  5. Hello Everybody, I sell my beloved RED Epic-M Dragon bought at the end of 2014. I unfortunately don't use it enough. I have been shooting much lighter in recent years and will therefore buy a less "high end" camera that is more suitable for projects where I am the only operator. The camera is in very good condition with few projects done with it. Low Hours: 730 hours I sell the whole kit for 11'000€ + Shipping The camera is with me in Geneva, Switzerland. Possibility to pick it up in France or other countries around Switzerland. I can send it in Europe by adding shipping and other fees. The kit for sale includes: - 1x RED Epic-M Dragon 6K brain - 1x Side SSD Module 1.8'' - 1x Minimag Side SSD Module - 1x Wooden Camera Cage - 1x RED Touch Pro 5.0 Monitor with Nato clamp - 1x RED Switchblade Pro - 1x Canon EF Mount - 1x RED Top Handle with Nato rail - 1x Backplate V-Mount Wooden Camera - 1x Baseplate 19mm Wooden Camera (Dovetail) - 2x Redmags 240GB 1.8'' - 1x REDmag reader USB 3.0 with cable - 1x C-Box Wooden Camera (not pictured) - 1x B-Box Wooden Camera - 1x A-Box Wooden Camera - 2x 19mm RED rods Carbon - 1x Dovetail Wooden Camera - 1x OLPF Skin tone-Highlights - 1x OLPF Low Light Optimized - 1x OLPF IR Spectrum Kippertie - 1x LEMO Cinecoil for monitor - 1x Monitor LEMO RED (not pictured) - 1x RED Adaptor Module (not pictured) - 1x Box RED EPIC-M Dragon - 1x Pelicase 1510 Green Link Google Drive with pictures: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1aikF-4uL56a3YHK3udvbv2fHt2Es39A0 Cheers, Blaise
  6. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with me. I'm going to be DP on a friend's shortfilm and they want to use the Red Scarlet W with a Dragon sensor. I'm excited about that because I have never used a RED camera, but I have some questions, specially since I won't have acces to the camera pretty much till the shooting day. How do you expose for this camera? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I'm really asking, where do you put your 18% gray? and how's your experience with your technique? I like using my light meter to set exposure, but now with a variety of cameras available and manufacturers putting 18% gray wherever they want it's complicated. Here is my point: I have an Ursa Mini 4.6k and it's a great camera. I tested the camera using an 18% gray card and some other tests and I determined that in order to get proper exposure without correcting in post I have to overexpose the camera by almost two stops. I set ISO 800 on the camera and ISO 250 on my light meter, and I get what I consider proper exposure. There is a video where Shane Hurbult tests the camera and he gets pretty much the same results. I guess it was sort of embarrasing for Blackmagic to say their camera is rated at ISO 250 so they said it's a ISO 800 camera like REd and Alexas, but by doing that they are forcing people to under expose a camera that doesn't have tolerance to underexposure. It's a great camera, if you expose it properly and that is not at ISO 800. I know they are trying to protect the highlights, so their camera looks good, but I know how to take care of my dynamic range and I rather take it to the limits taking my own decisions. Is there something similar with RED cameras? How do you expose for RED specially with a light meter? Do you over expose or underexpose for some reason? Do you get more noise if you underexpose it? How far would you take ISO and still get a decent image? I'm not lazy, I did read the manual, but knowing that manufacturers play games with specs I rather have some info from people who have experience using the camera or I may say the sensor. Thanks in advance for your help.
