  1. I have a Zeiss 85mm f1.2 (50th anniversary) lens which originally had a Contax/Yashica mount. When I bought the lens it came with an Aaton mount. I want to install an EF conversion mount which I bought from Simmod, but it requires the original C/Y mount to be present, in order for it to attach to and I guess sit at the right height for flange distance etc. I've tinkered with making a shim/spacer out of a Canon lens cap, but it's not exactly as good as a nice machined metal part. And it requires me to find longer screws.. Anyway, my questions would be: 1) What is the correct distance from rear element of this lens to sensor/film plane? 2) Is there a way to source a C/Y mount for this particular lens? (Note it's quite a bit wider at the base than many potential "donor" contax lenses, I know because I've already destroyed a 50mm f1.7 *sorry) 3) Do spec sheets, blueprints, technical data or papers exist in a public domain for this particular lens? 4) Could someone please point me in the direction of a good resource for understanding how the C/Y mechanism works? I seem to have begun my lens *home servicing journey on a rather expensive lens, and I'm pulling a few too many hairs out with anxiety... Many thanks and hello!
  2. Hi everyone, I recently bought a Bolex Rex 4 and wanted to get it serviced and converted to a super 16. I've been trying to get a response from Bolex.com for months and sent numerous emails but with no success. I have also tried calling their number but instantly get cut off as if the phone number was not in use. The website says that their site is under construction but that they are still repairing and converting despite covid. Has anyone had any luck hearing from them lately?? Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone! I was enquired today to possibly shoot a commercial for both the UK and the US market. I wonder what is the latest and best workfloor to output both in NTSC and PAL. Would it be best to shoot PAL - here in the UK - and then later just convert the finished piece or have an external recorder, recording in NTSC while the camera records PAL? I wonder for the latest method if it'd be problematic to match the colour grading as the files might be different. Unless using two external recorders based on the same type of file? Has anyone gone through this recently or in the last couple of years? Thanks Luca
  4. I have a 4:3 16 mm Bolex (Rex4) in amazing condition. I’d like to convert it to super 16. I have reached out to the Bolex company in Bern, Switzerland but have not heard back from them. Does anyone have information about the status of conversions in Switzerland? as an alternate option does anyone know someone that does the conversion in the United States? I would be very thankful for any information that you can share with me. Thx, Jeffrey
  5. Like the subject line says, I am crazy and want to convert my Contax Zeiss set (f2.8/25, 1.4/35, 1.4/50, 1.4/85) to anamorphic PL. How stupid or expensive (most likely, both) is this idea, and who would you recommend to do such an insane task? The FAQ mentioned many anamorphics started out as Zeiss lenses in the first place. Joe Dunton : JDC comes to mind but if you have better ideas, I’d love to hear it. Thanks!
  6. Hello everyone! I will be shooting a small home movie for my family. My sis in law has a newborn coming soon and I i wanted to shoot in black and white. I will be shooting inside the hospital and her room. I was thinking for the extra light that I might need, shooting in Kodak 200t and converting to black and white in FCP. I'm new to this, but i'm thinking the extra speed over 7266 will get me slightly better exposure. I will be using my Canon 310xl. My question is, doing a 200t to B&W conversion, will anything be lost? shadow/high-light detail? I am also getting processed/scanned by the pro labs (not sure if that matters). OR should I just get the Tri-X 7266 and shoot with confidence. I mean, the 310xl has a pretty wide aperture so I can see how it can be used with no issues. Thanks in advance!

  9. Hello, I have a lens that I like, it's Tokina 28-70mm f/2.6. The lens focus ring is both auto and manual, I want to leave it at manual at all times. Is there a way to adjust it to stay on manual?
  10. Hi all. This is my first post as a member. I'm thinking that this is the place to get some answers to a new project. I recently purchased a Baltar 75mm f2.3 lens. I'm attaching a photo, that will show you the mount. I got it at a deeply discounted price, so I thought that there are two possible options for it: 1. re-sell 2. find a way to convert/adapt the lens to be used on my Canon 5DMkII *** this is preferred, I'm a still photographer, but love old lenses I have been searching online for companies that work with old lenses, and most will clean lenses, but do not offer conversion service. But I'm assuming that I'm looking in the wrong places. So here are my questions so far, for which I have no answers: 1. what lens mount does this lens have? 2.Is there an adapter to EOS, or to another mount (M42?) that could be adapted to fit? 3. Doe this lens have the ability to focus, or is it in the camera mount? 4. I have seen this lens mounted into what looks like a Nikon 50mm f1.8 deconstructed lens. This might be interesting, but I can't find the person who is doing it, or any technical info on how to do the conversion. Any other information about would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -John
  11. Hello all, I have recently bought an Angenieux 12-120mm type 10x12 B lens for the Blackmagic Pocket Camera. Upon buying this lens, I believed it to be a C mount; to my surprise, it is not. Could someone help me identify what type of mount this lens has exactly? Thanks, John W. King
  12. Hello There, I am an avid gear head and film student. For one of my classes I have choosen to write a research paper on the change from shooting mostly on film to mostly digital or as its called the "digital revolution". I am just curious how prevelent a change it has been on set and overall in the industry for actual professionals compared to what I have been reading. Also if anyone happens to have any good articles on the subject I would be much interested to check them out. thanks, Peter Lyngso
