  1. Though I know it's not to everybody's taste, I really like the small, hard eyelight used in Westworld. Particularly for the hosts (robots), I think it makes them feel colder. I'm working on a short production that will be shot entirely at night, and I'd like to do something similar. Usually, my key or fill serves as an eye light. However, in the following images, I'm not certain the key or fill is the source of the eye light. At least it doesn't look like it. Any idea what they're doing? Thanks as always for the collective wisdom.
  2. Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their techniques on getting eye light for close ups. I've heard the best way is to have a large soft source as far away from the subject as possible so as not to get any spill onto the face. Then again I've seen an image of Wally Pfister on the Dark Knight Rises using what looks like a 1x1 LED panel with a layer of diffusion right next to the lens (during the ballroom dance scene with Anne Hathaway). This would be a perfect example, the thumbnail used for the trailer of this film titled Violet shot by Nicolas Karakatsanis:
  3. Hello, hoping someone out there can help me. I'm looking for the name or brand of soft light I once saw being used on a shoot. The light is a small 150w or 100w Soft 'ZIP Light' style fixture with an egg crate on the front. I'm looking to use it as a handy little eye light for a scene I'm doing next week. Has anyone ever heard of this light? Can't find one anywhere on the internet. Thanks, Ian
