping someone in here can give me some advice on the topic. I'm interested in a zoom that has the following properties: PL Mount Close focus of 0.75m or closer Has at least 12-30mm range Preferably ~T2.8 or faster Covers S16 fully For these requirements I've narrowed my options down to either: Angenieux HR 11.5-138 T2.3 Angenieux HR 7-81 T2.4 Cooke 10.4-52mm T2.8 (CVK) Cooke 10.8-60 T3* (CVK) Cooke 10-30 T1.6 (CVP) Cooke 9.5-53 T1.6 (CVT) Cooke 10.6-52 T1.65 (CVT) I didn't include the Canon Zooms as I don't feel like they give me the look I am going for. I also didn't include Zeiss Vario Sonnars in the list because their close focus is too far. But they may be workable with a diopter. I'm afraid of losing sharpness however. Any thoughts? Any other lenses that I might have missed in my research are much appreciated. Do you have any advice on these lenses. And which do you prefer?
  18. FS:ZEISS HIGH SPEED SUPER 16 (9.5mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm, 50mm)
  19. For the purposes of future testing for a project, I would like to get some opinions on the various characteristics of some Super 16mm primes. Flares, bokeh, sharpness, contrast, color temperature, the works. Lenses in particular I would appreciate information on are... Zeiss Super Speed Mk 1 Zeiss Super Speed Mk 2 Optar Illumina s16 Cinema Products Ultra T Any other prime sets that have both 16mm & 25mm focal lengths. I'm really only interested in prime lens sets, no single primes like the Angenieux 5.9mm or any zoom lenses.
  20. Dear Cinematographers, Was intending to shoot film and lens tests with a super 16 Krasnogorsk-3, in preparation for a project done on an Aaton XTR PROD. Now is there any way that I might use the M42 mount lenses for the Krasnogorsk (namely, Zenitar 16/2.8; Pentax Super-Takumar 50/1.4; &c.), later on for the Aaton? Do they have M42 to Aaton adapters? Someone else posed this question awhile ago, but they never received any clear answers. Sincerely Grateful, Kurt Cassidy-Gabhart

  24. Hello all! I'm new to this website and am excited to make my first post! I am going to be working on a project soon and want to shoot super 16mm. I have been looking at cameras online to buy and have come across some decently priced Aaton XTRs from various countries outside the U.S. My concern is that some sellers have mentioned that they are PAL cameras. Can anyone tell me if this will matter when shooting the film? I have heard mixed opinions about it just referring to frame, rate in which case I can adjust the camera's frame rate. Others have told me that I will constantly have flicker due to electricity in the US. Will I be able to use the camera or should I look for something else?
  25. Hey is this legal? I was going for an Ultra 16 gate,,, but I think I over achieved... I got this 6.25mm X 14mm with a nice 2.24 to 1 ratio. What problems do you think are headed my way? A!
