  1. Hi I’m looking to purchase a bolex h16 reflex camera or any other reflex 16mm cameras like beaulieu r16 canon scooping, arr16, arr2bc, etc my price range is the highest $600
  2. This is probably a dumb question but can you load black leader film into your camera (in my case bolex). Just wanted to practice loading my camera in the dark but need a dummy reel. Is it better to just buy a dummy reel thats been shot on already or is black leader film fine?
  3. Hi im wondering if anyone can answer a question I’ve been pondering, that being...is it possible to change the shutter degree angle on a bolex rex 3?
  4. Looking to buy a TXM-26C crystal sync motor
  5. Anybody know of any video tap available for Bolex?
  6. I'm looking to purchase a Bolex 16mm non-reflex camera, that takes single perf film (serial numbers above 76471). I'm in Spain, if anyone in Europe has this type of Bolex available for sale. Thanks!!
  7. I've ordered a Bolex REX 3 and I am so excited! I've also gotten a Sekonic L398, so I've really got the cliche film student package, haha. Honestly, the simplicity/limitations of the tools is what I find inspiring and fun. A few things I'm still trying to grasp: - Shutter angle: When to adjust and how, for effect or utility - Aperture: How to compensate for the viewfinder? - In what situations is it practical to push or pull the film more than an aesthetic choice? - common pitfalls to avoid? - best places to buy film stock? - Is using a digital camera for reference an effective way to prevent light flicker? this is one i really want to avoid lol Thanks to anyone who answers, any info is really appreciated. I am new to the forums and this site is a wonderful resource
  8. I'm looking to purchase a Kern Switar 5.5mm Wide Angle Aspheron for Bolex. Please shoot me a PM or email (jordan AT canopyfilms.com) if you've got one ?
  9. Mentioned this in another thread but thought it would be best to start a new one for clarity. Got a Bolex EBM on a crazy deal and now I'm trying to figure out a way to power it properly. I bought a 12v AA battery box, soldered a tuchel connector and chucked 8x Eneloop Pro batteries (1.2v min.2500mAh) inside. It turns over but it sounds really fast, like 50fps+. The frame rate selector dial does nothing to change speeds oddly. I guess what I'm asking is: Technically, should this work? Or have I done something wrong? Has anyone heard of the frame rate dial not working? I'm planning on sending it to Bolex Switzerland for a service but they're understandably crazy busy right now (since a month) and not returning calls/emails. Any help would be massively appreciated! Cheers, Rowan
  10. Hey everyone, first post and just wanted to say thanks for all the invaluable knowledge that's on offer here. I really appreciate it. So... I got an amazing deal on a Bolex EBM from eBay... or so I thought. Once I received it, I was checking it over and and noticed that I wasn't able to see anything at all through the viewfinder. I tried everything I could to solve it but no dice (checked the douser was definitely down and not bent, no filters in the way, lens cap off etc etc). Anyway, not wanting to be beaten I decided to perform some minor surgery and remove the lens mount to gain access to the actual mirror assembly, and low and behold I found an empty space where I imagined (with my limited Bolex knowledge) there would be two little mirrors reflecting light into the viewfinder. I'm pretty sure that's the problem but just wanted to get some confirmation from someone that knows for sure what's going on in there, before I go and chew out eBay/the seller. Pictures attached of the ground glass assembly too just in case anyone notices some other faults I haven't. Let me know what you think! Cheers, Rowan
  11. I'm looking to buy a Bolex REX-5 16mm Camera in good working condition. Extra points if it's been converted to Super 16. Please shoot me a PM if you've got one. Cheers!

