  1. Hey all, I’m having an issue with the A Minima where the film doesn’t roll tight onto the take up spool in the magazine. This eventually will push film out of the mag and into the sprocket/gate area. I’ve also noticed sometimes it will spool around the feed sprocket. Is the film supposed to be loose on the take up spool? I made sure many times the film was correctly threaded and loaded. Even when the problem is happening it’s still locked onto the sprockets and still in the gate area. But it just bundles up and may eventually rip. I’ve managed to get it to thread tight on the take up spool twice but I did nothing differently so I’m unsure what’s happening. Any thoughts would be helpful thank you!
  2. There seems to be a problem with my Schneider-Kreuznach 10mm lens for Arriflex ST. Whenever I've used it it's produced a cloudy/fogging image (see image) - this happens whether I use a matte box or not. I enquired with one lens servicing/repair company here in the UK and they suggested that the doublet elements might have separated, if this was indeed the case, they quoted £450 to fix it. If it was an issue with the coating, however, they said that couldn't be fixed by them. I should say that they were going by the pictures i sent and didn't have the lens itself to inspect. Anyway, what's your advice regarding this? £450 sounds a great deal of money to spend on the lens, especially considering you can buy another one for less than that. What should I do? Any suggestions? It would be a shame for the lens to simply not be used anymore.
  3. Hey there. Question pertaining to an Arri SR2 and the Cinematography Electronics Precision Speed Control 2. I’ve got the Precision Speed Control 2 hooked up to my SR2 and set to 24fps. When I run the camera, there’s a bit of a clanking sound and it sputters around 10fps for about 5secs, then ramps up to 40fps for about 5secs, then ramps back down to around 10fps. All in all, pretty out of control. As I’ve messed with it, it has hit 24fps for a sec, then starts running wild. I ran the camera without the Speed Control and it ran smooth. Two questions. 1. Any troubleshooting ideas? 2. (probably a dumb question) can you run the camera without the Speed Control and be fine if the project will have no sound sync? I’ve only ever shot with a Speed Control so if I resorted to shooting without it, it’d be a new experience. Thanks!
  4. Im new to the forum and have a long question, but I have read a lot of posts here before so I am turning to you all for help! I bought my first super 8 camera, a Canon 310xl a couple of months ago, and in January, I bought two cartridges of Tri-X reversal to shoot with. I am a college student, so I did not have a chance to shoot until last week, so until then I kept the two carts in the fridge to keep cool. So last week, I finally opened my first box of Tri-X and loaded it into my camera. I notched hack the cart so I could control the built in filter as well! I turned the camera on and pulled the trigger, and the film ran for about 30 frames before the film transport indicator in my viewfinder stopped running, indicating that the film was not moving. So i opened my camera and pulled the cartridge out and the film had snapped! The whole cart gone. So I chalked it up to maybe a faulty cart, so I loaded my second one. And you guessed it, the exact same thing happened! Both my catridges with snapped film. So my question: Why did this happen and what can I do to fix it? I don't know enough about yet to be able to figure out whats causing the film to just break. Did the film get brittle from being in my refrigerator too long? Or is something wrong with my camera, is it too fast? Is something wrong with the takeup hooks? I just don't know. I have called Kodak about getting replacements, but scared that the same thing will happen again. If you may know anything about why my film is breaking after 30 frames I would appreciate your help. Im a college student, I can't afford just buying more film if I will never be able to shoot with it. Thanks!
  5. I just purchased a Kodak Instamatic M6 from ebay. It arrived in excellent condition, but was not working (the seller did not say it WOULD work) anyway I checked to make sure all the contacts were clean on the battery compartment, and the cartridge compartment looked decent...all in all it looked like it was in great shape. I opened up the auto exposure control battery part and there was only one battery in it and the battery was corroded a bit, so i removed it cleaned out the compartment and left the battery out. (I am going to buy the necessary two replacement batteries for the auto exposure control) The trigger pushed in, but the motor did not sound as if it were running. i pushed it several times but to no avail. (i think i heard the motor run for a split second twice, but nothing else) my friend looked onver the camera with me and we sprayed some contact cleaner on the regular battery contacts just to make sure. the trigger still did nothing. I held the camera up to my ear and heard a low sort of vibration, as if something completed a circuit inside the camera, but i did not push the trigger in...it was doing this by itself. I took the batteries out and it stopped. I came here and saw a forum post of someone having a similar issue and the replies suggested that the trigger may be "stuck" on or defective, or that the drive shaft gear is not working...because its neoprene and probably has broken because the camera is so old. FINALLY, after all that explanation my question is essentially what should I do now? I have a couple cartridges of film so i could pop one in and see if that works (but i dont see how that would change the trigger) or should i try and take it apart and clean the contact with the trigger, or is it the gear....or basically what are my options.
  6. Hi, i got this beautiful BOLEX H16 EL, MKIII, first of all please confirm that if its MKII or MKIII Version, ? Well i am having a issue to start this camera, i have managed to rebuild the battery with more powerful cells, and now its full ready, when i attach it with my camera, and press the shutter, all i get is 2 red lights with a (- and +) in the viewfinder, and after little time, the camera sounds little, like it moves the film part just a little and stops, and the lights gone, i have locked the shutter pressed and then i am plugging and unplugging the battery component, every time it moves a little and then shut down, in the attached picture i have mentioned an arrow and a red circle on the part which rotates once and then camera shut down, so can any technical guy can explain me what is this issue.? i think the camera is not damaged, as it powers on, and then off after rotating one frame. i turned all the speed but the same behavior for all speeds. So what i am basically missing.? do i have to insert the reel to make it work.? or what.? I will also try to put a video for clear views. But kindly guide me. or if someone have made any video for running this camera then please share. or any service manual if it needs service. Thanks.
