  1. Has anyone used the Miller Sprinter II Carbon Fiber legs? I haven't be able to find any Youtube reviews on it; how do they compare with the Flowtechs? I'm in a bit of a dilemma, as I'm trying to replace my Miller Solo legs. Those Solo legs with twist locks aren't very convenient on small shoots where I have to operate the camera with no assistants -- adjusting height becomes very cumbersome. So my options are either: Replace the Solo legs with Sprinter II, and use my existing Mill Compass 15 head, OR Go all out and get the Flowtech 75 with the Aktiv8T head Option 1 will save me a bunch of money, but I know a good set of tripod is worth its weight in gold. So if the Sprinter II isn't that great compared to the Flowtechs, I'm willing to invest! I just need some real word opinions from people who've used the Sprinter II's, since none of the stores local in my city has a set for me to test.
  2. I can't remember the last show I saw with a beautiful audience-wowing pan or sudden scene-stopping tilt. And with all the gimbals, and sliders, and ever-more intricate computer-controlled remote camera heads available does it make sense to bother with a fluid head on sticks anymore? Or are styles of camera movement cyclical and we'll see cinematographers dust off their Vintens and O'Connors for a renaissance of classic camera moves? Or am I just not very observant and can't see that fluid head moves are as common as they ever were?

  4. I want to apologize, I'm not at all well-versed in tripod/head gear. What I just received in the mail from an online auction is a Gitzo Studex tripod with a Miller Super 8 fluid head. I chose this mainly for the brand reputation and the "super 8" name- that's what I'm shooting on. There are no real issues with it. The tilting action is smooth and it even pans smoothly, if a little slowly. However I don't see a mechanism for the panning. It seems to me it is just rotating on the mount screw threading. Is this its intended use? I ask because there is still a possibility of return. Also, I may change tripods later and would still need a good panning function. Hope that's clear. Thanks.

  6. Looking into buying a used tripod for the aaton XTR plus. These things are obviously very pricey so my question is, what is the bare minimum required for the weight load of the camera? I understand there are different circumstances with it being rigged up with a bunch of accessories and monitors vs. a minimal set up. Could you guys recommend some options i can look into? Some lower tier and mid tier tripods that support the camera? I've used an O'connor 2575D fluid head before. Would a manfrotto 546GB work for instance?
  7. FS: Sachtler 5390 heavy duty carbon fiber tripod. It features a 100mm bowl, and it supports up to 210 lb. It also includes the heavy duty floor spreader. This tripod weighs just a little bit more than the standard Sachtler CF tripod, but it’s WAY stiffer with it’s beefier legs. It's in great condition, but it does have scratches which are to be expected with a used tripod. The built in handle at the top of the tripod is in rough shape as you can see in the photo, but other than that, it’s functioning perfectly. Asking $1500 Located in Phoenix, but willing to ship within the US if the buyer pays with Paypal and covers shipping.
  8. Hello Everyone, This listing is for a Cartoni Gamma G100 Fluid Head with quick release plate. The condition is very good with the head being extremely fluid, counter-weight knobs working smoothly, and the brakes holding strong and effectively. This head is extremely durable, has a 100mm ball base, and made to hold cinema cameras from 15lbs up to 35lbs. It has a sliding plate (extremely useful) and quick release plate, which makes mounting and removing the camera a breeze. The handle bar is a Manfrotto, which I fitted to the head via an adapter I made. Adorama is selling one on eBay, in much worse condition than the one I am offering here, for $1100 plus tax. I am offing mine for $800 + PayPal fee + shipping. If you want the ultimate fluid head, at a very reasonable price, this is it. Should you have any questions, please let me know. Cheers, Igor

