  2. Had a lot of fun as co-producer, DP and colorist on this short film titled ITCH! Synopsis: A man with an uncontrollable ITCH on his hand goes through increasingly extreme measures to get rid of it. Writer/Director: Sean Patrick Kelly Producers: Dennis Hingsberg, Sean Patrick Kelly Editor: Jonathan Chiovitti Music score: Everett Dungeon Colorist: Dennis Hingsberg As mentioned, I was the producer, DP, and colorist on this short film (runtime 4 minutes) and it was shot on the Sony PMW-F55 in 16-bit 4K RAW. It was colored in DaVinci Resolve on my custom built Mac using the AVID Artist surface controller and a Flanders Scientific CM171 monitor. There's also a fan page with a ton of behind the scenes photos and funny stuff if anyone is interested, or wants to like the fan page for future updates: https://www.facebook.com/ItchFilmSKProductions/
  3. Hello all, My name is Robert, currently heading into my graduate thesis film production, with a question about shooting two different cameras over one production. During prep with the director, the idea of shooting 2 cameras came up as I was camera testing with a Canon c700 and the Canon Cine Primes, which I have decided to use as an A camera. As it stands, our budget won't allow for a second c700 to act as B camera, however we currently have an f55 w/ Ultra Primes reserved from the school's equipment house. Having tested both cameras, I know that each camera possesses different characteristics and will not match right off the bat. That being said, does having a two-camera setup where the cameras are inherently different make sense given the differences in specs (color space, dynamic range, codex etc.)? Is it feasible given that it can be adjusted in the DI, and would it be possible to get the cameras close during production. Because of the different characteristics and looks, I have toyed with the idea of using each camera situationally based on their given strengths, but in some cases I would need to have a B camera available to support the A camera. I realize that I may be giving myself more work in the long run, and I'm sure there are things I am missing, but I would greatly appreciate any idea, advice and expertise on the topic. Thanks in advance, RC
  4. Hey, Im a filmmaking student and one of my assignments is to 'Get familiar with the depth of field charts for the Sony F55' Is there a simple video or explanation into depth of field charts and the calculations. Especially what circle of confusion is what what it does and why. Ive had people try and explain it but I can't grasp it it all sounds foreign to me when random numbers are involved. Many thanks. Ella

  8. Hi gang, I once worked with a shooter who had an F55 hooked up to a cheap computer monitor and I wonder what type it was and how it would be possible. The camera was shooting 4k I know that for sure but not sure if it was outputting 4k. Any know of a computer monitor that has sdi inputs? Or did he maybe have a converter from sdi to hdmi? Any thoughts or tips for a decent set up that wont cost the earth.. Thanks, Adam Dodd.

  11. Hello - I'm going to be shooting on a Sony F55 in a freezer room with temps ranging from about -30 to -70 fahrenheit (yes, negative). I'll only be doing short stints inside when it gets really cold - maybe 15 minutes at a time. I have a Portabrace Polar wrap for the F55 which is great. I plan to stuff some hand warmers in there as well. Does anyone have experience filming in these temps? If I'm going to be coming and going with frequency, our team is thinking we should leave the camera in the cold room, in the Polar Bag, and then inside a large standard Portabrace bag with additional hand warmers to keep the temps up. Better than coming and going? I'm concerned about condensation when I step out of the freezer and back into a normal 70 degree room. I'm planning to bring some big trash bags to create a vapor barrier liner around the camera in hopes that the condensation forms on the exterior of the bag. Should I plan to double bag it so the condensation happens between the two bags? Any tips, tricks, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  12. I am selling my mint condition Optitek ProLock Mark II. I used it about a dozen times on a F5 with various Canon EF lenses. This is a great option for using more the affordable Canon DSLR lenses on the F3/F5/F55. The KEY feature of the Mark II is that it is powered by the mount so so power cable is required. New was $1800, asking $1400. Make an offer! Pictures emailed upon request The Prolock EF has electrical contacts to allow powered control over the iris in 1/3 stop increments via keys on the mount. The mount adapter also provides power to IS stabilization and internal focus servos. When used with the Optitek Optitron Lens Controller, precision repeatable remote focus control is also available. The Optitek Prolock EF draws its power directly from the camera mount, so no additional cable is required. The Optitek Prolock EF also features a PL-style clamping lock ring on the Canon EF mount, assuring that the lens will not shift in the lens mount.
  13. I've just been finishing up an article about how Panasonic have a new handheld P2 camera that can record to off the shelf SD cards at up to 50Mbp/s and turned to the front page to discover David had posted this article: http://www.redsharknews.com/technology/item/1532-totally-unexpected-move-by-sony-f5-and-f55-cameras-to-support-prores-and-dnxhd WOW! Things are changing in the camera industry that's for sure! Freya
  14. I own a FS700 and we are shooting a multi cam shoot with one F55 because we need 4K. I want to shoot ready to edit and I'm using Cinegamma 4 in the FS700 as a base. How do I match the F55, I heard it doesn't have cinegamma settings.
  15. Hi Guys. I'm testing the PL Mount on the Sony F55 (v2 firmware). I have changed the Lens Interface to 'Type C' and mounted a Cooke Mini S4/i (or Panchro). The Data appears on the monitor but it is using Metric Values. As nearly all PL lens have imperial distance marks this serves no purpose for me. I can't find a menu setting to change this. Does anyone know of a menu setting or a firmware update to change this? Many Thanks, Darren.
