  1. Hey there! Would anyone know how well street lights work on camera? Concerned about flickering on camera. Maybe it differs, but is there a commonly known Hz? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! -Sean
  2. Hi im wondering if anyone can answer a question I’ve been pondering, that being...is it possible to change the shutter degree angle on a bolex rex 3?
  3. Question : Shooting anamorphic in super16 mm film, Is there a way to exploit the black space between two frames the same way it is done with the in 35 mm with 2 perf for 2:39 and gain time on you 400ft roll I am shooting with hawk vlite16 1.3 anamorphic , probably sr1 but i am wondering if there is a camera model that can allow to expoit more surface on the negative (and so, having more time per roll than the usual 10 min/400ft) by having the frames close to each other. I'm thinking why wouldn't that be possible, 16 mm anamorphic withmore than 10 min per 400 ft mag ? (the small size of the 16mm film ? the small size of the mechanic that pull the movie down ? so 1 perf is all there is for super 16 ? does anyone have a movie in mind that was shot anamoprhic 16mm film ?) I know high frame rate cameras exists, with precise mechanics that allows to have that maybe ... i am looking for a professional regular model though ... Cheers, J
  4. Hi I just recently purchased an arriflex 16st, it works amazing. it has a mag with zoom lens. I’m new to using this camera. Does anyone know how to use shutter and aperture. Also is their any places to find accessories.
  5. Hey guys, I shot on RED Dragon or Gemini. I usually use a plugin to clean up flickering shots after the fact. However, is there a way I cant set my camera to shoot the shot and avoid the flicker altogether? When shooting slowmo outside under different street lights, it does not appear to flicker on my RED touch screen. You'd won't even know if flickers until you home to review footage. Is there a certain way I can set my camera and/or shutter to avoid flicker in the shot?
  6. Hello everyone, I will be filming a shortfilm with my H16 EL in a couple of weeks. I am planning to light one interior scene with an HMI 1,2KW and some practical lights. I live in Europe so light is 50Hz. Given that shutter angle is 170º, is there any way to avoid lights from flicker at 24fps or 25fps? (24x360)/170=50,82 If my maths are correct, 24fps would give the closest shutter speed to 1/50. Best, Marcos
  7. I just received a Leicina special and it appears to function from what I can tell. The film in the cart moves, etc etc. however... There's one test that's been recommended to super 8 camera buyers where you look straight into the camera and press the shutter release to see if the shutter movement is visible. This works on my rolei, my Nikon, but with my new Leicina special, I don't see that flicker when I do this test. I tried opening it up (to try the same test but from the opposite point of view) but I can't seem to get the motor running with it open. Is this normal? Or just a bad sign?
  8. Other than the obvious Out-of-phase problems. is there a way to determine that your shutter is perfectly in phase? I shot some camera tests and and some scenes revealed a phase issue and some were ok.... weird! why would this be? Arthur!
  9. Hello I have some question about film's Motion Characteristic some movies like terminator 2, total recall (1990) are has a video-ish Motion Characteristic. terminator 2 is shot on film, it is 24 fps, it was not more than 180' shutter angle but it has lots of motion blurs, so motion feel like between film and video. and see these pictures please it's near 01:39:02 screen grab in terminator 2 / 24 fps video file you see some long kind of lamp in picture and this is same cut when fast panning. there is triple ghost. what make this thing? entire movie is like this when fast movement. ghosting and lots of motion blurs and video-ish motion. because camera shutter type? between halfmoon, bowtie? or lighting? telecine, scan? I really don't know. and sorry about awful grammar. Thank you.
  10. I cracked the mirror shutter on my SR3 and have been having a hell of a time trying to find a new one. I did locate an SR2 mirror shutter so I thought I might be able to take off the mirror and replace the cracked SR3 mirror. I'm not talking about the whole mechanism, just the mirror. Does anyone know if those two mirrors are compatible? They appear to be the same, but I've had difficulty finding exact specs on either.

    Eyemo Shutter

Hi guys, I've just joined the forums as I'm hoping to start pursuing cinematography, I've been a keen stills photographer for some time but found an Eyemo the other day that I couldn't help but buy! It was sold to me as 'not running', so I spent most of today completely stripping it down and rebuilding it. It runs perfectly now except I'm missing a couple of pieces! 1) The top spindle that holds the spool 2) The shutter I was thinking I could probably make the spindle as a worst case scenario, but I'm stuck on the shutter! Does anyone know where I can find these parts? I can't imagine they're easy to come by but I'm hoping theres a website I've not found yet! Thanks! Milan
  12. Hello. I can 't seem to find enough information on the net to understand the way Panavision's single blade focal plane shutter design works. Doesn't a single blade have to move in reverse in order to shut? If so, how does it shut without creating uneven exposure? Just how fast can that blade open/close? Is it instantaneous enough that reverse shutting would't matter? I can't imagine this to be the case. When adjusting "angle" does this alter the speed at which the blade moves in any way? Or is that instead constant, with the difference being a change in how long the blade stays in it 's "open" position? Perhaps I'm totally misguided and single blade means something other than what I'm thinking? Thanks.
