  3. Hey Guys, So i've been tasked in DoP'ing a music video next month and at the directors request, he want's that 70's style look, as we shall be re-creating a 'top of the pops' style performance for the band. My references for this sort of thing are basically anything Bruno mars has put out over the past 4 years: Bruno Mars - Treasure: Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man: and... Pheonix - J Boy: Ideally, due to budget restraints, it would have to be digital and as we'll be renting off a friend for a silly price, so it will most probably be an Epic. However i'm aware 16mm would of been ideal for this. So my question is, setting aside camera movement etc, what would you suggest for the 'look'? I'm quite set on hiring some Tiffen star filters for the star effects and throwing a 1/2 pro mist in the mix to bloom the highlights on an old vintage zoom, but what would you suggest for de-grading the quality of the image? Thanks in advance, Nick www.nicholasleeshield.com

  5. Hey guys, I'm a 24 year old Cinematographer living in Seven Sisters, London. I recently shot a film called The Mechanic. Its a 60 second doc about Bo Hare, a mechanic and engineer working in rural England, who finds pleasure in the restoration of classic cars. Shot on a Blackmagic Ursa 4K with mixed tungsten and practical fluro lights, i'm a cinematographer, but I directed this as well as shot it. Drone shots on a DJI Inspire 3 Adv. Used vintage nikon AI-S primes to shoot everything, very much recommended if you are on a budget, tons of character, they flare beautifully. There is going to be a longer version forthcoming, but this cut dives straight in to the character and is hopefully an intriguing minute! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6oVWtugUyo Its for a competition running by Sony Europe where I could win a camera, so if you enjoyed it please like it on youtube..! :) Feel free to shoot with any questions or thoughts! 7. RED WEAPON WITH HAWK C-SERIES: THE NEW MEETS THE VINTAGE. This week I would like to share one of my last experiences on set where I got the chance to use a cinema camera and a set of lenses for the first time. On one side, and I don’t exactly know why, it was an incredible long time since I used for the last time a RED camera and I didn’t had tried yet the “new” (even though there is already a newer model out there called Raven) 6K Weapon; plus, I did had seen the Hawk C-Series, but just in rental houses promotional meetings, and we all know that an actual set is a totally different environment. THE CAMERA Truth is that from quiet a few points of view I was gratefully surprised by the camera, since comparing to the RED Dragon it features severals tools that, if you want my two cents, are a consistent improvement, both in the operation of the camera as a 1AC and the performance of the camera itself. First of all... More information: http://www.camaleonrental.com/gb/blog/red-weapon-with-hawk-c-series-the-new-meets-the-vintage-n14

  10. Set of Cooke Speed Panchros ser. II and III, seven lenses in arri mount, 18-25-32-40-50-75-100, ser # they range from 5XXXXX to 7XXXXX. The 32mm has no focusing mount. Normal signs of usage, only the 40mm has more wear on the barrel. Glass does not have any scratches, some lenses do have irrelevant faint small cleaning marks. PICS HERE Price $19k
  11. Just got a complete set of the Cooke Speed Panchro ser II + III's, all geared: 18-25-32-40-50-75-100mm D.F.) All lenses have serial numbers above 700000. Gently used, some lenses have light cleaning marks, minor specs of dust. Would consider offers for the six lenses 18-25-32-40-50-75 (without the 100mm D.F.) They all focus fine. Price $19.5k Pics here

