  1. I have a few Schneider Arri standard mount lenses, but I am a little unsure of their history/differences: Of two 16mm lenses, one is labeled only Xenon f1.9/16mm; the other is f2/16mm and is listed as Arriflex-Cinegon. Of two f2/50mm lenses, one says "Made in Germany" and the other "West-Germany," both which also differ with labels of "Arriflex-Cine-Xenon" and "Cine-Xenon" respectively. Can anyone help point out some of the differences? Thanks much, Chris
  2. Hey guys, We are currently selling a Zeiss Distagon S16 super speed lens, MKII, scale in feet & metric, ARRI PL-Mount, 16mm, T1.2. Let me know if you are interested or have any questions.
  3. Hi everybody. Urgent question. I'm in the process to get Sponsorship for our documentary, we'll shoot with a BlackMagic Pocket Cam. We have 2 options for the Zoom Lenses we'll going to use: 1. Arri-Zeiss Zoom 11-110 S16mm PL Mount 2. Zeiss Compact Zoom CZ.2 28-80 T2.9 We're aware that both are great lenses. The S35 Compact Zoom would demand a Metabones Adapter, but that's no problem at all. I wonder which would you guys pick and WHY? Of course the S35 one is new, and that might be a benefit. Thoughts? Thanks, F
  4. Hello! I would like to know which is the main difference between master prime lens and high speed lens? thanks!
  5. I'm throwing ideas out because I'm interested in shooting 2.39 with standard 16mm film, which would thus require 2x Anamorphic Lenses with a 1.19 Frame on a standard 16mm strip, specifically this means fitting the largest 1.19:1 rectangle possible on 16mm, single perf or double, whichever gives more room efficiently without compromising steady feed. 1. Is it possible? 2. Who could manufacture such a film? 3. What would it cost? Thanks for reading this madness. -Steven
  6. Hey everybody After getting my Black Magic Pocket Cam, and a bunch of accessories, I'm about to start delving into the wonderful world, and perform some lens tests. I have 4 Schneider Prims, and 4 Kern Primes. The gear is almost complete. But I'm stuck in finding a solution for a ND Filter for these little primes. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if there's any that could fit a Matte Box? Not sure if that is still used. Thanks, F
  7. So, after surfing around the forums and googling, etc. I have sparked up some questions I have about cameras and such. I was reading the Catching Fire thread where Jo Willems and Dave Thompson have actually posted, which is downright awesome, but while reading some of their responses, I found myself getting a little lost. I'm 19 and have been shooting pictures (not much video) for about 5-6 years now and have picked up my fair share of knowledge on my own, and I've never had any "formal training", if we can put it that way. Anyways, I of course know all of the basics about equipment (or I believe I do) and composition and such, but I read articles of DP's being interviewed and then the Jo Willems forum post and I'm so confused sometimes. For example, a bunch of them keep talking about E, C and G lenses and I'm not sure what that translates to. Also I was wondering some stuff about anamorphic, and aspect ratios. I know about the common ones like 16:9 and such, but I've seen them post about 2.39:1, etc. I'm really trying to get this whole cinematographer thing to work after college, with moving to NY and what not, but I feel overwhelmed at times thinking about all the things I have yet to learn! Thanks in advance for any responses, everything is appreciated.
  8. Hello everybody, Came here today to ask for advice on building a set of Schneider Primes (arri st or c mount) for use with my black magic pocket camera. I have these both Arri ST mount primes: Schneider-Kreuznach Arriflex-Cinegon 16mm f1.4 Schneider Cinegon 10mm f1.8 So I was thinking on a 25mm and a 50mm to complete the set. Maybe a 75mm or up as well. And I need to know which ones should I get (the names, please) to have a set where they could be interchangeable, meaning I could keep a balance in the quality/looks. So I can chase around to buy them. Thank you all in advance.
  9. Recently I found an article showing Angenieux 12-240mm adapted to be used on Canon 7D making it a 38mm-768mm lens on APC sensor or 24-480mm in 35mm. Would this set-up work? Angenieux 12-120mm (cameflex) > M4/3 (adapter made by Hawk) > Doubler (teleconverter) > M4/3 to Canon EOS adapter > Canon 7D.
  10. Hi. Now that the Black Magic have been on the market for a while, I would love to hear any experience shooting with this camera? I am going to shoot a short film soon, where this little camera could be very cool to shoot at:-). Thanks, Henrik A. Meyer www.henrikameyer.com
  11. Hello, I just tried out my new wide conversion lens, Canon C-8, on a movie camera. What I recognized is, that when I focussed properly before putting the conversion lens on, that afterwards everything was blurred out (at max wide you don't see it that much, so this just goes for max tele)... maybe I should tell, that the conversion lens has a differenct thread size than the original lens from the camera (which isn't interchangeable). I don't know if this matters. So what could be the reason for that? How do I have to focus with it? Have I done anything wrong? And another question: How can I find out the thread size of the zoom lens, which doesn't have a description (and no information on the internet)? Maybe I am too goofy to google, so I could tell you the designation of it: "Angénieux 9-36 mm f/1.8" I measured it, but I am not sure if it's 37 or 38 mm .... I would be glad if I received an answer. :) Yours sincerely, Jan
  12. Hi everyone, I am looking for an old-fashioned lens to shoot a romantic scene. I am looking at a Angenieux 25-250 T3,7 zoom lens and was wondering if anyone already used this lens and what it looks like in terms of flare, aberrations, sharpness, color, and overall "swag" :D Thanks!! G.
