  2. "A young girl's message makes its way into a struggling boy's life" This is the second short film I have made, improving slowly but surely. Written and Directed by Eric Castillo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ_dT2V0URg&list=UUsTYaGYnM3BUWm49AEdmAjA&index=7
  3. Hi there, So as I was waiting forever to try to buy a BMCC, I got myself a 7d and I am now looking at which lenses to buy. I don't have a lot of money to buy glass, probably around 2500-3000$, so there are a lot of things that come in the equation, including resell value. I was originally thinking of getting: Tokina 11-16 Canon 16-35 Canon 24-70 But then I saw the Samyang lenses and now I'm wondering if these are any good. These are faster, with de-clicked aperture primes which are pretty cheap as I can buy the 14mm, 24mm, 35mm and 85mm for about 1800$. So now the questions are: Are these any good built quality? Would these be of any use if I end up buying the BMCC (crop factor 2.2)? Would these be worth anything at resell since they are really less popular than the first three photo lenses I lister earlier? Thanks for letting me know what your thoughts are.

  8. I'm wondering what the cheapest set up would be for event coverage? I have dslr and lenses, but it is more in terms of rig, lighting and sound recording equipment (something that can be operated by one person). The camera provided is a 60D. Lighting and rig are most important.
  9. Hello. My name is George Skoumas Papanikolaou and I am a 25 years old director. I just made my first movie called "The Designer", a no budget film using only a Canon 550D and a kit lense 18-135 EFS and also a goPro Camera. It's an action short film with car races and a dramatic impact on the end of the film. No professional or amateur actors. Just friends. No script ever written. All in my head. Direction/Editing/Sound Editing/Trailer VoiceOver/Visual Effects all by one person. The music was written by a friend and it's also a home production using orchestral music. It took us a lot of time and a lot of struggle to manage this final result. The movie was started as a small trailer and ended as a middle length 32 minute film. We also won two awards in the Accolade Competition in California. This is my first post in this forum and I am very excited to be here with people that we all share our same passion. Right now I want to start new projects and ideas. I have 2 scripts in my mind and looking for people to cooperate with and shoot something the way it should be. Let's say that this movie was my personal university in filmmaking. It showed me the ways. I now start to walk them. Please come with me. This is the movie trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVoo8MVE3R0 Please WATCH the whole movie here: www.thedesignermovie.com/watch.php You can see information about the movie right here: www.thedesignermovie.com My personal portfolio can be found at www.skoumas.net
  10. Hi there, at the moment I'm trying to find a light setup for a online guitar lesson video. I'm rolling on a 5D mk3 with a 24-105 f4 Lens. I'm posting here because I'll have to rent lights and wanted to know if my lighting setup would be good. Just some impressions to the scene. Filmed is just one perspective - from the front, framing around the head, guitar headstock, bottom of guitar and somewhere in the middle of the right arm. The background is deep, so no background paper or similar directly behind the talent. There are no windows, so no daylight. I drew a rough idea of the setup. Is that an acceptable setup or am I totally wrong? Are Watts sort of right? What would you suggest? Thank you very much, Pablo
  11. I'll be using a strobe (flash) on an HD shoot. I've seen this in the past but it never seems to work well (strobe duration and shutter angle/shutter speed issues). Any ideas, tips or thoughts you can share with me?
  12. Hey Everyone, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the lighting and camera movement in this short film I shot. I'm fairly young and new to the industry. I've learned through on set experience and from reading as well as watching films. I must say american cinematographer magazine has been one of the most helpful resources i've ever used. Anyways, back to the point here is the film. 95% of the shots are mine, except for a couple cut aways in the restaurant scene. Its online here: http://markaklassen....r-film-festival Thanks so much! i look forward to collaborating more with this community.

  14. Hello! I'm on a 60D and have typically cropped everything to 1.85 aspect ratio in post. Lately, we've started cropping to 2.35 because it looks awesome but I'm finding it really difficult to frame shots and visualize the look on the screen during actual shooting without leterboxes in the camera's live view. Like this: http://www.handheldh...s/panascout.jpg I know this is one option: http://static2.filma...04/image013.jpg But I'd really rather not put tape on the camera. I also would like to stay away from physically blocking the lens because we switch primes and they all have different diameters. I also would like to avoid Magic Lantern because the last time I tried it, it just slowed down everything and the way it loaded screens looked scary. Is there no way to internally work with canon's software to make live view letterboxes? I'm essentially looking for the least destructive way (for the camera) to see framing in different aspect ratios. What do other people typically do? Thanks in advance! Matt
  15. Hi Guys, just wanted to let you know that I created an open group on Linkedin.com where you can request any shot from a city or a place in the world. If any member lives in this city or place, he can then provide the desired shot. World Cities Shots has just been created, so this is a young community I would like you to join so we can grow together from many Countries and Cities all over the world and share our loving city for Short films for example, and help every film maker to locate its story in another place even if shot locally. I had this idea since I am directing and producing my first Korean movie (located in Korea with Korean actors and Korean lines, but still, shot in Paris !). So I first tryied to find contacts in Korea and I had the thought that what I wanted to do is looking for an answer for every film maker that imagine a story at the other end of the world. World Cities Shots is a free DSLR shots exchange community where every souls can ask and be provided from cities or places he's dreaming of for its movie. Please, feel free to discuss here any suggestions about the concept. I really hope you'll join us ! 17. Hello, this is my film, 64 cents, which won an award for best Drama at the Cal State San Marcos Film Festival. I co-directed, but did all cinematography of this piece. We received a lot of praise for the camera work among teachers and peers, but I'm looking for more opinions, or what i can improve on. It is about a young boy returning to his home, years after an apocalypse following y2k. Feel free to comment on this forum or the video's page. thank you. WWW.vimeo.com/braceylemons/64cents
  18. Canon 7D: $1000 I'm selling my Canon 7D Body package. It's in excellent condition with very few actuations. Very few scuffs on the base near the tripod hole, and a small (1/4") rip in the plastic on the top of the eyepiece cushion. Purely cosmetic and does not effect the function of the camera. Otherwise, it's in perfect condition (eyepiece clean, LCD clean and scratch/scuff-free, sensor is clean. It served as a backup to my 5d Mark II, and both were primarily used for video shooting. So, the shutter is very much still fresh! It comes with a Canon LP-E6 battery and a Canon LC-E6 charger and an 8GB Sandisk Extreme III CF card. Also included are the manuals, software, A/V cables, USB cable, and original packaging. PM or Email me with questions! I can also send detailed photos if you request them. I'll ship to anywhere, buyer pays shipping/insurance. It's located in Boston, if anyone wants a local pickup.
