  1. I am making a low-budget short film in July, where the actor punches through the passenger window while another character sits in the passenger seat. They'll be multiple takes, so I want at least 10 breakaway windows. I've tested sugar glass, but it's tinted yellow. I've thought of using food coloring to try and dilute the yellow, but in case that doesn't work, I want other options. SMASH! Plastic (from smooth-on.com) looks realistic & clear. But don't want to pay $200+ for it. Is there some way I could make this plastic concoction on my own? Or another method to make smooth & clear glass under $100 for 10 windows?
  2. Scarlet Dragon with a 6k sensor for sale in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada! Not used since it’s most recent service in Toronto Ontario last year. Low hours! Includes EF mount! Proving to be a bit too expensive for me to build out so I’m selling the brain for cheap! Specs are as follows: https://support.red.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011397693-SCARLET-DRAGON-Specs
  3. There is this old one ... https://variety.com/2009/digital/features/is-it-really-cheaper-to-shoot-in-digital-1118008522/ And a 2015 indie experience https://www.moviemaker.com/archives/moviemaking/cinematography/film-v-s-digital-is-the-expense-of-shooting-on-film-a-misconception What's your thoughts generally (not only on the articles...)
  4. https://www.ebay.com/itm/293086201571 It comes with Pelican Case, Articulating arm, Battery, adapter, and even a 256GB SSD! I have tested everything before posting the auction and everything works flawlessly. Minor cosmetic wear on the magnetic screen hood, but it still works perfectly.

  6. Hi, I was browsing through different online shops for some bargain split diopters (a set of filters, 77 or 82mm), but I haven't found anything reliable yet. I don't have the budget to spend on new filters for 200+ dollars. Does anybody know where can I get used, cheap and sharp split diopters? Any help would be appreciated :)

  8. The main up-side to the DSLR is that it is small & light & so any paraphernalia (steady cam, jib, slider etc.) designed for DSLRs will be a lot cheaper than for bigger heavier camcorders. The JVC GY-LS300 seems like a pretty small, light camcorder. Is it small & light enough for cheap equipment usually reserved for DSLRs?

  10. I have been looking for a nice and cheap 16mm camera to start with. I don't mind if I have to do some work on it to get it running, as long as it's do-able. the requirements are that it needs to be capable of getting footage that looks good by todays standards, should be between 100-600$ lower the better, (I have to be able to pay for film after buying it). If it doesn't have a motor is it all that hard to make one? will it look like super 8 If shoot with it? Is there any thing I should know? What other cameras should I be looking for? It's things like this that make me aviod a bolex. I've seen better thing shoot on super 8 max 8, like this. I'm going for something like this. I know it's a bolex in the first one. but there are some reasons I don't really want one, including stability. If I had money, I'd want something like this. This is what I'm looking for, in the sense of quality. I'd get a Krasnogorsk 3 if i'd wern"t for being a wind up and only taking 100' of film. I need to blimp what ever I get unless it's self blimped. Krasnogorsk 3 test, ignore the flicer, thats from the eye pice not being covered. P.S. I also consderd a canon scoopic. also how do you control and focus a camera thats blimped, expshilly if it's a home made one? Do I really need a sync motor? Also sorry for being so long with the question. cameras I'm talking about. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Professional-16-mm-movie-camera-KRASNOGORSK-3-M42-lens-Meteor-/401049505137?hash=item5d6069cd71:g:-PMAAOSwwPhWh7Bc http://www.ebay.com/itm/16CP-M-Professional-Movie-Camera-Body-Rare-Russian-ARRIFLEX-16-/272183791532?hash=item3f5f6b0fac:g:6MwAAOSwB4NWywx2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Konvas-1m-Russian-35mm-movie-camera/361508887641?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36188%26meid%3D36d99c4c1a5c43dcb9afad67dbb73f09%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D121882012376 http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARRIFLEX-ARRI-16-S-B-GS-16mm-FILM-CAMERA-BODY-/262349651275?hash=item3d1541fd4b:g:7C4AAOSwP~tW4RCs
  11. I've been following this guy's videos for a while now and he's built a few things such as lighting gear for very cheap but nothing I had never seen. In his last video he shows how to build a light panel that aims to simulate a window, from old laptop screen. I really think that this is something that could have many applications for filmakers on a budget. The result seems very soft and close to what you could obtain with very expensive gear. Maybe there is another type of DIY gear that is close to this one but anyway, this is the first time I see something like that and I think it's awesome !
  12. I received a couple of those giant 5600k CFL bulbs recently for free and they are rated >90 CRI, so I thought maybe I could use this for some small setups where a little extra daylight fill is needed and I'm out of lights. Does anyone know what sort of fixture/reflector design would provide maximum light output for a 150w E27 fluorescent bulb? EDIT: I think this is what I’ve got: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Portable-Photo-5500K-150W-E27-Color-daylight-Video-Studio-Fluorescent-Bulb-Lamp-220V-240V-015558/1117010666.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.1.7MRtR5&ws_ab_test=201526_4,201527_3_71_72_73_74_75,201409_4
