  3. Hi , Just purchased a beautiful old lady in perfect working condition (still got to do some test next week but motors are running pretty well) : an Aaton Ltr 7 from the first era (1974-1982) 1) It came with two mags that are a bit different one from another. Any tips about the serial numbers and the pressure plate (see photos) is welcome. 2) Is there anyone in europe making this kind of video output/assist : http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProductDetail01.asp?productID=741&Cat=11 3) any comments about the camera electronics, what to take care of etc ... is very much welcome ? photos : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1oh1TppG0EFdFYhjaO6_K7DUtGjWVuGoj
  4. I work in TV, so when it comes to 16mm I'm just an enthusiast, and all of my 16mm footage so far has been on my Krasnogorsk-3, which has served me well. Having said that, I would like to eventually shoot some more ambitious projects on film (requiring sound, longer takes, etc), but unfortunately the closest place I could rent a film camera from is about five hours away. Because of this, I occasionally find myself browsing eBay for cameras, and often Regular 16 cameras such as Arri SRs, Aatons, or CP-16s are available. I can't help but wonder how worthwhile buying a Regular 16 camera is though; Super 16 seems to be preferable in every way. I guess Regular 16 is good if you want a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it seems like most people would prefer to shoot Super 16 and crop the sides instead. Likewise, if you wanted a wider aspect ratio, you could crop the top and bottom of your Regular 16 image, but Super 16 would require less cropping and give you a bigger image area. It's also worth noting that many Regular 16 cameras can be converted to Super 16, but for the cost it seems like you might as well have just bought a Super 16 camera in the first place. As I said, I'm not a professional when it comes to film, so I'm not sure if I will ever be able to justify purchasing my own professional-level 16mm camera. However, the (generally) lower cost of Regular 16 cameras does make it a little tempting sometimes. What do you guys think, are Regular 16 cameras worth investing in? Note: Yes, I recognize that both Regular 16 and Super 16 would widely be considered "obsolete" these days, so strictly speaking they probably aren't worth "investing" in. I just mean this in the context of those who enjoy shooting celluloid.
  5. Hi, I've recently acquired an Aaton LTR 7 and was wondering if it was possible to fit a variable shutter in the LTR to allow flicker free filming at 24fps in 50hz countries? I know some lights will be fine, my concern is practical lights which will pulse with a 180˚ shutter at 24fps. Thanks, Jacob
  6. Hi to all, I am seeking for example of filter use on 16 mm. It can go from glimmer, black promised to effect filters like stars and else (ideally from footages, test or existing movies) Shooting soon on aaton xtr, zeiss 12 mm + zeiss zoom 20-120 + eventually 7219. A dance performance in a studio with natural light , about T'4 coming from outside with top windows. Thanks in advance
  7. Hello everyone, I am seeking for examples of filter use on 16 mm, anything from glimmer, black promist to effect filters (stars ...etc) will do. If movies also pop in mind don't hesitate ? I am in research for an upcoming 16 mm video (dance performance, with natural light) that we'll shot with the aaton xtr , 7219 film, zeiss 12 mm & zeiss zoom 12-120 (by mind). Caméra on dolly or stand, 'black swan' inspired of some sort . Thanks ! Jordan
  8. I recently got an Aaton LTR 7 serviced and have been practicing loading it and running film through it for a project. It has 2 mags. One of the mags is making a scratching sound and I am not sure what it is. The only difference between the mags is the rubber stoppers on the load in side seem to keep getting ground down everytime I run a roll through the camera on this problematic mag. Is there another reason that the sound could be happening and if not do you know why these are being grounded down? improper loading? The roll maybe has to be completely flat when loading? I'm really not sure and would appreciate any help. Thanks!
  9. Hey everyone, Just purchased a beautiful Aaton XTR Prod (very happy) and I'm currently figuring out which direction I want to go lens wise. I've personally already used the Arri/Zeiss 11-110 T2.2 a bit and quite liked it. Not tried the Canon "hurt locker" zooms but have only heard good things. My main question was around using newer glass made for S35, and what the potential downsides of that might be. The Tokina seems to be well made, not huge, have great reviews, not silly money, and can be used as a superwide on S35 when the opportunity arises. Is there something I'm missing? Image wise, what am I losing by using it on S16? Thanks! Rowan
  10. I posted this some time ago and would like to see if anyone can add to what I already know......forget parts 2 + 3 as they are obvious......don't know what 1, 4, 5, 6 or 7 are for.....
  11. Looking for an 11 position shutter for an Aaton XTR Prod. Just bought a 3 position XTR and would like to upgrade it to 11.
