  1. Hey all, Just wanted to share an article about the making of my upcoming second feature to see what you all think. You can read it here. It's a little more production focused than cinematography but thought I wanted to put it here too. You can watch the trailer here: Thanks, Dan
  2. Does anybody know where I can find a list of micro-budget (under $100K US) feature films that are streaming somewhere online? Preferably recent films--last five years, if I can find them. I'm producing and directing a film along those lines and want to research the competition, but can't figure out how to find these movies. Everything I've tried Googling just yields a list of breakout indies or classic zero-budget indies I've already seen. Where are the sorta-good, sorta-shitty movies that don't suck but didn't necessarily break out? Thanks!!
  3. I'm very excited to share this piece I DP'ed a year ago, we all had great time with this one. I'm very interested in learning, so all feedback and insights are welcome. Cheers! I Need My Space is a humorous tale of infidelity, frustration, and ultimately adventure. The story is focused upon the life of elderly engineer, Esko and his unfaithful and nagging wife Tarja. Looking for an escape from a life that is an unsatisfactory mix of dull and painful, Esko decides to build his own rocket ship and blast himself into space. The award-winning independent film was shot over the course of 4 days and with a budget of only €1200. The film will be released for public viewing on June 21st, 2017.
  4. Hi, I've been assigned to shoot and direct and documentary in Nepal in two months time and I'm looking to gear up for the shoot. The project is a low budget / indie documentary for which I thought to get the Sony A7s ii for the job for its low light conditions as most likely I'd use very little available lights. I own a Blackmagic 4K ef mount which I plan to sell as I find it to bulky and heavy for the job and not great on low light. I am currently looking for lenses, and understanding more about the different type of glass. I'm looking for recommendations I want to achieve a filmic / cinematic look, nice aesthetics, soft nice skin tone and color rendition rather than sharp HD video and I have a very little budget to cover the whole rig. I even thought of old film slr lenses to give me a softer look but I am scared of vignetting of which would be best to go for. The documentary will be 30 mins highly visual, poetic biopic rather than talking heads, so any help on the choice of lense would be great . I currently own Nikon prime DX 50, 85 mm 1.4 lenses but don't think they're good enough or if it'd vignet. I'm not super technical so any advice on this would really help, many thanks.
  5. Episode 9 of the Indie Film Academy Podcast, I'm talking with Caleb Pike about the best cameras available for indie filmmakers. http://www.indiefilmacademy.com/ifa-9-caleb-pike-dslr-video-shooter/
