  1. Hi, I have been looking everywhere and have found absolutely NOTHING on how to tear and and repair/lubricate old C and S mount cine lenses by Kodak and Schneider. These lenses aren't worth the cost of sending out, but are too expensive to toss. I'd love to learn how to work on them. If anyone has videos, manuals, advice or links to help, I'd be VERY grateful. John

  9. Hey guys, I recently bought a Bealuieu 4008 ZM II . It looks very nice but I havent found a cheap external battery so it´s not powered yet. But U did some modifying on it (longer zoomstick, b+w filter etc.) I als deatached the automatic diaphragm system to get a more "pure" and manual feeling. But now when I look into the viewfinder the picture is not very sharp and when I try to focus with the focus ring nothing changes --- still the same unsharp image. Also when I look into the lens an move the focus ring nothing seems to move. Its kinda sad because the Schneider Optivaron 1.8/ 6-66mm is such a good lens and i reall dont want to buy a new one or send it to repair yet. Is this normal? Has anyone of yo had a similar problem with the lens? Help would be very great Lee
  10. We own a set of Schneider Xenon FF Prime lenses. Our lenses are PL mount but for an upcoming shoot we will need to use the lenses on a Canon DSLR. We purchased the mount conversion kit from Schneider to put an EF mount on but no instructions. It's seems straight forward enough but it would still be nice to hear if anyone has experience doing this. Biggest question is how many shims to use. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ray
  11. I've done a quick comparison of how various 35mm cine lenses render out-of-focus blur, quite fascinating if you're a lens geek like me. :) http://cinetinker.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/comparing-lenses-blur-characteristics.html I tried to include lenses from roughly each decade since the 1930s, by Ross of London, Meyer Gorlitz, Schneider Kreuznach, Bausch & Lomb (Super Baltars), Taylor Hobson (Cooke Speed Panchros), Cooke (S4s) and Zeiss (Super Speeds and Ultra Primes), with focal lengths as close to 32 or 35 as possible. I'd like to add some more frame grabs when I get time, and at least attempt to explain some of the variations. So it's a work in progress. Any suggestions or feedback welcome!

  13. These lenses are in excellent pristine condition, free of scratches, haze, fungus or dust. Each comes with a PL adapter (note: this adapter can be easily removed or installed with a hex key (adjustment will need to be made for exact flange focal depth of camera). It is currently on lightly since I only had a PL rear cap). 35mm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331828447547 Note: I do not have a front cap for this lens -- the lens has been stored with the front covered with lens tissue. Will ship it securely. S/N: 8902506 50mm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331828440881 S/N: 7431726 75mm: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331828444183 There is a ~1mm scratch on the front element directly in the center. I couldn't get it to resolve in these pictures and it certainly has no effect on the images this lens produces, which have been gorgeous. Otherwise free of scratches, haze, fungus or dust. 14. Hi all, Firstly, full disclosure: the question I am looking for advice on relates to still, rather than moving image. If this is is inappropriate please feel free to delete this thread and my account from the site. The reason I am posting here though is I am looking for advice on filters which seem to predominantly be used in film by Tiffen and Schneider, rather than photography. Screw in versions for dslrs etc are available (of black pro mist, soft fx, hollywood black magic filters etc) but all my local hire places stock only the versions used for video equipment, and enquiries on photo site forums have largely drawn a blank. The most useful information I've found online has been gleaned from this site. Basically I am looking for some kind of diffusion filter that would give an 'glamourous' effect similar to 70s instamatic cameras and polaroids. Good examples of this would be Antonio Lopez's instamatics and Andy Warhols polaroids - please feel free to put me right here, but it seems the slightly 'diffused'/soft quality comes from the combination of hard light which is diffused by a soft plastic lens. I've been trying to do this with a Zeiss Softar I lens using a flash, which although is a great piece of glass, doesn't quite do the job (example here). Hard to put my finger on why, but perhaps it blows out the flash highlights a little too far while losing too many of the darker tones, but subject matter from the example aside, I can't quite see it producing the desired glamorous results. I'm also looking for a little more subtlety - I want the effect to be visible but not dominant enough to seem gimmicky and I find the softar a little too much in that regard. Have also tried using plastic lenses but these suffered from a lack of control and loss of resolution. I'm thinking a Black Mist or Hollywood Black Magic filter might be good for this but being unable to find somewhere to try varying strengths etc I don't want to spend loads of money without a little more insight! If anyone is able to advise on this I would be most grateful! And if this post is appropriate for the forum, my apologies.
  15. Hi guys, hope I caught the right space to ask this info.. I was wondering if somebody knows wich anamorphic lens is best suited for my Nikon D5200. I'm looking for a 1.9x - 2.0x sqeeze, cheap one if possible. I found this model on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Schneider-ES-Cinelux-Anamophic-2x-MC-35mm-cinelux-2-0-67-5-UK-SELLER-/201480808707?hash=item2ee9312903:g:gkAAAOSwI-BWICri Is this one ok? Do I just need some clamps to attach it? Thanks, Ale

