  1. Hello all, So as I talk to my friends and coworkers who are DPs and have talked to more ASC members about their beginnings, one common trait I have come across is that they have a mentor. Some have been taken under the mentor's wings by either the MENTOR asking them or vice versa. I want to hear from any other DPs and their experience with this? I was talking to a Script Supervisor on set recently and she was telling me that she emailed Script Supervisors that she hasn't even met and some have responded (union members) answering her questions and offered her to learn from them (as in to additionally come on set). Are there any experiences like this from any of you that you can share? What are some different ways to obtain and seek a mentor without coming off "forcefully" or "desperate" to get into the business? Thank you!
  2. Just wondering if anyone found this beneficial. It seems packed with excellent information, but your subscription does not grant you access to past content, only current. https://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/shanesinnercircle/ I'd like to know if Shane answers specific questions from subscribers like a real mentor would. And not only "sometimes" of course. So even if you have to pay for additional content once you are a subscriber, I think it could be worth it based on the samples I've seen.
  3. Hello all, I'm interested in discussing mentorship as an option for learning and refining skills. Going to film school isn't an option for everyone. What would a Cinematography mentorship look like? What is the bast way to approach somebody for a mentorship? I'm asking because I'm looking to work with and learn from an experienced cinematographer and I'm sure many others out there are looking for the same thing. I have some experience myself and am going to be making a major camera purchase soon. I'm no beginner but I'm not advanced. Is there any experienced Cinematographers out there who have done this? What was the experience like? Thanks