  10. Hi, So, post-travel, my Sachtler 20P system came out of the shipping tube, and the 2-stage heavy duty carbon fiber sticks got the usual examination for damage, and, suddenly I had CF splinters in my hand from a fair-sized crack in one of the outer sticks. These are the heavy duty 2-stage sticks, from a awhile back I'm assuming, as the 20P is a few models ago. I'll need to look into the stick model, specifically, sorry. If it helps I can take pictures later. But I assume you can imagine the damage. Anyone have any tips for repair? Is sending to Sachtler the main option? Experiences with any other Sachtler-ready outfits or shops would be most welcome. Also, what can I expect to pay for a new / replacement (single) stick (for the outer, upper stage)? Thanks a million, Isaac
  11. $3600 OBO O’connor 1030S With Sachtler DA-100L Sticks. Condition is Used. Head works perfectly. Pan and tilt locks work well. Pan and tilt adjustment has no issues. Shows signs of wear and tear but works perfectly. I bought a 3rd party plate that is just a little loose (I put tape on the plate to keep it tight which worked fine) but I’d recommend getting a brand name replacement plate if you want. Comes with a hard case https://www.ocon.com/products/support-accessories/mini-euro-plate/

  19. Hey everyone. I currently have the O'connor 1030ds which is a great head, but I find myself shooting on longer lenses and wonder if I might be better served with the 2560. I'm shooting on an F55 and when paired with the Canon 30-300, mattebox, follow focus etc., tips the scales at almost 35lbs. It's not the increased weight capacity that I'm after, just more stability. At 200-300mm, a very light touch is required on the 1030ds. Does a larger head make operating any easier? The extra weight of lugging around the 2560 I can deal with. I just want to make sure I'm not dealing with diminishing returns in performance. Thank you. Craig.
  20. Selling my Sachtler DV-8/100 SB fluid head with Sachtler ENG 2 D 2-Stage aluminum legs and SP100 ground level spreader. While this head has been discontinued by Sachtler (B&H offers the FSB10 head as the current equivalent and currently sells that head with the ENG 2 D legs for $3263.00) I have to say that both the legs and the head are in incredibly good condition with little signs of physical wear. All of the parts work as they should. The legs should have a retractable cable for binding the legs during transport, but the cable has been missing since I bough this whole package. The package I am selling also includes the quick release plate with mounting screws, handle and I will throw in the Vinten brand soft carrying case as well. Head: Sachtler DV-8/100 SB The DV8/100 SB Fluid Head, with its payload of 26.4 lbs, offers high-precision and extremely fast counterbalance. The 'SB' in the DV-8SB stands for SpeedBalance - it has a 12-step indexed counterbalance system for fast, repeatable setups. Similar to larger filmic fluid heads, it features 5-step fluid drag, a self-illuminated Touch Bubble for leveling with the 100mm half-ball base, and tap holes for mounting cine-style finder supports. In addition to finer counterbalance graduation, SpeedBalance heads also have an increased payload range, including a reduction in minimum payload, this makes them ideal for cameras ranging from lightweight camcorders to broadcast and digital cinema cameras, along with accessories. The DV 8/100 SB has a 100mm half-ball base for easy leveling. With all these new developments, Sachtler has continued to follow its secret of success step switching. It allows camera operators to optimally balance the fluid head and camera in no time at all. While stepless systems often require time-consuming adjustments by trial and error, graduated-step counterbalance gives you perfect set-ups on demand. • Indexed Counterbalance and Fluid Drag For fast, repeatable setups with varying payloads • Touch and Go Quick-Release System For speedy setups and take-downs without compromise • Left-Hand Rosette For left- and two-handed pan arm configurations • Ground-Level Spreader Ensures maximum stability, and protects delicate floors Weight: 2.6 kg / 5.7 lb Payload: 1 - 12 kg / 2.2 - 26.5 lb Sliding range - plate: 60 mm / 2.4 in Counter balance: 12 steps Grades of drag: 5 each horizontal and vertical + 0 Tilt range: +90 / -75° Temperature range: -40° to +60° C / -40 to +140° F Camera fitting: Touch & Go Plate DV 8 Tripod/Pedestal fitting: 100 mm bowl, integrated flat base fitting Pan bar(s): 1, Type DV 75 Level: self-illuminating Touch Bubble Tripod: Sachtler ENG 2 D The Sachtler ENG 2 D has double extension dural aluminum tripod legs with a 100mm bowl and a maximum load of 77 lbs.
