Hi all, I'm looking to achieve a certain effect in camera filtration. This particular piece that uses it well (although a bit heavily): I've used pieces of optical glass to get the distortion effect in a corner or half of the frame, but I'm wondering what options I have to create the effect around the entire frame (vignette). The obvious answer is to use a UV filter with various amounts of smeared vaseline and either hold it in front of the lens, or place it in a matte box tray that can be rotated. Are there any other techniques or glass objects you have found work well? Thanks

Hello, I've been searching for a while now on how to achieve this effect. Here's a perfect example: It's the beautiful ghosting effect when the light hits the lens at particular times. It looks as though some kind of classic soft filter and they're letting light leak behind it? Or is this a separate piece of glass? Thanks! Chris

Is there such a filter that allows you to focus only on small part of the frame, (not necessarily in the middle, using a very wide lens (and working with f/stop around 2.8)? any experience with any of these filters? the scene is the following: frontal shot of the nurse holding a big siring, I want to focus on the big distorted needle in the very foreground, blurring the rest of the image, and being able to rack focus to the character. Can I do it with a filter on set and not in post? thank you so much :)

Hi everyone, I was hoping to see if anyone knew how to achieve these distorting effects found in these music videos. The first is in the music video for Lana Del Rey's Blue Jeans track. It's used on and off notably at the 1:30 mark. The 2nd is this music video for Feist's Anti - Pioneer. It's more like a ghosting/doubling effect seen at the 40 second mark. These effects must be through some kind of filtration, in the case with the Feist video, allowing light to leak behind the diffusion filter to get reflections? With the Lana Del Rey video I'm not so sure. Physically holding warped glass in front of the lens? If anyone has attempted this before I'd love to get some pointers. Thanks! Chris
