  1. Both male and female faculty internalize the idea that responsibility for raising children precludes serious art and then they recapitulate it. Takeaway from UPenn 2010...“most successful female artists are either childless or lesbians.” https://hyperallergic.com/708715/how-mfa-programs-perpetuate-the-taboo-against-artists-having-children ---------- I guess it is not kosher nowadays to tell artists that. People get mad if you tell them the truth. What is promoted nowadays is the idea that you can do or be anything you like. I'm just glad I don't have to be responsible for kid/s. I could not stand the stress nor the cost. Nowadays, it is enuf stress just paying for rent for a closet and some food. Besides artists, lots of Americans have cut back on having babies. Some say it is to save the planet. But I think a lot of it is...babies are too $$. It is not like the old days with granny was taking care of the babies. People are spread out. No granny to be found. And in some locals, hard to even get a babysitter. My advice to artists... You had better be successful with your art if you want babies or be married to a non-bohemian to pay the bills. A 2 bohemian couple may have a tough time nowadays. Cheap artists' lofts or cold-water flats are long gone. And if babies are a must, and your income is uncertain, then you need to be well versed with how welfare works.
  2. Hello community, I am extatic to be a part of this forum. I am a recent gradute with a Bachelors of Science in Communications Technology consentration in Video Production from the New England School of Communications. I now reside in Las Vegas and have been looking into seeking a higher education. A few programs I have considered in my search are Bachelors in Film and Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing to name a few. I have several goals I wish to achieve in my life time in the film industry, which include being a cineamtographer and writer to name a few. I am very very interested in furthering my education but want to make sure i get the proper degree that will help me get a job and not just look good on my resume. Can someone please assits me with some advice on this matter, and any degrees or programs that you know of that will be beneficial for the job market of the future. 3. I'm looking to complete an MFA in cinematography in California. I have significant experience as a DoP but I would like to experience the big budget approach to lighting and camerawork in general. All the while completing an MFA. I am also looking for the school that would offer the maximum hands on experience (with all sorts of DP gear) as I am looking to complete the maximum amount of hours of shooting in an academic setting. Focus on narrative fiction. I have looked at USC, NYFA, AFI, UCLA..... All seem to have really good curriculums but I'm trying to find out which one works better for me. Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of comparing the various schools in California? Post studies job placement is an issue as well..... regards