  13. I'm using some rented Zeiss Super Speeds (T1.3) on a film I'm shooting on a Red Scarlet. When I tested them at the rental house everything seemed perfect, however now that I am using them outdoors I've found that when I stop down in bright sunlight (or any sunlight really) I can see the iris closing, leaving a kind of pale spot in the middle of the frame. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  14. I'm attempting to film a practical of a company leader and need some help with calculating the size of the various layers. What we're trying to accomplish is this: a camera will track a half moon/crescent shape. In front of it are about four layers that when combined make up our logo. As the camera moves from the side/start position to the middle/end position the layers line up and form the end image. my question is this: since the layers are different lengths away from the camera/lens how do I calculate how large to print each layer. I assume the layers closest to the camera have to be proportionally smaller than the back layers, correct? any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Hi my friend is thinking of buying a Canon 8-64 S16 lens for his Ikonoskop at a reasonable price. He did some test shots at the seller's premise. We saw chromatic aberration. What do you think of the CA in these, please? Is this to be expected from this lens in general? Or is it this particular lens, perhaps? Any input or advice welcome. Thank-you
  16. Hello, I am in the market for a PL prime set. especially a re-housing of k35/zeiss/contax/cooke/leica etc. Cineovision spherical would be ideal. hit me up if you have any PL re-house vintage prime lens sets FS! thanks
  17. Hello Everyone, I'm doing some research to get the best option quality/price for DSLR cinematography lenses. Zeiss CP2 looks great but they are quite expensive for my budget. But I found this Zeiss SLR lenses on their cinematography section http://lenses.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/en_de/cine_lenses/slr/slr_lenses.html So here are my questions: Has someone already used this SLR lenses? Is there a big difference with the CP2s? Are any other good options (on other brands) similar than those? Thank you very much !! Greetings from Ecuador !
  18. Has any one used these anamorphic lenses, if you have what do you think of them the image and which do you like the best. thanks for all your help Nippon scope Cineovsions MK1 Kowa pl set 40,50,75,100mm
  19. Hello all, I'm looking to strike a deal with someone on a long term rental on some equipment. The exact dates are still up in the air, but I'd need the gear for essentially the month of July 2013. (tentatively July 1st through the 22nd). If you are in NYC, that's ideal, if elsewhere we can pay to ship it depending on how much you are willing to rent it for. I'm looking for: A Sachtler 30 Tripod System: http://www.adorama.c....FUWo4AodpxMAqg A Fujinon HA42x9.7BERD Lens: http://www.fujifilmu...d-sd/hdtv-le... If you have the gear and are interested in renting it out (or know someone who is) post the best way to contact you (or just PM me). Thanks! Dan
  20. I'm shooting a short film with a friend this weekend, and we'll be shooting regular 16 on an Arri SRII (it's the last hurrah before her school sells off all their 16mm gear). There's no time or money to shoot/develop/transfer real lens tests, but I want to be sure that we can pull focus off the lens marks accurately. I'm renting the much lauded Cooke 9-50 zoom from a local rental house, and right now I'm thinking I will go in with our camera body, shoot a few feet off a test chart at various distances, and do a slop develop with some D-76. Then I'll set it out on a light table and check focus with a jeweler's loupe. Now, what I'm wondering is--will this actually tell me that the lens and body are all up to spec, or will I just be fooling myself? I was happy enough with this method for picking negatives when I was shooting 35mm stills, but I've never used it for anything that required a high degree of accuracy. Maybe there are other test methods out there that don't require going through the lab? We'll be going to at least a 1080p transfer, and since we're already cropping out of R16 and shooting on a zoom, I don't want to take any chances, even though the lens and body are both recently serviced and well cared for.

  23. CANON 11.5-138mm T/2.5 ZOOM CINEMA LENS SUPER 16 PL for sale ONE OF THE BEST SUPER16 ZOOM LENSES AROUND. SUPERB CONDITIONS. PERFECT GLASS. SMOOTH FOCUS. NEVER RENTED. Lens: 11.5-138 Canon T-Stop: 2.5 Mount: PL Min. Focus: 3ft. 6in. Weight (lbs): 3.75 Front Dia.: 95mm PL Mount. Perfect for Arri and Aaton super16 cameras and digital cinema cameras with sensor size up to Super16 .It works on RED cameras if these are used in 2K resolution (I personally shot a music video in this way and the images looked great). It should be perfect for the new Digital Super16 cameras like the Bolex D16 (http://www.digitalbolex.com/products/bolex-d16/) and the Ikonoskop A-Cam dll (http://www.ikonoskop.com/dii/) with PL adapters, since these have Super16-sized sensor. It should also work on the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera, according to an article on EOSHD.com, where they tested a very similar lens (Canon 8-64 PL) on that camera and it worked well. They only noticed a slight vignette at 8mm but this lens should not have that problem, as its minimum focal length is 11.5mm. See the article here (http://www.eoshd.com/content/9447/hurt-locker-lens-canon-8-64mm-t2-4-pl-zoom-perfect-companion-for-the-blackmagic-cinema-camera) Full details and more photos on BBlist: http://www.bblist.co.uk/item.php?item=34974 GBP 3,300. The lens is located in London - UK. Any inspection welcome. Collection in person is preferred, however I can ship it anywhere (shipping costs not included). For info: hello --at-- mzo --dot-- tv Thank You!
