  1. Hi, Can anyone tell me if the Bauer A512 only actually starts the filming mechanism with a cartridge inside? I picked up one of these for quite cheap and it looks to be in decent shape, popped in 6 fresh AA batteries, set the top switch to indicate the power to show the green dot, pressed the trigger and...nothing happens. And if it is supposed to start up without a cartridge, any ideas as to what's causing the problem? The contacts of the battery compartment seem clean to me. Thx!
  2. Has anyone tried making their own external power source for a Bauer 715? I recently rolled the dice on a relatively inexpensive Bauer 715 and the good news is that it does run. ...The bad news is that it only runs if I hold the battery compartment in the perfect position. One problem is that the white plastic "battery housing" or battery holder is missing so the batteries move around quite easily. I may have at least temporarily conquered that with some tape. Anyone familiar with Bauer 715 probably already knows that the lid for the battery compartment is broken and won't stay attached without some extra help. I could try ordering parts but I wonder if anyone has tried getting around these problems by simply creating an external battery belt or battery pack. This idea was actually suggested by an employee at the local hobby shop and it sounds easier to me than fussing around with spare parts. Looking inside the battery compartment it appears the first step to getting deeper inside the camera are 3 yellow/gold flat-head screws. I can get at them but they don't seem easily moved. Might they be glued in? The camera runs off of 6 AA batteries, so I think that means 9 volts are required. So maybe get a battery holder for 9 volts (holds 6AAs) and wire that into the camera once the contacts 9for the AA batteries are removed ??
  3. Hi folks, I own a Porst 650 XL and Porst 1500 XL Microcomputer and was wondering about the the precision of the split viewfinders on each of them. I read the instructions which instruct me to zoom in all the was, focus zoomed in, the zoom out to a desired wider angle. When I zoom in to focus, the split finder lines up, but the split finder lines do not stay aligned upon zooming out and I guess I thought the lens should be parafocal upon zooming. Does this mean my split viewfinder is not accurate? Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks, Greg Lytle
  4. I'm new to super 8 filmmaking, and I'm wondering if any of you folks know how I can find a portable tape recorder compatible with the sync capabilities of a Bauer Royal 8. I want to be able to record in a period correct setup, but since sound film is no more, sync will have to do. Thanks.
  5. Hello, recently I bought a Bauer s 207 xl from eBay in unknown condition and long behold it was the victim of battery acid leakage. Unfortunately during me repairing the thing two darn wires broke, found where the first orange wire goes but this gray and green wire has me confounded and looking for answers. So here is all I know it is the close vicinity to the batt. test switch and then goes to a pot and a resister. But tracing it out and even ohming it out did not turn anything up. So this is where I'm at ether I need a service manual or if any one has this camera, to tell me where this wire goes. I will include pictures in the two media fire direct links for what the wire looks like and where it comes from. Help will be appreciated, signed Avery first time super 8 shooter. http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/98d0/ibaq29ht766idzrzg.jpg?size_id=e what the wire looks like http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/f1f6/0hiuuizfbed9ijhzg.jpg where it comes from (Sorry if these are not clickable links I am doing this from an iPad)