  14. Using 16mm film... Do anyone use any other format besides 16mm and Super16mm? I know there are others... But am I wrong in saying Super16mm is the most popular? Come visit us at our revised website: drbolex.com Thanks... Arthur!
  15. I actually own two 35mm movie cameras and I have to rent them out to other indie filmmakers /cinematographers who have trouble finding analog gear. Any places in the Hollywood area thats rents analog movie cameras anymore? Most every rental house I have checked in the LA area that used to carry analog movie cameras have either gone out of business or they have a very spare selection of analog film cameras maybe a ARRICAM and thats it. Or the rental won't rent to you unless you have the backing of a major movie studio. Any rental houses with a good selection of analog gear out there still friendly to indie / low budget filmmakers? There used to be quite a few ... now hardly any, almost every rental house is 98% digital. I know there are still filmmakers shooting film because I just saw Star Wars! Purchasing movie cameras is a different story though!! Plenty of places I found selling vintage 35mm and 16mm analog film cameras!! Maybe that is the only option these days.
  16. Hey everyone, I recently got some scans back and they look great, but on one shot in particular I noticed an issue with dark circles all throughout the images. I was wondering if this is a lens issue or an issue with my bolex prism? The lens was stopped down to f/22 and I also closed the shutter down an extra stop since these were shots of a bright sky. I have also noticed this issue on previous scans. I did notice in my one Switar lens that there are a bunch of little droplets of what appear to be grease or liquid, could this cause such an issue? The spots are soft, almost identical to sensor dust spots on a digital camera, but they are much larger in diameter. Thank you in advance. -Derick

  18. Hello everyone, I am a French documentary filmmaker and would like to develop my own practice in shooting on 16mm. I am looking for an affordable camera to shoot by myself (previously I was shooting with a team). As far as I know, these are the cameras that could be good companions: Scoopic 16 or 16M / Bolex EL / Aaton A-Minima / Ikonoskop but if you own another camera that could do the job, feel free to suggest it to. Looking forward to hearing what you have to offer! Thank you! Margaux Guillemard
  19. I have for sale a rare and sought-after Bolex anamorphot 8/19/1.5x lens adaptor. Designed for the H8 cameras, they've found new fame for the superb and distinctive look they bring when used on micro 4/3rds cameras. This one is in excellent condition - a few marks on the barrel to be expected with age, but the optics are clean as a whistle. It's easily mounted to any lenses with stepup rings or readily-available custom anamorphic adaptors. Images attached below. There are plenty of reviews on the web, and some beautiful test footage from one here: https://vimeo.com/37044086. This is a fantastic, unique and cost-effective addition to any 4/3rd shooters lens set. Price is US$975. Available to view in Hobart or Melbourne, Australia but happy to send internationally with Paypal fee and shipping additional. More images are available on request - as I can't seem to attach them! Cheers, Jonathan.
  20. I'm considering buying this Bolex I found at a local camera store. I've been wanting to try 16mm for a while now, and this feels like a good opportunity to purchase. I was wondering if anyone could highlight some pros/cons with this model? I believe it is just the H16 Reflex. It sounds like it runs fine and everything seems to be working, but regardless I plan on sending it to get serviced just to make sure everything is working properly. I'm only aware of Du-All Camera (if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know). Are there any specific limitations or things I should be cautious of? The lenses seem decent, but I think I'd like to buy some better primes later on. Thanks in advance!
  21. Hey everyone, I've had a handful of rolls developed from my Bolex H16 RX, and all have had a vertical purple line throughout each frame on the left hand side. There's a faint line on the right hand side as well, but less prominent. The line is more apparent in underexposed footage. Image attached of an underexposed clip. Anyone know what this might be? Some sort of a light leak, or is something scratching the film? Thanks in advance for any help.
  22. Anyone know of someone who converts bolex from c mount to pl in europe?

  24. Hi, I am planning on shooting a short film on my Bolex B8. It takes double run 8mm film. I want to shoot in black and white (film stock I can find for my camera includes Fomapan reversal 100, Fomapan negative 100, and Fomapan negative T200). I am relatively new to shooting on 8mm and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me, especially in regards to the best way to light for B/W 8mm? I hope to get as sharp an image possible, I understand that shooting at a higher aperture will help, and that using newer lenses will also help (although I do not plan on purchasing new lenses). I love high contrast images but I am not sure how well I will be able to achieve this with 8mm. Is there anything in particular I should keep in mind when I am lighting? Is one of the film stocks I mentioned better to use than the others? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
