  1. Hi everyone, I am about to shoot a feature and the second camera that I am getting is an A-Minima. But for the purpose of the shoot I won't be able to look through the viewfinder so I am really relying on the Video Tap for framing. But I am not sure how great the BW video tap is for lowlight situations with 500T outdoors and a lot of NDs. So far I have 2 ideas that are at my disposal not sure if either one of them works. 1) Try to fit a Denz VCSC D2000 video tap on the the camera but I think that might defeat the purpose of the camera being small. 2) I have a GoPro10 with a C-mount (I have attached a photo). Not sure if when the original BW Video Tap is removed if it could be somehow be custom modified to accept the C-Mount GoPro. Or to somehow attach the GoPro directly to the viewfinder? What is the mount on the A-Minima that accepts the video tap, is there a name or is it something proprietary to Aaton? The GoPro sensor size is 1/2.3 (6.17 x 4.55 mm) is this too small to cover the whole frame? My main question is if you remove the original video tap from the camera could you not shim/modify it so that you get to the right flange distance and fit the GoPro. I prefer the GoPro because it's a lot smaller. If you have any experience on using GoPros as video taps please let me know what you think! Thanks a lot!
  2. Hi everyone, I have an HD Video Tap from Visual Products on my Prod. I was wondering if there is a way to trigger record an external mon when the camera rolls? It would be really convenient when the camera starts rolling to somehow automatically trigger the external mon/recorder that's attached to it. Could any of the the Lemo 2, 6, 9, 14pin connectors on the camera send a signal when the camera rolls and use that signal to somehow trigger? Is there a way to embed the trigger in the SDI signal of the video tap? I've heard that there are some sort of SDI trigger boxes but I think everything becomes a bit bulky then. Thanks!
  3. Hello Community ! (picture from the aaton ltr7 manual) - This might sound like basic questions but i must ask : 1) HOW DOES THE BEAM SPLITTER ON THE AATON LTR 7 WORKS what does the manual means by 'aaton VR30' system in the first paragraph ? 2) how do i know the one inside my LTR works ? how do i get the beam splitter signal out on a monitor ? 3) there is no connection whatsoever for video output on my ltr (no BNC - as it is sometimes apparent downside the magazine near the iso adjustment - or connector apparent near the beam splitter and so called aaton VR30), i do understand this beam splitter has an on/off position. I also do not possess the m3 allen wrench mentionned in the second paragraph but i can't even find the screw i should access to switch the BS position , or maybe it does not exist ? 4) Should i consider a better and easier alternative way to video tap on my aaton ltr7 with a micro camera through the viewfinder ? what camera and lense model is best suited for this configuration Thanks in advance, J aaton manual p20 png.zip
  4. I know there are many Krasnogorsk haters on this forum but I wanted to share this awesome project by Russian DP Max Ivanov. It's been 2 years in the works and so much effort has been put into this with a ton of custom machined parts and boards. Here are the specs as shared on the Instagram page for the project: - Camera works with 7-12V batteries (it has a 2-pin lemo connector for power input) - Swiss 100 watt BLDC Motor. (BLDC motors have longer service life and were installed on the Aaton A Minima, XTR Prod, Arri 416.) - Motor controlled and stabilized by a microcontroller - Sync is accurate to 0.001fps at 25fps. (between 0.01-0.001 at other framerates) - Framerates: 1-50 fps - Video tap is based on GoPro internals which allows to record the tap feed in-camera. (Max said he will be adding a cable clamp / adapter since it uses the unreliable micro-hdmi connection from the gopro internals) - Optical viewfinder can be used at the same time as the video tap - Wi-Fi control which allows to set framerate and run/stop wirelessly via your phone - Electronic footage counter. (Maintains footage count after being powered off and has a reset button) - Super 16 gate with ground glass adjustment mechanism. FFD can now be easily tuned and will be precisely set on every model. Max will also be selling a set of tools for calibrating the FFD on this camera so you will be able to calibrate it yourself (I can already hear some of you complaining about how nobody should attempt to do this on their own unless they're a trained technician) - Super 16 viewfinder with correct markings - PL Mount Obviously not a camera for every situation, like narrative projects or basically anything with dialogue. However, I think it's perfect for more abstract projects like music videos or fashion films, especially when you need to move fast and do dynamic handheld stuff. I have one preordered and am super excited to test it out once it's ready! (I think the current eta is March/April)
  5. Anybody know of any video tap available for Bolex?
  6. Hey everyone, I recently purchased an Eclair NPR off of eBay and I've got some questions about it. I'm trying to find a battery solution for it. I've read through other posts and I see that there are a lot of different routes I could go. So far I've been looking at this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1048193-REG/bescor_fp_12vatm_12v_lithium_ion_battery.html as well as this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/126161-REG/Cool_Lux_BC3054_BC_3054_Battery_Belt_LCE.html. I would love to hear everyones thoughts on these! My second question is about a piece of gear that came with the camera. It was in a pouch labeled "Video Tap" and when I opened it up the only thing in there was this weird viewfinder. I attached some pictures of it. There's no markings or writing on it that tell me what it is or what company it is. If anyone knows please let me know!

  8. Hi all! Just a quick one in regards to my Arriflex SR3 Advanced. The current video tap I have hooked up is the CEI Color 5 Video Assist. Ive been looking into how to make adjustments to the projected image as it is slightly rotated and shifted through the video feed. I know with the Arri IVS system you can make the adjustments by removing the 4 screws by the top handle, but I believe this one is slightly different. Any Suggestions before just digging in? I have already taken it off and made slight adjustments when attaching it back onto the body, but cant get it where it should be. Image focus is fine. If anyone has a manual on this particular model as well, that would be fantastic. The website seems to have been taken down and cant find a manual anywhere! Thanks!! Rhys
  9. Hello, I'm slightly confused about the door on my Arri 3. It has a spot for a video tap but I don't know what CCD cameras will fit it. It sort of looks like a bayonet style. I've found some online but I have no way of knowing if they'll mount. Anyone know where I could get one?
  10. Hey guys, So I've recently purchased an old SR2 modded to shoot super 16. It's a solid package but the only thing missing is a video tap. I've contacted a guy that used to build Jurgens taps and he has the parts but it can get pretty costly. My other idea is to purchase another camera I have found (An SR1 with a tap) and install it in my SR2. The price would be far better taking this route. The bodies are almost identical as far as i know on the viewfinder/eyepiece side of things. My only concern is that the tap on the SR1 won't cover super 16. I know the old Jurgens taps would cover both but I am not sure about this one. The wonderful gentleman who is selling the SR1 has been kind enough to send me a video detailing the camera. Here's my dilemma: The tap isn't labeled and my google research to identify it (and get specs on whether it will cover S16) have come up short. Does anyone know what this tap is, its history, and if it covers S16 or not? (images attached: apologies for the quality. They were taken from a youtube link) Thanks everyone!
  11. I'd like to share my new idea. All you need is an iPhone with a case you can attach to your rod system to have a workable video tap for a Super 8mm film camera. Enjoy it, MOY https://vimeo.com/65196781