  12. Hello, I'm conducting a super 16mm steadiness test on an Aton LTR and was wondering if anyone knows where I could download a steadiness test chart? So far I found one from a French webpage but it doesn't look like the one I know. I also take the opportunity to double check the procedure since it's been a while since I did one: 1 - 25 mm lens 2 - Make sure the chart occupies the entire frame 3 - Center the camera with the chart (use a mirror to help) 4 - Load virgin film 5 - Mark the first frame in the gate of the camera with a big "X 6 - Try to use a higher F stop 7 - Under expose 1 stop 8 - Let it run for 20 seconds 9 - Rewind the film (use a darkroom or changing bag), rethread the camera and load it so that the "X" appears in the gate to fill the frame as it did in the first pass 10 - Reframe slightly to the right/left and up/down so that the chart lines are in a different position but still parallel to each other 11 - Under expose 1 stop (again) 12 - Run the same film for a second time I'm in doubt about step number 10. The image attached is an illustration of what I meant! Thanks in advance. Best, Marta S.
  13. Curious if anyone has seen a solution that allows a WCU4 or Preston to run/stop an XTR Prod. Would be great to have for steadicam builds/in general.
  14. Hi all, I own an Aaton XTR s16 camera. Currently I have a PL hard mount on the camera and have only used the camera with rented PL glass, but I also own the original Aaton Mount, which has a much shorter FFD than the PL mount (40mm compared with PL 52mm). So I’m looking for adapters that would allow me to put vintage lenses (with ffds between 40mm and 52mm) on the camera that will cover the s16 film plane (i.e. m42, Canon FD, Nikon f, etc). Does anyone know if there are any adapters out there that would allow me to put any of these lenses on my Aaton camera mount? If so, where can I find them? Thanks for your help! - Clay
  15. Hello, I am considering selling my Aaton xtr prod. it has been serviced from scratch at cinefacilites in Amsterdam, and it is in fantastic condition. Pm for photos, I am only willing to sell it in Europe ( shipping internationally would be too much of a hassle, it s a big case ). 15K eur, OBO I also have two Zeiss superspeeds s16 ( 12 and 16mm ) if you are interested. Sold separately. Location : the Netherlands Best Kimon
  16. Hello everyone, I hope this is the right place for this. I have a light leak problem on my XTR prod, it's a strong red flashing cast that comes across the image fairly sporadically, I have attached an example video: I thought it might be the viewfinder glow somehow leaking through the gate, however I thought when I was filming this the glow was off, but I can't be 100% sure. I have found two other posts from the forum about this kind of problem: But I'd like to post about my specific problem with examples here to see if anyone might know definitively what causes it. I am based in the UK and I am going to get the camera serviced and hopefully fixed, but in order to chase down this particular problem I thought I would ask here and see if anyone else has had this problem and what solutions they found please? Here are video examples from my camera: The password for both videos is: leaky Thanks for taking the time to read my post, please can anyone let me know if they've seen the same thing and is it a simple fix? ? Thanks, Eddie
  17. Could someone suggest some cheap but solid prime lenses that come in Aaton mount? I'm looking at switching from a c-mount system and realized that you can't adapt c-mount lenses to aaton mount. Looking for wider (10-25mm) prime lenses. Is there anything comparable to Switar 10mm or 16mm lenses? So far I've only seen some somewhat expensive zoom lenses. If it makes any difference this is for use on an Eclair ACL II. Cheers!
  18. I actually own two 35mm movie cameras and I have to rent them out to other indie filmmakers /cinematographers who have trouble finding analog gear. Any places in the Hollywood area thats rents analog movie cameras anymore? Most every rental house I have checked in the LA area that used to carry analog movie cameras have either gone out of business or they have a very spare selection of analog film cameras maybe a ARRICAM and thats it. Or the rental won't rent to you unless you have the backing of a major movie studio. Any rental houses with a good selection of analog gear out there still friendly to indie / low budget filmmakers? There used to be quite a few ... now hardly any, almost every rental house is 98% digital. I know there are still filmmakers shooting film because I just saw Star Wars! Purchasing movie cameras is a different story though!! Plenty of places I found selling vintage 35mm and 16mm analog film cameras!! Maybe that is the only option these days.

  22. Hi everyone! I'm a young filmmaker that has recently decided to dedicate myself completely to shooting on film. I've been shooting 16mm for years, but have never owned a camera myself. I've decided to invest in a camera as I'm always on the go, and to keep borrowing cameras is getting too complicated. I'm searching for either an Eclair ACL II or the Aaton LTR 54 (also open to LTR 7).
  23. I just learned I have access to an Aaton LTR but that the batteries went missing. I've searched for batteries online to no avail and was wondering if anyone here knew anyone selling them? Let me know guys, Thank you!