  7. Hi All, I'm shooting a live music session with a number of cameras in the next couple of weeks, and initially had Alexa Mini's pencilled, along with some rehoused Kowa anamorphic lenses. I've just found out that the rental house I'm dealing with can offer me RED Dragon 6K's as an option instead. I've loved all of the tests I've done with this camera, and really like the size of the sensor (being close to FF). Unfortunately, I've only tested sets of spherical lenses with it so far, and so I'm not sure if the Kowa's that I've got pencilled will cover the Dragon's sensor area. I know you can crop and shoot in a lower resolution, but if possible I'd prefer to make the most of the height of the sensor. Final delivery of the sessions is likely to be HD, and I know you can shoot desqueezed proxies in 2K ProRes, but I'd prefer to work with the RAW for the sake of the grade. If anyone has any experience with this combination, that would be really helpful. 13. I'll be shooting a short soon and we're planning on using a Red Dragon at 6K with a set of Hawk C-Series anamorphics. I'm aware that, due to the aspect of the Dragon sensor, the resulting field of view using any given lens will be narrower than if it were shot with a 4:3 sensor such as on the Alexa. The widest focal length in the C-Series is 40mm, which on the Alexa would produce an image with a roughly equivalent FOV that a 20mm spherical might on Super 35. My question is, roughly how wide would the 40mm anamorphic appear when using the Dragon? I'm trying to work out if the 40mm will be wide enough for my needs. The reasons for choosing Dragon is for maximum resolution, given that it's a vfx heavy sci-fi. Would it be better to shoot on Alexa for maximum FOV? Or try using a set of diopters?!

  15. Hey Graders, hopefully you can help me out with my dilemma. I recently started grading work for a commercial that used a beauty filter for all the setups except one. I believe they used a Tiffen Glimmergas 1/4 filter, with CP2s on a Dragon. I find that the non-filtered image has a "distinct" video feel to it, any suggestions on matching? Cheers!
  16. Hi there, Just did a scout at the house we'll be shooting at, and it's full of new-fangled LEDs in every room, all set up to be controlled via wi-fi. It's mostly overhead can lights with LED floods, and ornamental fixtures with the new Phillips edison type bulbs. However I came across some LEDs I've never seen before in the kitchen's hanging fixtures. They are 360 degree bulbs that use the old g4 style fixture. She said the bulbs were Chinese knock-off's that were cheaper. Attached is a picture of one of the replacements with packaging, and another of them in action hanging over the island. Anyone ever see these types of bulbs before? Worked or had problems with them on camera? Any bad experiences with over the counter LED's in general before? I've only shot the Phillips Hue bulbs (which are some of these) and they were fine on Film. We're shooting RED dragon. Trying to figure out if we can bing camera in on Tech. Thanks.
  17. I've been researching the native ISO of RED cameras (primarily the Dragon and MX). What's been confusing isn't the notion of a native ISO, but rather that in the debate between 320 and 800, people are referring to shooting at ISO 800 as underexposing when compared to ISO 320. From one such individual: "At 320 (which may be closer to the sensors "native" sensitivity- or the point where the raw matches the redcolor as far as middle grey) you have much less range in the highlights. By rating 800, you are underexposing the sensor a bit and protecting the highlights." Bear with me as I'm more of a lighting guy, but my question is: how is it that by increasing ISO by 1⅓ stops are you underexposing the sensor? What am I missing? Thanks so much for your help!
  18. Hi everybody, I'm 2nd ACing a project with Red Dragon and cooke anamorphic and I'm having troubles with the RED LCD on board monitor. The problem is that after setting the 6:5 anamorphic 2X desqueeze the DP sees the frame on his RED LCD kind of cropped. It's like he's seeing the 2:40 aspect ration only in a frame inside the monitor while the rest of the space is just black, and it's not eveng shading like when you shoot 1.85 and you just wanna set the frame guides for anamoprhic, it's just like if only portion of the monitor is used to show the image but the rest is not. It's like seeinga smaller rectangle inside the monitor that shows the image while the rest of the space is occupied by the other infos like media, battery etc etc. Does anybody know if there's an option in the monitor control I can use to fix this problem or if this is normal when shooting 6k anamorphic? (and I'm sorry if the description of the problem might not be clear). Thanks so much in advance, Davide
  19. Hi everybody, sorry for the silly question but I'm way more familiar with ALEXAs than with the epic/dragon family. I was wondering if on the dragon there's a way to send different signals on different monitors, like in the Alexa. By that I mean the possibility of having the director seeing the LUT/REC 709 in the director's monitor and the DP the RAW in the EVF/on board monitor for example. I've been playing with the DONNA app but I cannot figure it out. Thanks so much in advance for the help, Davide Sorasio
