  1. Well, I just finished putting together my first menace arm. I joined two 8 foot pieces of speedrail with fixtures from Barn Door Lighting. Here's a shot: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/59f8be3032601e5caccf02ac/59f8be85c830252d97f3a9c4/5a8b4c5271c10b58453f10ef/1519078488478/menace+arm+1.jpg?format=1500w[/img] It seemed to go well except for one thing. I had a hard time balancing the rig because no matter how hard I cranked down on the lollipop in the middle, the boom would move slowly up or down on it's own. I even followed the right-hand rule. Here's a picture of the ear inserted into the lollipop: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/59f8be3032601e5caccf02ac/59f8be85c830252d97f3a9c4/5a8b4c3d08522933c2550d2f/1519078467119/menace+arm+2.jpg?format=2500w[/img] Am I doing this right?
  2. Hello all, I'm looking to start putting my new combo stands to good use, and am interested in building some standard goal posts, and for constructing my first menace arms. However, I live in a small place (Eugene, OR), and am having a hard time laying my hands on some speedrail (or more specifically, 1.25", 6061 T6 extruded aluminum pipe). I hear this is the lightest/strongest/cheapest way to go. I'm sure if I was down in L.A. I could get some pretty cheap. The online options all seem pretty expensive. For those of you in smaller markets, how have you gotten your hands on the pipe?
  3. Hey guys, Looking to gain some insight on a rigging setup for an upcoming shoot. I have a project soon where we're going to be filming some skateboarders, probably from a pickup truck. My goal is to able to both lead them and track behind them, without having to put the truck in reverse. Trying to achieve smooth motion and would love to get low for some of the shots. I was chatting with a DP (Steve Annis) about the rig they utilized for this video: Here is the info I got from him: -all filmed out the back of a pick up truck with vibration isolator and tango head -for tracking shots: small wooden low platform on the front supported by scaff bars with Boss plate fitting He wasn't able to provide any set photos of the second rig. Does anyone have any pics of something similar? Haven't had any luck online. Just trying to wrap my head around it. Going to also reach out to a couple key grip's I've worked with. Also any idea of what this could be done for budget-wise would be helpful. Budget is low but most of it will go towards a good, safe rig to execute some of these shots. Thank you! -Ben Joyner Some frame grabs from the video:
  4. Hey guys, So I'm trying to find one of these to rent for a shoot in Savannah, GA: http://modernstudio.com/pipe-spinning-gag-58/ I've also attached a couple set photos of something similar in use during one of Alex Buono's workshops. The local rental house doesn't have it and the guys at modern studio haven't gotten back to me yet. Does anyone know of a rental house in the southeast or anywhere in the US that would ship it for me? Also -- I'm pretty sure all of those units are running to a central battery via D-tap. Am I right about that? If so I would also need a d-tap splitter to power all of the units right? Thanks so much! -Ben J
  5. Hi i had couple of hundreds of these neat clamps made, and i dont need all of them, so if someone is interested in buying some just let me know these are really nice clamps to have, a great accessory when rigging camera, they are not as strong as griphead but is a great addition when gripheads are to big, they are made of aluminium with strong bolts, the bolts are in metric, the bolt in the pictures is swapped to a black much harder bolt. for me when im rigging the camera on to different wehicles this is a great tool. i have my own kit of 5/8 speedrail and use these together with the clamps. Price: i was thinking about 16€ each but when mying more then 10 the price is lower