  15. Hi. I'm testing some spherical primes made by Technovision and I'm wondering if anyone here knows what lenses their conversions were based on? The T-stop is 1.4 on all of them and they cover Full Frame. Zeiss? K35, but the T-stop doesn't match? The 25mm confuses me. Thanks, Robert Blom
  16. I'm due to be flying out to shoot a music vid in the next few weeks on the Arri Alexa Mini - I thought I'd pick the community brain to see if anyone has any great suggestions for lens choices to achieve the following kind of look.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gtdpnKbT10 We've had to rule out the option of shooting VHS/film/TV cameras etc. So I've got to get as close as I can using the right sort of lens and filters (plus there'll be haze too which'll help) - we'll be hiring in LA, so if anyone suggest a particular vintage lens that's hard to get hold of then it'd be great to know if you know of a local rental house that may stock it? The main things we're looking to achieve are - As close to the look as possible using lens/filters/haze/grade - The ability to zoom mid shot, all adding to that retro effect, so ideally something with a large zoom range and ideally parfocal. At the moment I'm thinking an Angenieux 24-290 purely because of the range - I know she's a beast but I'll be on sticks the whole time. Plus something like a Glimmerglass 1/2 or 1 or possibly even a Hollywood Star filter to really make those light sources pop. I've not used nets before, so I'm a bit hesitant to experiment too much on the job so ideally glass suggestion if possible :-) Are there any watchouts I should be aware of? I've learnt a huge amount from you guys so it'd be really great to get the forums advice and ideas :-) Huge thanks in advance, Matt.
  17. I have some Zeiss Super Speeds for sale. Pics here They are:::: Distagon 35mm f 1,2 Planar 50mm f 1,3 Planar 85mm f 1,4 All of them are in Arriflex bayonet mount, and the 35mm Distagon does have the adapter to PL. So it's easy to move the adapter around to either lens. All three lenses are in very nice shape, no issues on the glass, focus and iris are perfect. The 50mm might have some very faint haze or just need a cleaning, but this is very minimal. All the lenses have an 80mm exterior front ring diameter. Price is $15,000

  19. Hi there, I own a great set of Schneider Kreuznach lenses with Arri STD mount and would like to rehouse them. Lenses are 18mm, 28mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm, all f2. I know that P+S is doing proper rehousings but this is probably to expensive for all lenses (I think they will charge around 18.000€ for all 6 lenses). Any recommendations? Thanks!
  20. I am selling part of my private lens collection. this is the best spherical lens ever made in Soviet union. Typically warm, with very nice warm flers. I used these lens for my feature films and commercials. Some of them were blockbusters of the year in Czech republic. I will upload grabs from mkv files in next post. I love older lens against new MP, UP. When I use MP or UP with Alexa or RED, it is so technical and clean. These older lens produce so nice texture, organic look. Even I mostly have budget for Masterprimes or Ultraprimes, I go very often with Lomos, spherical or anamorphic. I have 2 sets for A+B cameras, this is smaller set I am selling. 18mm T1.6 35OKC7-18-1 28mm T1.4 OKC10-28-1 35mm T1.4 OKC12-35-1 75mm T1.6 OKC14-75-1M Focus rings can be changed to black by Elox process. Fantastic lens in very good condition. All pictures on web: http://postimg.org/gallery/2x9blof16/ Price 9900 USD (or euro equivalent) +shipping 100USD. Shipping worldwide. Located in Prague.
  21. Saw this and thought I would share: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/media/12082238/British-production-firms-spend-big-on-vintage-lenses-to-profit-from-period-drama-boom.html
  22. Hello all, I use a BMPCC with an Angenieux 12-120mm f/2.5 lens; to attach the lens, I use an Arri-pl mount. Now, I have an issue with this lens, and I'm not sure if it can even be solved: I get an out of focus picture when the zoom distance is below 20mm while at an aperture below f/5.6. No matter how much I adjust the focus ring, the picture is entirely out of focus. Is this natural for which the lens does not work with the Blackmagic's sensor, or am I just a special case and there's something wrong with my lens? Thanks, John
  23. Hello guys. Need help finding a focus ring to adapt into my Schneider 16mm lenses. The problem is the circumference of the focus ring on the lens is 165mm. Redrock Micro has the type "A" ring with the minimum of 180mm. Years ago I've bought from Shoot35 in UK a model that fits perfectly, but they dont' have it anymore. I need 3 more. I know there are the universal 'malleable' rings, but I need the ones that have a larger diameter outside, to reach the follow focus gear. I've been looking around all the web, not even on eBay I could find, new or used. Any help much appreciated. Regards, Flavio
  24. Hey guys, Just wanted to see if anyone's shot on the Cooke Crystal (Xtal) Express anamorphics before. Considering them for an upcoming job. It's between them and the Cineovisions. I've used the Cineovisions before and had a great experience with them, but was thinking about trying these crystals out. Panavision has a few more focal lengths available as opposed to their cineovision package which is a plus because this is a multicam gig. Thanks! Appreciate the help -Ben J