  19. First off, I want to say thank you to all the people who contribute to this forum - I’ve been lurking around for quite some time without posting much. You know the old adage... “If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all”... Well, by nice I mean something that could further the discussions - but quite often I find the answers before needing to ask! Anyway, I just got myself a s16mm Arriflex SR2 (PL mount), and I'm looking into prime lens options. I have a collection of 35mm and above format primes, but none suitable for this smaller gauge (they can obviously cover it but finding a good wide/normal lens out of my collection is a stretch). I’ve read in various places that some 16mm format lenses aren't compatible - they cover it but don’t physically fit with the Arri SRII or SR1. My question; what prime lenses which cover and/or are designed for super16 are compatible with my SR2 in the wide to normal focal lengths. I'm not looking for the newest and greatest optics available, but instead some quality vintage glass with character. Old lenses from the likes of Cooke, Schneider, Zeiss, Meyer, and probably any old German or Russian knockoff's interest me. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
  20. So, I finally got hold of a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II for a friend's production but despite working perfectly, being pristine, with a crystal clear Schneider Kreuznach 1.8 / 6-66 zoom and even a working rechargeable battery... I DON'T LIKE USING IT! The main problem is that I adore shooting Super 8 handheld and I just don't feel comfortable holding the 4008, as I struggle to get a good grip on the tiny handle. It works like a dream and is nice to operate in many ways but I feel like I'm almost balancing the camera uncomfortably on my hands rather than actually holding it whilst shooting. I know a few fellow Film-makers who adore the 4008 but I literally can't get to grips with it! Should I possibly add a larger grip underneath? Attempt to clutch hold of the camera differently? Or simply consign it to a tripod? Or am I doing something wrong? This beautiful piece of kit doesn't feel as instinctive to use in my own (not that large) hands.
  21. Hello People! Please help me if you are an expert in Arri's and 16mm's. I am confused. Reading a lot about Arri 16 BL and their specific bayonet mounts, lenses...adapters and manuals. My question is can any other lenses-which are not in the manual- be used at any way on the Arri 16 BL or because of the specific bayonet mount I am only able the use the manufacture required lenses with the Arri bayonet mount? Had a look on some vintage Zeiss Sonar Pentaflex 16mm lenses and some vintage Kodak looks like it might fit..? or am I wrong. What I don't want is to destroy a delicate working Arri 16 BL. The picture is taken of the actual Arri and the attachment ring. Can this be replaced with any other adapter ring maybe? If anyone out there is an expert...please advise. Thank you Levi
  22. Let me start by saying I just got this Arriflex SR1 about a month ago. I'm a newb. I just got my first lens for it this week. I bought this Schneider Kreuznach Xenon 1:1,9 / 16 Arriflex lens and I can't get it to focus. The SR1 I have has a bayonet mount. The lens I bought is a standard mount. But I can see where there is a little slot in the back of the lens that the tab inside the lens mount slides into. So I got it on and just can't seem to get the thing to focus. I tried focusing from wide open to 5.6. It is better the more I stop down but still not really in focus. I move the little wings to adjust the distance and still no luck. What am I doing wrong? I have 6 bolex lenses for my bolexes and using those are a piece of cake and I've shot (and developed) 10 rolls of film with them so far. The arriflex lens doesn't seem like rocket science but maybe I'm missing something or need to send the lens back. Or maybe I'm not focusing the SR1 correctly. Should I focus the viewfinder without the lens first? Thanks.
  23. I have a few Schneider Arri standard mount lenses, but I am a little unsure of their history/differences: Of two 16mm lenses, one is labeled only Xenon f1.9/16mm; the other is f2/16mm and is listed as Arriflex-Cinegon. Of two f2/50mm lenses, one says "Made in Germany" and the other "West-Germany," both which also differ with labels of "Arriflex-Cine-Xenon" and "Cine-Xenon" respectively. Can anyone help point out some of the differences? Thanks much, Chris
  24. Hello everybody, Came here today to ask for advice on building a set of Schneider Primes (arri st or c mount) for use with my black magic pocket camera. I have these both Arri ST mount primes: Schneider-Kreuznach Arriflex-Cinegon 16mm f1.4 Schneider Cinegon 10mm f1.8 So I was thinking on a 25mm and a 50mm to complete the set. Maybe a 75mm or up as well. And I need to know which ones should I get (the names, please) to have a set where they could be interchangeable, meaning I could keep a balance in the quality/looks. So I can chase around to buy them. Thank you all in advance.
  25. Hey All, I am selling a 138mm True-Pola from Schneider. We used it once. No scratches. Perfect Condition. Retails for $269.00 at Abel. I am selling for $150 or best offer. Cash. Looking to sell quickly in the Los Angeles area. Thanks, Jessica Lopez Steadicam Operator 323-217-5910 Ladyops.com
